I didn’t sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the journal. To my daughter, Sienna. The words refused to leave me alone. By sunrise, I was sitting on the balcony outside our bedroom, wrapped in a blanket, watching the city wake up. The balcony door slid open. Lucien stepped outside carrying two mugs. “I guessed.” He handed one to me. I smiled faintly. “Hot chocolate?” “You still wrinkle your nose at coffee.” Despite everything… I laughed. He sat beside me. For a while, we watched the sunrise in silence. “You don’t have to come with me.” I said quietly. “To the lab.” “I’m coming.” “You have enough problems.” “So do you.” I looked at him. “This could change everything.” “I know.” “What if…” The question caught in my throat. “What if I’m not who I think I am?”
