Chapter Five Beathan was unsure about what was going on. Though he’d never fully believed his own story about Tristan being responsible for putting the creature’s paw print on the ground by the Red Scowl, it had eased his mind to think it so. Now that one just like it had appeared outside the village in the middle of a four-day storm, he didn’t know what to think. It was still feasible Tristan was behind it. Perhaps he’d put this new one so close to the village to scare someone (like Mor) into admitting they’d seem something similar before. That didn’t seem likely though. For the last few weeks, Beathan had been working on his plan and he’d visited the Red Scowl on four occasions so far — and on the last two he’d passed the threshold into the forbidden lands. Neither time had he stayed
