Chapter 2: The system awakens

Chapter 2: The System Awakens Jiho woke up slowly. Not like someone who had simply fallen asleep and returned to consciousness. It felt more like he had been pulled up from the bottom of a deep, endless sea—dragged through layers of darkness that resisted letting him go. His eyelids fluttered open. A ceiling met his gaze. White. Too white. Not hospital white, not clinic white, but something cleaner—like it had never been touched by time, dust, or human imperfection. The surface faintly reflected light even though there was no visible lamp above him. Jiho didn’t move immediately. His mind lagged behind his senses. “…Where…?” His voice came out rough, unfamiliar, like it hadn’t been used in a long time. He pushed himself upright. Silence. No pain. That was the first wrong thing. There should have been pain. There should have been impact memory, injury memory, something—anything that confirmed the last thing he remembered. But his body felt intact. Alive. Too alive. Jiho swung his legs off the surface he was lying on. It was a bed, but not like any he recognized—simple wood, dark polished frame, thin mattress. The room around him was small and unfamiliar. Stone walls. A narrow window letting in silver light. A closed wooden door reinforced with iron bands. Outside, the faint glow of moonlight washed over everything. Not city light. Not Earth. Jiho’s breathing slowed. “…I didn’t survive,” he whispered. And the moment he said it— DING. His entire body froze. A translucent screen flickered into existence in front of him, hovering in the air as if it belonged there more than he did. Jiho instinctively reached out— His hand passed through it. Cold realization settled in his chest. The screen stabilized. Words appeared. > [SYSTEM INITIALIZING...] [SOUL TRANSFER COMPLETE] [HOST CONFIRMED: JIHO] Jiho stared. “…System?” The screen responded immediately. > Welcome, Host Jiho. You have died in your original world. Your soul has been transferred into a new vessel in Asterion. Jiho’s throat tightened slightly. Not panic yet. Just disbelief trying to organize itself. “…So I really died,” he muttered. > Correct. Fatal accident confirmed. No survival probability. Jiho exhaled slowly. So the last thing he remembered—headlights, impact, silence—was real. Not a dream. Not fading consciousness. Just… the end. And now this. He leaned back slightly, staring at the floating screen. “…Then what is this place?” The system expanded. > World: Asterion. A high-tier evolution world governed by bloodlines, mana, and predatory hierarchy. Jiho frowned. “Bloodlines?” The system responded instantly. > Yes. Life in Asterion is determined by genetic classification and mana evolution paths. There are three dominant evolutionary types: The screen shifted. Three words appeared. > ALPHA OMEGA ENIGMA Jiho stared at them. “…I’ve heard of those before,” he muttered quietly. System stories. Fiction. Not reality. The screen continued. > ALPHA & ENIGMA CLASSIFICATION: • Capable of full beast transformation • Manifestation of internal mana beast core • Increased physical dominance and combat instinct • Extreme territorial and emotional aggression during transformation states Jiho’s eyes narrowed slightly. Beast transformation? The system did not pause. > ALPHA FORM: Partial beast hybridization (controlled). ENIGMA FORM: Full or advanced beast manifestation (unstable, high mana output). Jiho exhaled slowly. So they weren’t just “dominant roles.” They were… monsters in human skin. Or humans that could become monsters. The screen shifted again. > OMEGA CLASSIFICATION: • No beast transformation capability • High compatibility with mana stabilization fields • Unique biological pheromone resonance system • Ability to influence emotional and instinctual states of Alpha/Enigma forms Jiho blinked. “…Influence?” The system confirmed. > Correct. Omega pheromones function as calming resonance signals. They suppress aggression, stabilize beast transformation instability, and reduce mana overload in Alpha and Enigma individuals. Jiho leaned forward slightly. So Omegas didn’t fight. They… soothed. Balanced. Controlled the instability of the others. The system continued. > In