The room suddenly lit up around me. The walls flashed, and streams of golden light moved through the air. They were showing me pictures—no, memories—so real they felt like I was there. A battlefield appeared. The ground was burned, covered with dead bodies. Thick smoke floated into the sky. And right in the middle were them: The anomalies. They weren't the monsters the System had told everyone about. They weren't destroyers or a danger to people. They were just people. People who had special powers that the System didn't want. And because of those powers, they were hunted. A line of tall, mechanical figures stood in the distance. They were the System’s police—cold, mean, and without mercy.
