The city was dead. I saw ruins everywhere. Broken buildings stuck up into the sky like broken bones. Shadows filled the cracks in the streets. Everything smelled old, like rust. I moved carefully. The air was too still. A warning feeling told me something was wrong. I wasn’t alone. The feeling went down my back like ice. I trusted my instincts. They were screaming. The city was supposed to be empty, but I felt a presence nearby. I felt a small shake in the ground. A footstep? My heart beat faster as I looked around. Nothing. But I knew better. A voice spoke, calm and teasing. "You don't know what you are, do you?" I didn't flinch, but my body got ready to fight. The voice echoed, making it hard to know where it came from.
