Emi – POV
I have been following the GPS, but this can’t be right. I am currently in front of what looks like an upscale neighborhood that is gated and has the name Atlanta Hills scrolling above it. It has the right name, as I slowly pull up to the Guard Shack, I roll my window down to speak to the man and can smell him, yep he is a werewolf. I must be in the correct place.
“How can I help you miss?” The guard asks me.
“I am Emily Roth; I am here to meet with…” he put his hand up and stops me.
“I was informed of your arrival, although we weren’t expecting you for another half hour?” He says looking at me with a smirk.
“Ah, yes, I have kind of a lead foot. I like to drive fast.” I tell him with a shy grin.
“Me too, so I get it. The Alpha is expecting you. Just go straight down the main road, it dead ends into the Main Pack House.” He tells me pointing past the gate as it opens. “Oh, and Emily.”
I started to roll and stop and look at him, “yes?”
“I look forward to getting to know you and welcome home.” He says with a flirtatious smile.
“Oh, uh, yeah. Thank you.” I say as I wave and roll the window up as I drive in. I look in the rear-view mirror and watch as the gates close and he is still watching me down the road. Lovely here less than 2 minutes and already have wolves watching me. I have been around enough men and Alpha’s to know the look they give when they want to conquer someone or something. And that wolf had that look, but I am not here to look for a fling nor my mate. I am here for my freedom and to learn as much as I can.
I stop in front of the large mansion and get out. I am still in my black dress, I didn’t feel the need to change, it is comfortable, and it really wasn’t that long of a car ride. I did however need to slip my shoes back on. I put some flats on to drive in, so I pulled open the back door and reached for my Kate Spade large tote bag. It is my go-to bag, I love the color and it has space for my laptop and all the things I may need. I take my Jimmy Choo’s out and place them on the ground and change out my shoes and then grab my bag as the door to the Pack House opens.
“Emily!” Alpha Richards' strong voice can be heard from the door. I look up and smile. “You’re early, but I am not surprised you always were for everything.”
“Yes, and thank you again for allowing me to stay here.” I tell him as I walk to him and hold out my hand for him to shake.
“No, problem and I am excited and thankful you chose Wolfe Law. As for you staying here it is no trouble. We had an open house.” He says as he shakes my hand.
“Open house?” I ask him to question his choice of words.
“Why yes. You don’t think you’re staying here in the Pack House, do you?” He asks in a serious tone.
“I just thought I would get a room. I am only a single wolf and 20.” I said to him, clasping my hands together nervously.
“Oh, my dear, you are an Alpha’s daughter. More importantly, you are studying for the BAR, not to mention unmated around a bunch of single wolves. I don’t think your dad would forgive me if I put you there.” He tells me with a slight laugh at the end. “I know I wouldn’t want my daughter there.”
“So where will I be staying?” I asked him curiously.
“Get in your car and follow me. I have that black Land Rover at the end.” He tells me pointing to the SUV. I nod and get back in my car. We pull out of the parking lot to the Pack House and go down the street. It is a street lined with large homes. Some smaller ones in between, but all looking newly built and each as grand in their own right. He goes around the corner and turns into an inlet that has one larger house in the cove, with two smaller ones on either side. The one in the middle is by far the largest house I have seen yet. He parks in the driveway to the large house and points to the one on the left. I do as instructed and pull into the driveway of the one on the left. It is an elegant home that almost matches the larger one next to it. I get out of the car and a woman comes out of the house.
“Oh, I am sorry Alpha Richard told me to park here.” I say stopping at the front of my car. I look over at Alpha Richard and he gives a little laugh.
“No sweetie, I am Lemon Walters, his mate. You can call me Lemon.” She says in the sweetest southern drawl I have ever heard, and I too am from Georgia!
“Well then you can call me Emi.” I put my hand out as she grabs it and pulls me into a hug.
“Good Goddess you are just beautiful! And it’s your birthday! We were just inside finalizing the décor; I hope you like it. We went traditional. You seem the elegant type from your file, plus I can tell you have taste, you chose to come to Wolfe.” She says all this very animatedly and pulled me to the house. “We live just next door with our other son, Crew, you will meet him tonight at dinner. Our other son Braxton lives across the street in his own home. Watch out, on the weekends he is known for his pool parties, if not here then at the Pack House.”
