“She’s gotten worse,” James affirmed again to Diana, later when he escorted her back up to her room. “Which is saying something.” They’d left the Westerlys and Evangeline downstairs, engaged in secretive whispers and glances. It made Diana feel paranoid, but she could almost swear they were communicating somehow, without her knowing. Even James wasn’t out of the loop, it seemed. When he’d decided to escort her upstairs, it had been as though some switch flipped.
