Chapter 8 New Nina

Camila kept on looking at the door nervously as she rehearsed how she was going to explain herself to Nina.
"Where is she? She usually doesn't come late to work" Camila muttered under her breath, biting her nails anxiously.
Nina stepped into the office dressed in a white silk sleeve and high-waisted black pants. Her glossy stiletto heels announced her presence as she walked confidently and majestically to her desk.
"Woah! Ms Nina, you look like a celebrity this morning. Are you celebrating something?" Simon, who was an omega like her, suddenly went still after seeing Nina walk in.
Nina's face flushed with shyness. She wasn't used to this kind of compliment "No I'm not celebrating anything"
"You look stunning. Your haircut is nice" Another employee named Philip who held a coffee in his hands and couldn't get his eyes off Nina uttered in admiration. Nina cut her once-long black hair into a bob.
"Thank you" Nina replied, her voice barely audible.
"You look so pretty Ms Nina," Jessica said.
"Thanks to you. I look this good" While Nina went shopping before the company anniversary celebration, she met Jessica in the shopping mall and Jessica helped her with the style of her hair and the right clothes to pick.
The whole office was silent as everyone's eyes were on Nina. The men couldn't take their eyes off her as some of them began getting jealous of the beta who had this beauty as a girlfriend while the girls began picking up their phones to check where they could get the exact glossy stiletto Nina wore.
Camila who couldn't believe it was Nina she was seeing decided to talk to Nina about the previous day but beta Jacob beat her to it.
"Everyone, get back to work now," Beta Jacob ordered, causing everyone to break their gaze from Nina and resume their various duties.
He walked closer to Nina who was yet to take her seat. "Babe, is this you? Are you my girlfriend? You look so different"
" I wanted to surprise you. How do I look?" Nina asked.
" You look amazing and pretty. I love that you've finally decided to get rid of your glasses. You look so pretty without your glasses on" Jacob was excited that his girlfriend finally decided to change her dressing style. Now, he had no reason to continuously compare her to other female workers in the office.
"I have contacts on," Nina said, her face lighting up in joy as the corners of her mouth curved upward.
"Wow," Jacob said, looking at her continuously as he took a step forward to hold her waist, but the loud noise from the corner of the office divided Jacob's attention.
Alpha Marvis, whose eyes were fixed on Nina, didn't see the table that contained files of papers as he crashed into it but he was quick to get his balance.
Alpha Marvis walked up to Nina and he stared at her in awe, taking in every detail. He knew she was beautiful but he didn't know she was this beautiful.
Jacob wasn't comfortable with the stare Alpha Marvis was giving Nina so he snaked his hand around Nina's waist to prove a point to Alpha Marvis.
Alpha Marvis who was suddenly jolted back to reality let out an awkward cough as he just walked back to his office.
"I'll see you later," Jacob said as he placed a kiss on Nina's cheek. Nina froze and couldn't move. This had never happened before. Jacob never kissed her on her cheek with so much affection before. Back then in her former life, she was always the one to initiate a kiss and would sometimes beg Jacob to kiss her back.
Nina just sat on her seat as she decided to start her duties. "Who wants coffee?" Philip asked, standing on his feet as he stretched his arms.
"Me" someone replied.
" Me too," another employee replied.
"Okay. Nina gets us coffee and makes it snappy" Philip demanded with an authorized tone. Nina smirked, amused at Philip's words. In her former life, Nina was the errand girl of that office and Camila was the cause of it.
Camila would just tell Nina to get coffee for her and soon, everyone in the office began to send Nina errands. Thinking about her stupidity back then, Nina felt like giving herself a knock. Back then, she was scared to speak back or stand her ground but now, she wasn't going to let anyone walk all over her.
Nina just pretended not to hear Philip as she put on her laptop. "Hey, omega where is my coffee?" Nina still didn't answer "Are you deaf?"
"Are your legs broken?" Nina said, standing on her feet to look at Philip who stood three desks behind her. Philip was still a contract worker and Nina was a senior in the company compared to him.
"What?"
"Are they broken that you can't walk and get your coffee yourself? Starting from now, I won't condone any disrespect from anyone here". Nina announced, maintaining her composure as she made eye contact with Philip.
Philip, who couldn't look at Nina's eyes anymore, avoided her gaze as he stood up in embarrassment and went to the kitchen himself.
Nina walked out of the office and went outside to take air as she finally released the breath she had been holding for so long. "You did it, Nina. You did it" She whispered calmly. Nina was proud that she was able to stand up for herself and not let Philip use her.
"Nina" Camila who followed Nina outside called out."I'm sorry about yesterday. I knew if I told you that it wasn't going to be only the two of us, you wouldn't have come to the restaurant. I'm also sorry about how Olivia and her girls behaved yesterday. I hope you didn't take it the wrong way?" Nina stared at Camila with a disappointed gaze.
If someone had told her in her former life that her best friend was behind the reason why she was so abhorred and bullied by people in the pack, she would have doubted.
"Olivia said you told her that I snatched Jacob from you. Did you say that to her?"
