Chapter 2

Ring Ring. A sudden sound of the phone ringing envelops the entire room as it maintains on ringing over and over again. And from the past 20 minutes, this was the only thing taking place. The phone would ring and ring as no one would pick it up. The caller would cut the call and then call up one more time, waiting for someone to pick up the call and answer. It was almost like this was all in a big loop. Clearly, the person on the other side was not okay with this as the individual did this on repetition without fail. "Hello." "I have been trying to call you for the past hour Kade." A female voice explodes on. The lady on the other side of the call was certainly not at all very happy about this. But this only made kade smirk as he clearly understood whose call he had just attended. But he didn't want to have a conversation with her and clearly not right now. "What do you want Doreen?. What did you want to talk about?." Kade asked her making sure she understood that she was taking up his precious time and also wanted her to know he clearly did not have enough time to talk to her and listen to her nonsense. Kade could clearly see how his simple words have clearly affected her because he could hear her having a hard time coming up with an answer. But she did say a few words here and there feeling unsure what to say next. This only made him lose his patience more and more with each upholding second. "I...I just wanted to know if you, if you still want to have lunch with me and father?. He said he will be back from Tokyo today. So...I was hoping we could..." She kept on saying what she wished to say. While Kade simply just seated his phone on the table right in front of him and put it on speaker. He could hear her and also knew none of that was truly going to happen so he just went on to his regular things. Kade simply then walked into his walk-in closet and drew a black towel off of the shelf and instantly started wiping his wet hair. He had just got out of the shower and was still very much wet and the only thing he was covered with was another towel covering up the lower part of his body while the rest was very much just out there. If the other s*x would have just walked in on him while he was like this. It would have really affected the person in a huge way. He was truly the most breathtaking site and he knew what his presence could do for seemingly anyone in front of him. His body was something he really was very proud of and right about now it just looked even more desirable. There was however some water on his body because he still hasn't wiped his body down. His biceps would flex every time he would move his hands up to wipe his still-wet hair. After a while, he hears Doreen almost crying out at him and this was not going to go generously with him. "Kade? Kade are you even listening to me?." Doreen asked him because at this point she had really lost it and still not getting a favorable reaction out of him really did affect her more than she really imagined. "Kade?." She called out for him one more time. "You said you would take me out of a date. What happened to all that?." She said accusing him of something he would never do, particularly will Doreen. But what she said for a second triggered him instantly. Kade stopped doing what he was doing and pulled the towel off of his hair and looked directly at the mirror right in front of him. He stared at his reflection for a while trying to comprehend what she was talking about. Kade looked honestly furious at this very moment because he was not pleased with what she had just confessed to him. Her accusations were as dumb as she was but still, he wasn't very pleased with her at this very moment. Without wasting a single second Kade tossed the towel away and walked towards the table where he had seated the phone and immediately grabs it up. "Doreen I am going to say this one time and only one time. We both can never date and nothing is ever going to happen between us. So just stop it." He said trying to keep his peace but also was making sure she got what he was trying to explain to her. Because Kade hates to recite something when he has clearly stated everything to the other person. "Kade, I...I." She attempted to say something to him but was so wholly shocked by his comment. The worst part was she precisely knew he would talk to her like that and also knew he didn't feel the same way about her as she felt about him. He didn't have any feelings for her and this really hurt and devastate her every single day. Even though she always gets rejected by him, Doreen never really abandons her feelings for him. Just like Kade had his pride, Doreen too had her own pride. She always got whatever she wanted all her life and now she yearned for Kade. She only wanted Kade but for him, she didn't really mean anything and that is how it was going to be for him, eternally for the rest of his life. "I don't have trouble meeting up with you and if we meet it will just be for business reasons only and that will be all. I don't have a problem meeting your father either only because he is a good man and a great friend to my father." Kade said and this immediately left her silent. She really didn't have largely to say to this but preferred to give it a try one more time. "Kade. All I was saying was that we both have worked together for many years and we are also friends...." "We are not friends Doreen, both of us are just colleagues and that will be the only relationship we both will have and I want to you stop imagining things about us." He said and immediately without thinking about it Kade cuts the call on her and pulls it away from his ear. Made slowly closes his eyes for a slight second. He then shortly opened them and again walked back into his closet tossing his phone on the bed. Because he knew that now he wouldn't be getting any more calls from anyone and decided to go get ready for the day. .......................................................................................................... "Good morning Mr. Sullivan." His drivers said the minute Kade walked out of his house and towards the car. His black Audi was already parked right in front of the house ready to leave. "Good morning Reece," Kade said while Reece opens the door for him, and without wasting a second Kade gets inside the car. Reece too gets inside the car and starts the car, driving it away from his house to Sullivan House. "Your father has been attempting to reach you, sir, Your secretary said he called you in the officer too," Reece said as he carried on driving through slow the traffic and also glancing at Kade through the mirror, making eye contact with him. Kade, on the other hand, loosens up back in his seat simply looking out the window at the cars passing by them. He didn't say much about this because he didn't really want to think about it quite a lot. He knew why exactly his father was trying to reach him and he understood what he would want to talk to him about. Of course, he was going to speak to his dad this time because this specific issue has to be solved and taken care of just like all the other issues. And right at that moment, Kade's phone starts ringing, he immediately pulled his phone out of his jacket, and without glancing at who was calling him Kade simply just picked up the call. "Yes, father," Kade said pushing his hair back "Finally my son chooses to pick up my call." His father said sarcastically which only made Kade chuckle at what his father had to say to him. "I'm