Three days. That’s how long Aria had spent worrying in silence, praying the man she had saved was going to make it. She hadn’t dared check back at the hospital. She had no name, no number, and no claim to be there. She had done what anyone would have done at the moment… and then disappeared.
Meanwhile, in the hospital, Caspian Vale slowly opened his eyes after being in a coma for three days . His family was crowded around him: his mother, his father, and his younger brother. Relief flooded the room, but his own thoughts were elsewhere.
“Where is she? Where’s the lady?” he asked, his voice hoarse.
His mother frowned. “Who? Caspian, what are you talking about?”
“The lady… the one who brought me here! The one who saved me!” His gaze darted around, fierce and desperate. “Where is she? Where is she? I need to find her!”
The nurse present told him that the lady that brought him to the hospital didn't leave any information behind.
After two weeks, Caspian had already recovered fully and resumed back to work. Back in his office at Valecrest Developments, Caspian refused to rest until he tried everything. He summoned his private investigator, Alfred. “Find her,” he ordered, his jaw tight. “No expense spared. I want her located.”
Days passed. Calls, searches… nothing. The investigator returned empty-handed. She had vanished completely without trace, leaving only a ghostly memory of those intense, brief moments he had seen her face.
Meanwhile, Aria was back in her cramped apartment, the city humming quietly outside her window. She slumped on the couch, laptop open, scrolling through endless job postings. She had applied to three companies already as an executive secretary, her desperation pushing her to do whatever it took to help her father.
“Lola, I swear I’m running out of options,” Aria muttered, rubbing her temples.
“I don’t know how much longer I can keep doing this,” she sighed. “Dad’s surgery… I need money, Lola. I just...I can’t fail him.”
Her best friend, sprawled on the floor tinkering with a small SFX gadget, glanced up. “You’re doing fine, Ari. You just have to be hopeful. “Any of the places you applied to as a secretary replied yet?”
She shook her head. “Nothing. I’ve lost hope. I keep thinking maybe it’s just not meant to happen.
Aria sighed. “I know… I just—” She trailed off, typing furiously, sending applications into the void.
Two weeks later, one fateful evening, as she was scrolling through emails, her laptop chimed. An email notification popped up. Her eyes widened as she read:
Valecrest Developments is pleased to invite you for an interview. Please report to our headquarters at 8 a.m. sharp.
Her heart skipped a beat. Finally, a chance. A real chance. This was the one chance she hadn’t dared hope for.
The next morning, she woke with a jolt. Seven a.m. Already? Panic set in. Her nerves rattled in her chest. Her interview was at 8 a.m.—a whole hour, but every second felt like a countdown. She threw on a simple white top and a skirt, slipping into heels that had long lost their shine, but she patched them as best as she could.
“Focus, Ari. Just focus,” she muttered to herself, grabbing her bag and rushing out the door.
She arrived at the towering glass building of Valecrest Developments by 7:59am, heart hammering in her chest. Inside the sleek lobby, a receptionist directed her to a waiting area. She took a seat, and her eyes immediately fell on the other candidates. A dozen young women, all perfectly groomed, heavy makeup, expensive heels, and sharply tailored suits. She felt suddenly underdressed, almost invisible.
Nine candidates had already gone in. Four emerged crying, defeated. Five stormed out in frustration, glaring, muttering to themselves about the ruthless CEO everyone warned them about.
he swallowed hard, her palms sweaty. She had already lost hope, thinking she wouldn’t make it past the first few seconds.
Then, the receptionist called her name"Miss Aria Thompson."
Heart hammering, she walked to the office door. The glass swung open and there he was.
The man she had saved two weeks ago.
Caspian Vale.
For a minute, the world froze. Her stomach lurched. Recognition flashed in his eyes, sharp and piercing. And for the first time, she realized just how high the stakes had suddenly become.
