9- Honesty

1691 Words
Sam’s POV “Hi, baby sister!” I heard. “Hi, old brother!” I replied back. “It’s impossible to be old at 25!” Chuckled my brother. “You are old compared to your seven-years-younger sister.” I started laughing. This was our usual banter as we laughed at our age difference. My brother always took care of me, and I always loved and appreciated everything he did and continued to do for my benefit. However, a younger sister has the task of being silly, a little pampered, and making her brother laugh. Or at least, in my mind, that’s how things work. “So, how was last night’s outing?” Hard questions first, I see. “Sam, are you sitting down? There are some things I need to talk to you about. Before you freak out, I’m safe and sound. What I need to say are things that are personal, and I hoped to have more time to figure things out before I talked to you about them. But there have been some developments and we have always talked honestly, so you should know about it now.” I said in a serious voice. “Okay, then. I’m all ears and will not stop you until you finish.” My big brother has always been my rock and listened to all my doubts and concerns. “Thank you! Okay, from the beginning. For the last couple of months, finishing high school and turning 18 have brought questions. Mostly about what I want in life, in my future, but also about what I would want in a possible life partner. I’ve always been a romantic at heart and that’s why I was never interested in silly crushes or dating.” “However, what impacted me the most, was realizing that when I thought of a partner, I was willing to consider either men or women. Oh, Sam, I was ready to start crying about it, thinking about maybe being gay. Lily stepped in, as usual. She told me that love is love, no matter who it comes from, and that I shouldn’t care either as long as I was happy.” “I did notice that men weren’t out of the equation, which now made me bisexual by society’s norm. Again, talking to Lily, she let me see that that was okay too. I now had more than double the number of choices, hahaha. With that, we came up with the idea of going out, so I gave you half of the truth when I said that Lily wanted me to experience one night out dancing. She also wanted me to check out some of the boys and girls and try to figure out if I was bisexual or not, then go from there.” *Sigh* “Speed up to last night, I got ready and was on my way to the club when Lily called me saying her cat had gotten sick and she couldn’t meet me there. I swear, I was about to come back home; but after wearing that beautiful dress you sent me, and doing my hair, I, at least, owed it to myself to be there for five minutes. So, I arrived at the club and walked around for a bit, ordered a water, and started looking into the people dancing.” “And then…” I stopped, I had to catch my breath. “I’m listening, you can keep going.” Said Sam. “Okay. Then, I saw them. In the middle of the dance floor there was this beautiful couple. Both tall, fair skin, straight jet-black hair, light-grey eyes. They even had matching outfits. It was all screaming twins, or at least brother and sister, but I didn’t want to assume and left them at family.” “When he twirled her out, her hand brushed the side of my arm and I swear I felt a static shock run through me. That alerted me so much, that I immediately started fast-walking towards my car.” “When I was almost reaching my car, clumsy little me tripped, twisted her ankle, and fell onto the concrete. Suddenly, right in front of me appeared the dancing couple. They looked even better from up-close. They introduced themselves as Alan and Aliane, and helped me get up. They are indeed twins, and had been out with another couple of siblings that are their childhood friends.” “I was polite, I was raised well, but started to say my goodbyes. When I tried to take a step, my ankle gave up on me and I was about to fall, but the twins held me in mid-air. They almost carried me to the trunk of their SUV to check out my ankle. Aliane held my hand, while Alan removed my shoe and gave me a little massage to avoid any swelling. He must have some professional training, because my ankle didn’t hurt anymore. Then one of their friends asked if I wanted water and said there was a cooler behind me and that I could just take one. I did, now realizing that it could have been drugged and I shouldn’t have done that, but they each took one as well and I actually felt safe around the twins.” “They both treated me like I was a dream come true, they were nice, took care of me, and I felt important. I might even dare to say they were flirting with me, both of them. They asked for my number and asked me to let them know when I got home, which I did. They helped me to my car and I came home with a foggy mind and a shivering body from going through so many emotions.” “I dreamed of them last night, and after I thought about it all day, I realized that I am truly bisexual, or at least when it comes to them.” “Earlier today, I was getting out of the shower and my phone started ringing. I ran to my phone, thinking that it could be you, but it was too early, so I got worried. But it was them; they actually called. And you know how I’m not a fan of texting and prefer calls, so that’s another point for them.” “The call was enlightening, to say the least. They both opened up and explained that they’re both interested in me, and wouldn’t mind sharing me with each other. I was truly shocked at that, but at the same time very excited. I even managed to flirt back a little.” “After it was all said, we agreed to meet up tomorrow at the park by the lake.” “Phew, that is all, my long story is over.” I said in a low voice, knowing he would now say something. “Wow, baby sister, that is definitely a lot of information you just placed on me. Okay, I’ll give you my two-cents on it.” Responded Samuel and continued. “First, if you have been questioning anything in your life, including your sexuality, I’m glad that you have Lily and she always steers you in the right direction. But you have to know by now that I’m all ears, and that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that you can’t tell me.” “If you are gay, bisexual, asexual, into crazy kinks, whatever it is, I will never ever judge you. I’ll hear you out and give you my most educated response. But I totally understand that talking to a fellow 18-year-old that is your best friend sounds less threatening than explaining all that to your older brother.” “Second, going to a club is not always about sexuality, it's about s*x, which you’re not ready for, yet. Sometimes it is about dancing and fun, but that’s the minority. You should go to parks, cafes, social events, and things like that. But if you’re only thinking about checking out girls and boys, the club will do as well.” “Third, I’m actually thankful that the twins helped you and took care of you. Looks like there are some good people left in the world. It's a bit odd that they want to share a potential love interest, but to each their own, and it sounds like that interest is very interested as well.” “Fourth, sorry to burst your bubble, but being attracted to both of them doesn’t exactly make you bisexual. Many people are attracted to charismatic figures of power, like famous actors and actresses, world leaders, historical figures, etc. Sometimes, that attraction is to someone of the same s*x, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Maybe it is the case that this girl, Aliane, is someone that you feel attracted to, but it wouldn’t be the case with another woman.” “And last, but not least, if you want to date them, see what you like about each of them, get to know them, that’s totally up to you. I’m very happy that you’re honest with me, but you don’t need my permission. I’ll always be in your corner, no matter what. I love you, Sammie!” When he finished talking, I was so emotionally charged that tears had been silently going down my cheeks. “I love you too, big brother! You have no idea how much light and love you have filled me with. I will give them a chance. Something is there and I want to find out what it is. I’m drawn to them. Knowing that you are aware of everything just makes me light-shouldered and ready to see how things go from here.” I told him, drying my tears and smiling. “Okay baby sister, it’s late already, you need your beauty sleep for that date tomorrow. Always remember that you have me, and I want to hear all about the date. Goodnight!” What a tease. “Goodnight, Sam!” I disconnected the call and got ready for bed. I was looking forward to that date.