As we walk in the house it is stunning, and I am just forced to stand there with my mouth hanging open. It is all white walls with accents of navy blue. It is like this woman lived in my head. I look at the table in the entry and it has a picture of my family and I. “How?” That is all I get out.
“Oh, sweetie, really? I can get my hands on anything I want.” She says slapping the air as I turn to Alpha Richard he just shrugs and laughs. “Listen sweetheart, we knew you would need some space of your own. You don’t have to keep it this way…”
“Why would I change it! I think you dug into my brain when you said you can get your hands on anything you want, I don’t doubt you! Are you part witch or something?” I say walking around the open living room that opens to the kitchen. It is an open floor plan, and everything is immaculate. There is a white couch facing a traditional-shaped fireplace with a large TV above it. It has 2 navy accent chairs on either side of the couches, giving the room an inviting feeling. The floors are wood with large area rugs in grays and blues. I just walk around, stunned.
I hear Lemon laugh and look at her. “Not a witch, my sweet girl, I just can tell by looking at you. You about functionality and tradition.” She says, crossing her arms proudly. She points to the hallway off to the side. “You have 3 bedrooms back that way. One the primary room with an ensuite bathroom and one we turned into a home office for you. Richard here already put some important books, and the IT guys came yesterday and set up some crap in there, don’t ask me, I just let Richard have that room. Well, except I put in the bookcase desk, chairs and coffee table. But there is a guest room for your family or friends to come visit as well.” She tells me as we make our way down the halls. All I can do is shake my head.
“You really did all this for me?” I say as we walk into the room that will be my bedroom and the wall behind the bed is painted navy with a white traditional headboard and, I kid you not, the same exact bedding I have in my car. I point to it and my jaw dropped! “I have that same one in my car!”
Lemon looks at Alpha Richard, “see I told ya! I know my girl!” she says as he hugs her from behind. “Really, Emi we want you to be comfortable and happy here! Think of us as your new extended family, right Richard?”
“That is right! And please call me, Richard, you’re an Alpha’s daughter and eventually a partner at the firm.” He tells me releasing his wife and puts his hands on my shoulders. “Now I need you to unlock your car because I have some men out there to help you bring in your things.” I just absentmindedly nod and reach into my bag pull out the keys and hand them to him. I put the bad on the bed as he walks out of the room. Lemon comes over and takes his place with her hands on my shoulder.
“Now, my peach, we are having dinner at 6:30pm at my house. We don’t dress this formal.” She says waving her hands at me. I take a look at her finally and see she is wearing light pink capri pants and a white sleeveless button-down shirt. I nod looking at her. “Please tell me you aren’t one of those girls that only have work clothes, but actually, if you did, I would just make you go shopping with me, but really, who am I kidding we will be going this Saturday anyways. We still have to get you Atlanta ready. Not saying Starlite is bad, just sayin.” She is going off again until she is interrupted.
“Mom! Let the poor girl breathe! Good Goddess!” And I look at the door and there stands her son. Braxton. I have seen him in tons of southern living magazines in the social sections. I think he hits all the crab boils there is around the south at this point. He stands at my doorway with both my suitcases. I just nod and pointed to the bed. He is in a nice suit himself, a deep blue with a white shirt and a stiped blue and white tie. His short dark hair styled to perfection as he smiles his green eyes almost sparkle. “Sorry, I was pulling in when dad came walking out of your house. You’re early!” He said setting her bags on the bed. “Happy birthday, I am Braxton.” He held his hand out to me. I took it and shook it.
“Emily.” I said politely.
“Really, nothing?” Lemon sounded sad. “Dang it!”
Laughing Braxton let go of my hand and turned to his mom, “Sorry to disappoint you mom.” He hugged her and then turned and tucked her into his side and looked at me. “I am sure you have been getting that since you got here.” He said with a smile.
“Sorry Lemon. I hope this doesn’t change things?” I ask, hoping she doesn’t change on me.
“No sweetheart. Who knows, you could always choose your mate later.” She says as she looks from me to Braxton. “But I am not going to push, no matter what, you are still my sweet girl and extended family. Although a mom can hope.” She says, waving her hands. “Now, you two dinner is at 6:30 sharp and knowing Emi won’t be late, so Braxton try to learn from her, will you?” She points at me as she walks out. I swear I heard her yell something about the Goddess not being on her side. I look over at Braxton and he just shakes his head.
