Laying on the bed in the guest chamber lent to me. I can't help but stare at the canopy above while thinking about the contents of the conversation days before. “What even Am I?” I wonder ceaselessly.
Elvithal's likeness enters my mind as I shift my head to look upon the bedroom door. “A Great power had scared away many people and monsters from these lands. It has been that way for centuries” he had mentioned.
I could only imagine where that power had come from and where it had gone, assuming it left based on Elvithal's manner of speech. Shorty after my suspicions were confirmed, but in a very shocking revelation.
“The power that had held what seemed to be the world at bay, resided in that underground ruin. The power that resides in you, though you seem not to know how to use it.”
“Power inside of me?” I repeat over and over within my own mind. Aside from that he regaled me a story long and old about how and why he came to roost in these lands. Mostly to watch over the power that he would rather not get involved with... At least until he saw the source of the power.
“Power found in the breast of innocence. Immense in nature. Born of the very elements.” He would come to say. That I hold the power of each worldly element entwined with my Soul. But I wonder what that has to do with him?
More importantly, I wonder why he has such good faith that I won't harm him, if I am someone, or something that holds such immeasurable power inside myself. Perhaps now that I Have given things at least a little bit of thought. I truly wish to know what he would say. With that thought in mind I hop to my feet and straighten my clothes before heading out the door.
Walking through these corridors I realize something. The entrance many days back, had been to ruins, and yet these halls are anything but. Reaching out to touch the wall I can only feel what seems like boundless energy swirling beneath my touch. “Could this be Elvithal's magic?” I could only wonder before heading the rest of the way to the grand hall where Elvithal always seems to be resting.
“Given things a bit of thought have you?” I hear before I could walk through the final archway.
“I have given it at least a little bit of thought. It is still all to confusing.” I say while stepping into the room. “But I have come across something that confuses me more than anything...”
“Why I don't think you are a threat?” He finishes my question. “I truly wish he would stay out of my mind.” I could only complain to myself.
“This, is something that I would have told you even without wondering. Though I admit, It had slipped my mind while we talked before hand.” He scratches his head and Laughs in embarrassment.
“You see, I am more than just any average Griffon or a Plain old High Griffon. I am what you would call a Progenitor, or the father of all of my kind. And just like many other Progenitors. My life span knows no bounds. And for the last thousand years I have watched over you and this land.” He paused to think before he continued explaining. “You know I can hear your thoughts. But that is only because you don't try to hide them. Not once have you ever hid them while you slept within those ruins. The emotions and feelings I had felt within those thoughts. Made even someone like me, feel great sorrow for the immense loneliness, and the want and need for someone to be there for you.”
With a sigh he looks at me with a mix of warmth and pity. “You, who don't even know who you are or where you come from. How could I leave something that felt so innocent and lost be by its self? Though I admit, I did not expect you to be in such a shape or body.”
I could only sit there in my own silence. I am in awe that he would be so straight forward and honest that he might have slipped and neglected to say all that he wanted or needed before. But all the same, I am at a loss at what to say or do.
Almost as if sensing my current state of mind Elvithal steps down from his roost and pats my head gently. “You have been asleep for so long, even if you remembered who you were or where you are from. You are not that person anymore. And I think we need a name to call you, Don't you think?”
After giving it some thought, I have felt nothing but honesty and warmth from his words and actions and nod in agreement. At the very least. A name would make me feel better, even if it is a new one given by him.
“Good! Good...” he exclaims in joy “Now lend me your hand for a moment if you would trust me?” he asks while taking a step back and stretching his hand out before me.
Reaching for and grabbing his hand gently, I look up to his face and see nothing but smiles before he clasps my hand between his. Turning to look at our hands being caught together I feel a warm soothing energy flow from him and into me.
“From this day forward. Your Name shall be Haukhi, and you shall be my Adopted child.” He says in what seems to be an Authoritative voice, as if declaring to the world his rights as a Progenitor.
Feeling as if the world grew lighter my body begins to shimmer in ebon light. The warmth from earlier spreads across my whole body before returning to Elvithal before he released my hand. Looking again at my hand I can't help but blink a few times when I notice that my nails actually managed to grow, and not only that, but they have gained a degree of sharpness, each nail having a single shimmering feather curving along the cuticle.
Before Elvithal takes a step forward to give my head another pat he smiles “We are now bonded little one. With this you should be able to feel a connection with me no matter where you might be in the world.” Taking his hand from the top of my head he gently rests it on my shoulder.
“Now I must say this. Since you are now one of my children, even if not born of my kin. I will teach you how to come in to your own power. To the magic unique to you and your soul... Or at least I can help a little bit. Our magics though share the same source from the world. Are very different in nature.”
And with that. My days learning about the world and learning how to use my own 'Magic' will begin.
