~CAKE~ By the time the car rolled into the compound, my head was pounding and my mood had turned completely sour. The bright morning light made everything worse, like the sun was mocking me for how the night had ended. I didn’t wait for Ignacio to open the door. I shoved it open myself, my heels hitting the pavement with a sharp click. Without saying a word, I went straight to the trunk, yanked out my suitcase, and started dragging it toward the house. The wheels bumped loudly over the ground. One of the maids hurried over when she saw me. “Madam, let me help you with—” I ignored her completely and kept walking. She hovered for a second, then wisely stepped back. I wasn’t in the mood for fake politeness or anyone trying to make things seem normal. Nothing about last night felt normal.
