The Start of Destiny

1005 Words
How long has it been…? How many days had passed since then…? How much longer… must I suffer…? Those were the only thoughts that ran through Rae’s mind, as she leaned against the wall she was chained to, hugging her legs close to her for warmth or lack thereof. Her rag of a cloth was the only thing that covered her body, though barely, and provided no warmth. Rae still remembered it like it was yesterday. The tragedy that came to their world, the chaos that led to the destruction of mankind, the fate… that had fallen onto her. The sky had turned red that day. The earth trembled as though a minor earthquake was occurring. The ground cracked open, and many demons were spewing out of them, taking whatever humans they found, killing any who dared resist. Not even an army was enough to stop these monsters. Eventually enough, demons had bested humans, and ruled over Earth. The many remaining humans went into hiding as fast as they possibly could, but were easily snuffed out by their suppressors, both figuratively and literally. As if it wasn’t bad enough, it was not just the demons the humans were worried about. There were some who had sunk so low and betrayed their own kin, all to be ensured better lives in the new world. Rae was one of the people who was betrayed by her own kind. No… Not just her own kind; her own husband. He who promised to protect her when the happening had begun, only to instead sell her to the demons and was ensured a better life without her. If she was sold to the demons so he could be safe, she would be fine with it. However… it wasn’t just her whom he had given away. He knew it, as well, and even then, he had still done it. He sold their unborn baby to the demons as well. When a human is within a demon’s clutches, there were two fates that awaited them: s*****y or food. The second choice is either to be eaten or breed more humans for the demons to consume. Rae was one of those unfortunate enough to be the latter. Alive she may be, time and time again, she was forced to carry new offspring, only to then watch in despair, as the demons took the newly birthed away. To this very day, she still recalls when her first child was born. At first, when she saw the demons come in to assist her in safely giving birth to it, she naively thought that maybe, just maybe, the demons would spare her baby, and perhaps give it a peaceful life. She even thought maybe they would allow her to name her child. But by the time she recovered after giving birth, she was harshly reminded how low humans were in the demons’ eyes, when she overheard... how delicious the baby was. Tears formed in Rae’s eyes as she faintly heard cries from other women stuck in this dungeon-like place outside her ‘room’. Cries for the demons to spare their one child or to not impregnate them. ‘Do they really not see how hopeless it is?’ she wondered for the umpteenth time since she was sold to these monsters. Rae raised her head to the wall across from her. On the wall, there were tallies depicted in boxes, each with thirty tallies in them. All… but one. ‘Ten more days… and they’ll make me bare another…’ With each time the females gave birth to a child, they were allowed one month to fully recover before being forced to bare a new one. One month, to not just recover, but also to grieve over their loss, and mentally prepare themselves for the next, not that any woman was mentally strong enough to even accept their new roles within these walls. Rae rested her head against her knees, wanting only to simply sleep through the faint cries, wishing this to be all but an everlasting nightmare. It would seem fate had other plans for her, as she heard heavy footsteps approaching her door. Said door opened, but she didn’t bother raising her head to even see who walked in. Well, not that she wanted to know. After all, the only ones who would come in were demons. “This is the girl?” came a voice, and one unfamiliar to her. “Yes, master,” replied another voice, in which she did recognize. Heavy footsteps approached, and stopped right by her. “Pick up your head,” she heard. Confused as she was by the command, Rae was in no state to argue, as she lifted her head a bit, taking notice of the demon speaking to her. He was certainly not a demon she had seen roaming around the factory before. He whose head was much like that of a goat's with brown fur. Judging by how nice his clothes were, Rae could only deduce that this demon was someone important. Specifically, that of a high-class customer. The type this place would sometimes get. Sadly, it was not as though a single female in this factory could ever speak up against them, nor would their voices be heard in this state. After some time of silence, the customer made the first move, as he got up and turned to his companion. He who seemed somewhat human-like with extremely pale skin and had razor-sharp teeth. "Tell that owner I'm buying this one in full.," he ordered the messenger, who saluted to him before leaving. Rae only remained silent and confused about the predicament. What was happening? Did this demon say something about 'buying' her? As in... she was going to leave the factory? "A pleasure to meet you, girl," he then greeted her with a bow, much to her confusion. A confusion that rose from the next set of words that came out of his mouth. "From this moment forward, you are now mine."