combat situations, Omega resonance can prevent berserk states in Alpha/Enigma units. In rare cases, it can forcibly suppress transformation instability. Jiho stayed silent for a moment. Then asked quietly, “…And me?” The screen flickered. > Analyzing host classification... A pause. Longer than before. Then— > WARNING: Host classification unstable. Primary identity: Human (foreign soul origin). Current vessel compatibility: Omega-grade template. Jiho’s eyes narrowed slightly. “…Omega.” The system confirmed. > Yes. Host Jiho is currently inhabiting an Omega-type body. Silence filled the room. Outside the window, wind moved faintly through stone corridors. Jiho didn’t react immediately. Instead, he processed. Alpha and Enigma: power, transformation, destruction. Omega: stabilization, suppression, control. He exhaled slowly. “…So I’m not the one who becomes the monster,” he murmured. The system responded. > Correct. You are the stabilizer class. A new line appeared. > However: Current Omega body is untrained. Pheromone control is inactive. Jiho frowned. “…Inactive?” > Yes. Host has not yet awakened resonance abilities. Without training, Omega influence is ineffective against Alpha/Enigma transformation states. Jiho looked down at his hands. Still human. Still ordinary. But not ordinary in this world. Something dangerous was waiting to be unlocked. The system continued. > System Role Assigned: [SURVIVAL-CLASS OMEGA TRANSMIGRATOR] Jiho let out a small breath. Of course it had to be survival class. The screen expanded again. > Primary Objective: Survive 30 days until soul stabilization completes. Secondary Objective: Awaken Omega resonance abilities. Tertiary Objective: Unknown (restricted). Jiho tilted his head slightly. “…Unknown again.” > System authority insufficient to disclose. He clicked his tongue softly. So many locked answers. Too many unknowns. The system shifted again. > BEGINNER REWARD AVAILABLE Jiho paused. “…Already?” A selection appeared. > 1. Pheromone Control Awakening (Omega Core Activation) 2. Medical Knowledge Expansion (Asterion physiology + beast biology) 3. Partial Beast Resistance Trait (reduces Alpha/Enigma pressure influence) Jiho read all three options carefully. Then his gaze lingered on the first. Pheromone control. Omega ability. If Alpha and Enigma could turn into beasts… then control over them wasn’t just support. It was survival. “…Pheromone control,” he said. A pause. Then— > Choice accepted. Initiating Omega Core Awakening. Instantly, something shifted inside him. Not pain at first. Pressure. Deep, internal pressure like something was waking up behind his lungs, behind his heartbeat, inside his very instinct. Then warmth spread through his body. A strange awareness followed. He could feel the air differently. Scent layers that didn’t exist before. Invisible waves in the atmosphere. Emotional currents he couldn’t name but could now sense. The system continued. > Omega Core Activation: 10%... 35%... 60%... Jiho’s breathing slowed. His body reacted instinctively. Not fear. Adjustment. Survival learning. > 80%... 95%... A final pulse went through him—soft but overwhelming. Then— > OMEGA CORE ACTIVATION COMPLETE Silence returned. Jiho opened his eyes. The world had changed. Not visually. Sensory. He could feel something in the air now. Not physical pressure. Instinctual presence. Like invisible instincts of others existing beyond the walls. Some calm. Some sharp. Some… dangerous. Jiho slowly exhaled. “…So this is what an Omega feels like,” he muttered. The system confirmed. > Yes. You can now influence Alpha and Enigma instability states within a limited radius (untrained range). Outside the window, something moved in the distance. A deep sound echoed through the air. Not human. Not fully animal. Something between. Jiho turned slightly toward the sound. His expression remained calm. But his awareness sharpened. “…Alpha or Enigma,” he said quietly. The system responded. > Unknown classification approaching. Distance: 280 meters. Jiho stood up slowly. For the first time since waking up in this world— he wasn’t just confused. He was aware. And somewhere outside those walls… something powerful was coming closer.
