10- Date, Part 1

Alan’s POV Aliane and I were over the Moon with happiness! Our beautiful mate was giving us a chance to get to meet each other, learn about our lives, see if a relationship could work. The Moon Goddess made her our mate for a reason, so we love her already. Now we just need her to love us as much as we love her. Earlier this morning she texted us the address of the park by the lake and said to meet her at 3:00 PM. It was now 2:00 PM and I was ready to head out. I was wearing light-grey shorts, a white crew-neck T-shirt covered by a pastel-blue, long-sleeved shirt, low white sneakers, and dark brown sunglasses. My twin was wearing blue ripped denim shorts, a grey V-neck T-shirt that was tucked in the front, some large black sunglasses, and tan gladiator sandals. I saw Ray carrying a large picnic basket into the back of the SUV. We had agreed to surprise Sam with some snacks and refreshments and do a mini-picnic. “Alphas, are you sure that you don’t want us to accompany you?” Asked Ray after making sure the basket and all its contents were secured in the trunk. “Yes, Alphas, who’s going to ask all the important questions if I’m not there?” Came from Dany, who had just joined us. “Oh, Goddess, please help us! How many times must we say that was the shock of finding our mate? We’ll be fine.” Chuckled Aliane at our Betas. “Plus, it needs to truly be just us. Even if you give us space, you can still hear us from afar. Our beautiful mate deserves privacy and we want her all to ourselves.” I grinned back to them, after emphasizing at all to ourselves. “I understand, Alpha, we’re just doing our duty as your Betas and best friends.” Chirped my short Beta. “Who said you’re our best friends? We’re twins, we’re each other’s best friends.” Mocked my sister and stuck her tongue out to Dany. “Meanie!” Said Dany with a fake pout while we got inside the car. “Settle down, you two. Thank you for worrying, but we’ll be fine. We’ll let you know when we’re heading back.” I said after rolling down the driver’s window and slowly starting to move. We didn’t want to be late. “Ready for our date, baby brother?” Asked me Aliane. Her voice was full of glee and I knew she was as excited as I was. “Absolutely! Can’t wait to see her.” I replied. After the standard 45 minutes’ drive, we reached the park with the man-made lake. It had a manicured open-lawn area with some scattered large oak trees that provided plenty of shadowed areas. There are some gazebos with picnic tables towards the back. It has a fenced playground for the little ones, and an open playground with more climbing activities for the older children. All-in-all, it certainly is a great park. I’m glad our mate suggested this place for our first date. I picked up the basket from the trunk and Ali chose a stop under one of the trees, the nearest one to the water. We both started to spread out the typical red and white gingham picnic blanket. Just as we were finishing, we both scented our mate. Her delicious aroma made us look in the direction she was coming from. Sam just caught my breath. She had on a simple white fit and flare combination Midi Cami dress that reached the middle of her shins, a tan braided belt, a blue denim jacket, and brown leather sandals. She looked both relaxed and casual. Our mate found our eyes, and her face lit up with a smile to match ours. She started to speed walk toward us and, being that my twin was closer, she gave Ali a hug. Aliane whispered “hello, sunshine” with a low, breathy voice directly into Sam’s ear and I saw how it gave her goosebumps. “Hi, Princess. Don’t I get a hug too?” I told her when I realized my sister wouldn’t let go of our mate out of her own volition. “Oh, hi, to both of you.” Sam said while walking towards me so that I could get a hug too. I took advantage and smelled her hair deeply. “Thank you for meeting me here. I was not expecting a full picnic, but it seems like you guys came extra prepared. Thank you!” Expressed our mate while eyeing the blanket and the large basket. “No need to thank us, we wanted to surprise you. Come, let’s sit down and have some refreshments.” Ali motioned for all three of us to sit down and started rummaging in the basket. She took out a bottle full of cold, home-made lemonade and some plastic cups to pour some to each of us. Once we each had a sip of the refreshing lemonade, I took out some sealed bags with fruits like grapes, mixed berries, kiwi, pineapple, and watermelon. I also pulled out the trail mix, pretzels, baked chips, and cookies. By the looks coming from Sam, it was a lot of food. “I know, we brought a lot of food. We just don’t know what you like, so we ended up trying to cover all the basics. Plus, we do eat a ton.” I grinned at her. “I would never have guessed that. You both look like athletic models.” Sam was eyeing us both as we started opening all the bags and eating from each. “Well, looks can be deceiving. We do eat plenty. But we also exercise, so it’s balanced.” Said my sister while offering some of the snacks to Sam. “Uh, that makes sense. Well, I’m glad, because I consider myself a foodie and my best friend says that she envies my fast metabolism.” Smiled Sam while grabbing some fruits and chips. “What’s your full name, Princess?” I asked after taking another sip of the lemonade. “Are we jumping straight into the questions?” Probed our mate with a half-smile. “Yes and no. We want to get to know you, and understand that you’ll share whatever you feel comfortable with, but there are some things that we must know, like your name and age. Don’t you think, Sunshine?” Replied Aliane. “You’re right, I have probably the same or more questions than you do. I was just teasing a little.” Chuckled Sam. “You shouldn’t tease us too much, Princess. It might backfire.” I winked at Sam and her cheeks took a rosy hue. So beautiful. “My full name is Samantha Anne Miller, and I have been eighteen years old since last month. Your turn.” She looked at us expectantly. “Samantha is a beautiful name; it certainly fits you. Plus, the short version, Sam, also happens to be your initials. That’s smart.” I told her. “We’re Aliane and Alan McKenna. As much as it bothers my twin, I always say my name first because I was born a full eight minutes before he was, so I’m his older sister.” Ali told her and I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes at her. “Also, we’re twenty years old.” I added. “Who are the most important people in your life?” Asked our mate. “You!” Aliane and I said in unison. To which Samantha opened her eyes wide and flushed. “Also, our parents, and our best friends, the ones from the club. And yours?” My twin tried covering up. “My brother, of course, and my best friend. I’ve always been shy and never too close to anyone. But then you showed up.” She said while playing with the empty bags after having eaten the contents. “What is your ideal life?” Ali asked. “Ah, tough one. It would be to be married to a partner that loves me like no other, simple life, maybe be a housewife and do some volunteer work, children in the picture, maybe a farm. I know it’s not your typical dream life, but the cities and crowds are not my thing.” “It’s a lovely dream.” I told her while looking straight into her eyes. “Do you work or go to school?” Came from Ali. “I’m about to start college online. I didn’t want to go to a college full of partying teenagers, or live in a cramped dorm. What about you?” Sam asked. “A mix of both. Our dad is training us to take over his company, so we are working and training at the same time. We take several courses on finances, corporate structure, human resources, and lots of other boring stuff, plus physical training. We have to be the very best, according to our dad.” I told her with a little shrug. “Plenty of meetings, paperwork, negotiations, and things that no twenty-year-old should be subjected to. But we love our dad and the company that he has created, we’re all family there. So, if it takes all this effort, we’ll tiredly do it, hahaha.” Added my twin. “Yes, just by your explanation, I’m bored and tired.” Chuckled Samantha. “Princess, not to sound pushy, but I noticed that you didn’t mention your parents.” I said to her in a gentle voice. “That’s because we’re orphans. Our parents died when I was just some days old and my brother was seven. We could see some sadness in her face and wanted nothing more than to erase everything negative from her life and have her smile all the time.