sorry father." He said still holding a huge smile on his face. "I have been busy." He stated back to him trying to make amends with his father. "Well, that is the sole reason why our company is making so much money." He said back to him trying to have a fun conversation with his kid. Robert Sullivan was always very proud of his boy and would forever be. Kade truly was their priceless possessions and he meant a lot to both his wife and him. "Kade, did you call your mother? she misses you you know?." He confessed to his wife because it was all true. "I will call her today father don't worry about it." "Of course son." "How is your health now?. Are you exercising?." Kade asked him and his father on the other side of the call smiled at his concern. "Yes, your mom takes good care of me and also you know her." "She still screaming at you?." He inquired his father smirking at his own question which also made Reece smile. Everyone knew how Kade's mother was. Sweet, nice, amazing, and extremely loud when she is in a very bad mood. And these were just some of her personality traits. "Yes, yes she did. Now I'm not even allowed to have coffee all thanks to the doctor." Kade's father told him making both of them laugh. Unexpectedly there was a small silence around them both. The same silence they all have been feeling for a couple of days. Robert knew why this was so and so did Kade, but they did not want to address this right now. "We are good, right Kade?." He asked his son and Kade immediately was taken aback by this question and was hoping they didn't have to talk about it. But now it feels like they both did have to. "Dad.." "Your mother wanted to tell you this Kade but I was the one...." "Father I don't care, nothings going to change for us. Just trust me." Kade said to his father striving to let him know it was all okay. His mom and he didn't have to worry about anything. Nothing was going to change for any of them, not now and not ever. "I understand father and I will talk to her about this too." He proceeded and waited for his dad to say something back to him. Kade didn't rush him. He just waited patiently knowing this would have affected him. "Okay, I trust you." His father said and this time he did sound more optimistic than he did before and Kade now felt much better knowing they didn't have to talk about it anymore. "Okay now, can we both get back to why you called me?." Kade asked him even though he already knew why he was calling him up. "Well, I wanted to talk to you about the contract with Robbins. Benjamin has already signed it and all you have to do is sign it and send it back to the lawyer. Everything will go smoothly from there."His father said leaving nothing behind. "Are you still sure about this?." He asked him looking out the window waiting for him to reply. "Are you okay with this?." Robert asked his son for a quick reply. "I don't really have a problem with this. It's only going to do reasonable for both companies. It's a great bargain." Kade replied to his father. Being very straightforward with all of it. "So you are fine with this?." He asked him surprised. "I don't really have much of a choice now do I." He asked his father, smirking through the phone. "It will all be fine. As long as we don't have to work right next to the Robbins it's all good." Kade said looking out the window again as his car stopped for traffic and his father, on the other hand, stopped talking immediately. There was a deep silence around him and this concerned Kade unexpectedly. "Is everything okay?." "Well, now we have a small crisis here." "What do you mean?." He asked him as his father was really sounding very suspicious at this very moment. "Benjamin's daughter will be working with you until the contract ends," Robert said all of this so damn fast that it was really hard for him to comprehend at this very minute. But ultimately, he understood his father but was not very much okay with any of this. He didn't want any ones to help with this and never will need any ones help. "Kade?." His father blurted for him when he got no answer whatsoever on the other hand slowly stroked his face with his hand and let a huge breath out. "What daughter ?." "Remember when your uncle was launching the winter collection 2 years ago. All the marketing was done by Benjamin's daughter." "Hmm, I recall that," Kade said thinking as he distinctly remembered the brilliant marketing done. He was really impressed by it too. But had no idea it was done with the help of someone else. "Lydia is really promising at this Kade. You both together will make an incredible team together." His father said laughing at his own comment but Kade, on the other hand, was not pleased with all of this and especially that lame joke his father made for him. "I don't need her. I have a great marketing team." Kade said and it almost felt like he was making a quick statement right there and then. "Well, that just won't work son. Robbins has already sent 20% of his staff to the office and they have already begun to work. He also said that Lydia will be joining the team soon too." "This is unbelievable," Kade said back but this time his voice sounded like a whisper. Like Kade was talking to himself. "Maybe she will join the company next week I'm not entirely sure about this," Robert said and paused for his son to say something about all of this. But Kade didn't really say anything about it for some time and simply just thought about all of this for a small second. "What did you say her name was again?." He asked his father. "Lydia." H replied back to him. "Lydia," Kade said back repeating her name. "Fine, I will remind my secretary to give her an office." kade said but his father immediately puts a stop to him. "Yes, that's a good idea but make sure that her office is next to yours. " "Why, why would I do that?." He asked his father as he was truly really confused at his small request. "Lydia is now our responsibility Kade if something happens to her things could go downhill from there. We don't want to create unnecessary trouble. You have to be around. Until the contract ends she is our responsibility. I mean your responsibility. I can't have that Benjamin criticizing me about anything." Robert said sounding really cranky at the moment. "She is not a child." "She is your responsibility and I am disconnecting the call. Call your mother and say hi to her. See you next month." His father told him all of this in one breath and immediately cut the call on Kade. While all Kade could do at this point was to look at his phone in complete disbelief. He then stocks his head and started to text his father. "Don't worry I will take care of it." Kade wrote and placed his phone back in his jacket again looking out the window. He knew this alliance was the best for the company and he had also heard about her and her achievements. She might be good but he needs to see her work first. He needs to see if she was the best of the best. But Kade just didn't want to acknowledge it. Both families have had their share of issues and he didn't want all those issues to grow and create a whole new thing. "When Lydia Robbinson comes to the office make sure she meets me first," Kade said to Reece and all he did was nod his head understanding. Kade knew he had to take responsibility for someone he didn't even know and now he himself had to make sure she knew what she was getting herself into. And this thought drew a huge smirk on his face. It was going to be great fun working with the Robbinson.
