~NICO~ I should be at the hospital. That is the only place I am supposed to be right now, and I know it. I know it with a clarity that sits heavy in my chest, pressing against my ribs with every breath I take. Instead, I’m gripping the steering wheel harder than necessary, my jaw tight, my mind stuck somewhere I shouldn’t be. That room. Those walls. Those pictures. My hand tightens again, knuckles whitening as the image pushes forward whether I want it to or not. The angles. The dates. The time it must have taken. The patience. Most importantly, the audacity. I exhale sharply through my nose, my tongue pressing against the inside of my cheek as I try to force it down. It doesn’t work. It only gets worse. The thought that he didn’t just watch her, but studied her. Memorized her.
