Katie’s P.O.V
A knocking at my window woke me from a deep slumber. As I turned over to the direction of my window, I groaned into my pillow for being woken up. Through my half-asleep eyes, I could see the silhouette of someone hanging onto the window ledge. This person kept on knocking and trying to lift the window up. I did the only rational thing I could think of.
I screamed.
The intruder immediately looked up to see my petrified face. There seemed to be some kind of recognition in their eyes as they looked at me. Before I could go up to my window or get my phone they jumped and ran away. Thoughts spiralled through my mind as I wondered who would try to break into my room let alone when I was sleeping.
The exhaustion of sleeping for a day had made me hungry so I quietly made my way downstairs to get something to eat. The clocks told me that it was in fact 3 in the morning which puzzled me more about this intruder. Could they also be the one sending me the messages or is there more than one person involved in tormenting me day in day out? I wish I knew the answers so I could live my life in peace. At a glance, I realised that there was nothing in the fridge, the freezer and there was only a single grapefruit sitting in the bowl. I wanted ice cream more than anything. The issue of ice cream was so large that I debated leaving the house to be able to get some but one look at the clothes I was wearing took me straight off that idea. The grapefruit was suddenly more appealing than it had ever been before in my 17 years living in this world.
After I had peeled the grapefruit and got back to my bedroom I sat down at my desk to look through the different subjects that I had during the day that I didn’t go to. I took one look at the work and immediately turned it back off again. I had no energy and was not spending hours of my life that could be spent sleeping on doing schoolwork. I would need to do a lot tomorrow after skipping. I somehow managed to drag myself to my bed and snuggle deep into the duvets and pillows that took over most of the bed.
“Katie! Wake up and get down here!” My mum called from downstairs just as my alarm started to blare its music. For the second time today, I groaned into my pillow and dragged myself into an upright position. I am really looking forward to the Christmas Holidays so that I don’t have to wake up at this obnoxious time every morning. “Katie!”
“I’m coming!”
Without even checking what I was putting on I got dressed and brushed my hair so that it could cascade smoothly down my back. I moved like a zombie to the kitchen to a sight I never thought that I would ever see. Mum, Uncle Cody, Zach and Jaxon all sitting around together. There was no bickering but then wasn't a conversation for anything bad to occur from. I guess I should be thankful for that even if it is only microscopic. I went to my normal seat at the table only to find that it was taken by another. “Could you move, please? This is my normal seat.” In my peripheral vision, I could see the disapproving look that my mum always threw my way when I asked someone to move for me. She is a selfless woman that I have never managed to achieve to the same extent and I still think for myself. She will never approve of it.
“I was thinking that you, Jaxon and Zac could all go to school together and get to know each other properly.” Without turning around I knew the look that my mum was giving me and that I could never get out of the situation especially as they were all here in the same room as me. Instead, I just smiled at her to acknowledge that I would. Her eyes lit up with joy.
Breakfast became a quiet and tension-filled meal and I couldn’t wait to leave even if it meant being alone with Zac and Jaxon. “I’m going to go now. Bye mum, Uncle Cody. Love you both. Are you two just gonna sit there or come too?” I had to suppress the urge to roll my eyes at the two of them looking awkward around each other after what happened in my room just a few nights ago.
Unknown P.O.V
The door closed as I watched her leave. I turned away and tried to suppress the tugging of my heart to go after her. To tell her the truth yet I want the mother to know and be onboard with the decision. I don’t want to continue living in secret for another year or even longer. I am done pretending. “Don’t you dare tell her. She doesn’t want to know who you are to her.” I turned to my love and wished on a million stars that she could see I wanted a family that loved each other. To be with her once again.
