JULIA’S POV
You are probably wondering how Julia, the supposedly dead princess of the New Moon Pack, became Lucinda, mate to Jameson Montgomery.
To start with, Julia had to die.
After my family was murdered, I was brought back to the Bloodhounds pack as a slave and then later brought to Lucinda’s house as a maid.
I served under her cruel family for ten years, biding my time while I formulated my revenge plan, and my opportunity came last week, when Lucinda was announced as Jamie’s mate.
She was elated, obviously, and I took advantage of that.
I lured her to the woods under the guise of a secret meeting with a fortune-teller.
Heads up, there was no fortune-teller.
And Lucinda is not dead… yet.
I just took her to a sorceress, who placed her in an enchanted sleep that only the sorceress herself could undo. With Lucinda out of the way, I was given a potion that made me appear to everyone else as her.
Now here I am, about to marry Lucinda’s dream man. I love the taste of vengeance already.
“Oh my dear girl, I am so proud of you,” Lucinda’s father, Beta Micheal, is saying as he walks me down the aisle.
Why is everyone in this family so damn emotional?
In front of me is my husband, staring at me like I walked out of his greatest dream.
I smile to myself happily. I really can’t wait to become his nightmare.
I look around the ceremony as we near the end of the aisle. My eyes stop searching when they find the person I am looking for, Alpha Reginald.
The man, the myth, the monster.
He gives me a small smile and I smile back softly.
He truly has no idea what was coming to him, I think to myself as I turn to Jamie.
My blood runs cold as they make eye contact with him.
His eyes are the electric color of blue, and they feel all knowing as I stare at him.
Lucinda and Jamie grew up as childhood friends, and she was his mate. What if he figures out that I wasn’t her and destroys my plan?
The priest’s voice cuts through my racing thoughts, “Do you, Lucinda, take Jameson to be your lawfully wedded mate?”
I inhale slowly, still watching Jamie, who hasn’t even blinked at me.
If he has figured anything out, now would be the time to say it.
The priest clears his throat, trying to break the awkward silence.
“I do,” I say, looking at Jamie.
Jamie’s eyes hold no warmth as he responds, “I do.”
Why does he seem so cold all of a sudden?
Didn’t he love Lucinda?
“I bind you both under the Luna Goddess as husband and wife,” the priest announces and applause erupts around us.
I give one of my practiced smiles as I turn towards them, waving happily like I am the happiest woman on earth, because, in a way, I am, Jameson just made the biggest mistake of his life.
As the ceremony ends, Alpha Reginald approaches us with a warm smile on his face and I can feel my body stiffen.
No matter how many times I see him, the feeling never changes. All I can see is blood and death around him. It makes my stomach recoil.
“My son,” he says, pulling Jameson for a hug. “You have made me proud today.”
Then he turns to me.
“Lucinda dearest,” he greets me warmly, and I can barely breathe. “You are officially welcome to the family.”
“You will make a fine Luna,” he says, and I stare up at him, holding my breath and hoping he cannot see through my panicked state.
After he leaves, my family members gather around us, fussing and babbling about how they would miss me and how happy they are for us.
Imagining how shocked they will be after seeing the havoc I will cause in this pack makes my fake smiles easier.
And then comes Jona, I knew him from my years serving in Lucinda’s house. He is their childhood friend, so I can imagine how happy he is for them now.
“Lucinda!!” He greets me before Jamie, pulling me into a tight hug before I can protest. “I was hoping you would leave Jamie at the altar,” he jokes.
“And why would she do that?” Jamie asks him, playing along.
“Obviously, because she is too good for you,” Jona says with a wide smile and I choke back a scoff.
Lucinda? Too good for anyone? Lucinda that would make a fuss if her meals weren’t served on time? The one that can barely change her sheets without assistance, Lucinda is not too good for anyone, in fact, she and Jamie deserved each other.
Suddenly, a pack leader pulls Jamie away, leaving Jona and I alone.
“So how do you really feel about the wedding?” he asks me, his cheerful face gone.
Was this some kind of test? How exactly did he expect me to feel?
“I am really happy Jona,” I say “I can’t wait for the future. Jamie and I are going to build together.”
“I see,” Jona replies, his eyes narrowing at me, leaving me uneasy.
Even if I don’t pass his test, it doesn’t matter, it is too late for them to stop my plans now.
I turn to Jamie as he returns, giving him a flirty look, “I want to leave.”
“Now?” He seems confused.
Clearly, he isn’t getting what I am hinting at so I take it up a notch.
“I just…want to go home already,” I insist, running a finger down to his waist.
“Okay,” he agrees a bit too coldly for my taste and I smile.
We excuse ourselves discreetly and get into the car, driving to the Bloodhounds' estate in silence. As we arrive, I am led upstairs to our bedroom while Jamie heads to the dining room.
When I am finally alone, I strip off my heavy wedding dress, unpin my hair from its suffocating curls and change into a more comfortable nightdress.
And then I reach down my thigh and unstrap the knife I had hidden.
As I run my fingers through the blade, there is a satisfied smile on my lips.
Tonight's the night that Jameson Montgomery meets his end in my hands.
I turn off the room lights and hide in the darkness, waiting patiently for my target.
