Chapter four : for men only, part one

Abby's POV :

" Oh, did you miss me so fast?" she chuckled as it hasn't been an hour since we spoke.

" no Jane, listen please, There's a big problem," I said as I started explaining the whole thing to her.

"ohhh I see, I'll be at your house in thirty minutes to see what are we going to do" that was all she said, and then she hung up.

I paced the room up and down, trying to figure out why dad had hidden this thing from us, I remember our first day in this house like yesterday, I was six, and my mom was pregnant with Blake. when my dad came to our old apartment and told us that he bought us a big house to live in and he said to me.

"My little princess, there's a little room with all the toys you love so you can play with whenever you want, In addition to another big room, this will be your kingdom that no one else will ever enter."

I embraced him very much, and I thank him for this beautiful surprise and kissed him, he then kissed me back on my forehead and said"Anything for you my little princess"

we came here's to take a look at the house, I was very happy with it and we immediately started in all the preparations to make the house suitable for us. I was the one who chose the colors and decorations of my room, and without anyone's help, I decided to make my room look like me. Tears began to roll down my cheeks when I remembered this situation, We were so happy then, what I couldn't understand was why my dad didn't tell us the house was a mortgage. What if something had happened to him and no one was there to help us what would have happened then? I know he didn't have bad intentions, And he didn't like to worry about his problems.

but he should have told us, the sound of the doorbell ringing pulled me from my thoughts and I went to open the door, and when I did, Jane rushed saying with a smug smirk on her face " I'm so hungry, and I know you haven't had your breakfast yet, so I'd kindly have it with you, So get us two cups of coffee and some sandwiches to have while we talk." She was moving her hand in a command form, so I threw a pillow at her, but it didn't hit her, which made her triumphant giggling, I went to the kitchen laughing to get her what she asked for, and after processing the orders, I went to my room, where she was sitting, and I put the tray with the sandwiches and coffee on a small table, while we sat on the couch in one of the corners of the room, and we started talking about the message while we had breakfast.

"First we need to call the bank and make sure this is true and it's not a silly trick from anyone," said Jane.

" then we have....." I interrupted her.

" then I have to look for a job, I have an internal feeling that this message is true, so I have to work to pay the installments so I don't find me and Blake on the street homeless," I said sadly.

" Speaking of Blake, where he is, I haven't seen him since I came in," asked Jane.

" He went to school. He says he has an important test today, and he told me he's going to be a little late as he's got after-school training for the next game," I answered.

" Then we shouldn't tell him about the letter, and we'll just say that you're looking for a job so you can take up your time since you're feeling empty and you can't find what you've been doing since your parents died," said Jane.

I think that's a good idea, But where am I going to find a highly paid job (and I'm a new graduate with no experience) enough to pay 5k for the bank premiums, plus my expenses, and Blake's also." I said with no hope in my voice, and my shoulders were swelled.

" Hey, We're going to find this job, you're going to be able to pay the premiums, you're going to keep the house, and everything's going to get better, as long as I'm here, I won't let anything bad happen to you," said Jane as she smiled and got closer to me and hugged me, the surprise took me for a moment before I hugged here back happily, I don't know what I would have done without her.

" Now can we please go back to coffee? It's starting to cool down and I don't like it cold, Besides, I'd rather be in a man's lap than in yours, Don't get me wrong, but I'm not interested in you," She said she pulled out of my lap to continue drinking coffee, I laughed before I slap her on the shoulder.

We finished our food and called the bank to make sure the message was correct, and it was, so we split the tasks between us, I started looking for a job online while she called all our contacts to ask for suitable jobs.

After six hours of painstaking searching and contacting all the people, we couldn't find anything to suit me, It was like looking for a needle in a haystack, I started to get tired, my belly started making sounds of hunger, and I was sure Jane was lying on the couch of fatigue, And when I tried to move out of my place, my body was moaning in pain It was like I'd been sitting in my place for years. And with every move, it was like trying to get out of the ice, and when I finally got to the ground, I started to stretch my body, I growled as I did so, Then I turned my attention to Jane, as she hasn't made a sound in half an hour.

" Jane, still alive?" I chuckled

"I suppose" was all she said Without moving a finger.

" I'm going to take a quick shower, could you please order us some food, I'm starving, I think I can eat a whole elephant on my own." my stomach made a low rumble while I said that.

" see" as I pointed to my stomach.

" In your dreams, one more call, and I'm going to lose my mind and go crazy," she said

" pleeeeease Jane, I'll pay for it, also I'll do anything you want" I plead using my best puppy dog eyes as I hate to order food since this is boring, and I know she's going to try to make the most of this, and I think it worked as she pursed her lips and looked up acting to be contemplating over it.

" ok, if you are going to do anything I want, and I think I found this thing," she said with a devilish smirk on her face.

" fine, We'll talk about it later, but now I'm in desperate need of this shower, my smell is unbearable." I jumped out of happiness and then ran into the bathroom before she changed her mind.

" Don't forget you're going to pay, so don't be late in there, and I think I also need to take a shower, I think I also need to take a shower." She yelled after me.

"I won't," I said before closing the bathroom door behind me.

Half an hour later, I went out and Jane went in to take a shower, too. while I went to pick up the order, Jane had ordered three boxes of pizza and two cans of soda, The pizza was hot and smelled delicious, so I went to knock on the bathroom door because I didn't want to eat it alone, plus Jane takes a lot of time in the shower, and I don't think I'll be able to wait long.

" Jane, come on, get out, The pizza's here and it looks delicious, and I don't think I'll be able to wait another minute," I said trying to get her out of the bathroom

"Don't you dare just think about it, or I swear if you do so, I'm going to give up the idea of eating pizza, and I'm going to think about eating You " she growled the last word threatening to make sure I don't get close to pizza, Then I heard the sound of the water running off, so I went to get pizza and soda cans, and I put it next to me on the bed.

As I continued searching for the job, Jane walked out of the bathroom to sit next to me and start eating pizza.

While I was passing the screen down bored, I finally found the job I was looking for, but because happiness wasn't complete, the conditions for the job were strange.

First, the instructions included 12 hours of work.

Secondly, only men were required to work, and there was no sign of allowing women to apply, and this was the strangest thing about it, what was difficult to work as a secretary and personal assistant, even if the duration of the work was 12 hours, what men would be able to do in this job, women would not be able to do, I started thinking about a reason, but I couldn't find it in the end, so I breathed desperately, cursing my luck in my mind Because the only job that gave the salary I wanted only asked the men to work.

I showed Jane the ad and she had the same question with a startled look on her face, Then I looked at the name of the company that put the ad and searched it online, He wrote that this company was part of a group of companies owned by the Spencer family, one of California's richest families and one of its businessmen and that since its current chairman, Adam Spencer, has been in charge, it does not allow women to work there or even enter until the press called it a men-only company.

I read to Jane what was written about the company and she said that she had heard about this company before, but she thought then that it was just rumors published by the press as usual and that this talk has no basis in truth, but now that it is real, she commented."One of the most important companies in the United States that follow the ownership of one of the most important families, yet its CEO with a backward mind doesn't recognize the importance of women and people who consider the presence of women in the field of work to be irrelevant, What a shame for his family." with a disgusted look on her face.

" Or it could be one of the gays who doesn't like dealing with women," I suggested.

" It can't be because even if he's gay, he's not going to stop women from working for him, this guy must be a psychopath." she was totally pissed at him now.

I calmed her down and I told her it wouldn't have anything to do with us, so there's no need to get mad at him since we're never going to cross our roads, and after we're done eating, we're back looking for the job again, but no result, and three more hours later, Jane asked to go home with a promise to call me if she found anything.

Two days later, I was preparing some food for breakfast, thinking about the men-only job, When I heard the phone ringing, and I was putting it on the dining table in the kitchen, I lifted it to find that the caller was Jane, and I quickly answered hoping that she had any good news about the job.

" Good morning, lazy, still making breakfast, aren't you?." she said.

" good morning Jane, yes I'm" I chuckled

" Then make it doubled, as I'm going to stop by, I've got some news that may interests you, Half an hour, and I'll arrive," she said.

I started making her breakfast, I waited for her to arrive half an hour later, I heard knocking on the door on time, One of Jane's advantages is that she's never been late for the exact time, unlike me.

I went to open the door, and Jane rushed in, asked for breakfast, and she told me to bring it in and follow her to my room, as I entered the room she started talking.

" Do you remember that company of the Spencer family group of companies that asked that the applicants be men only?" she asked.

" yes I do, How can I forget?" I said

"I started looking for its CEO and find out why he stuck to the work of men only in his company and after a hard search, I did not find any result until I knew from one of my friends that he is not gay but he just hates women so much without giving any reasons and that the woman who tries to approach him ends up with several fractures and some injuries and thrown to the road in front of his company and that the only one who knows the reason for all this hatred is his best friend Edward Alexander," She said she was trying to take her breath away after all this constant talk.

" "What a psychopath." I gasped out.

I started thinking about it again, and I see this job as the only chance to save my brother and me from homelessness, but how am I going to apply for the job, and she's only asking for the men, then I thought

"What if I tried to disguise myself as a man and apply for the job, I'm the most qualified person, and I think it's worth it." I didn't realize I spoke that loudly until I noticed the look of surprise on Jane's face and her open jaw.

"Have you gone insane?, no you are not going to do that, You know what's going to happen to you if you were exposed, one of the simplest things that are going to happen to you is going to jail for forgery and impersonation, That's in case Adam leaves you alive," she yelled.

" Please Jane, don't try to dissuade me from doing this, That's my only hope of saving me from losing the house, and I'm sure with your help, no one will doubt that I'm a man from the beginning," I said giving her my puppy dog eyes, she looked up and started contemplating about it, I always knew that this look never failed with her and it was

" what are we going to do about it," she said defeated.

We started drawing up a plan that would enable me to work for the company without getting caught.
