Awaited Mate

3. Tradition

“Poppy, remember the meeting today. It is important that we get the minor details of what everyone needs to do confirm and clarified as soon possible.”

“Okay, Daddy I just finished breakfast so I’ll go finish my pack duties and come back in time for the meeting.”

My dad nodded his approval. As the daughter of the Alpha, I had a few duties for my pack that I needed to complete. I went to my mother’s office on the top most floor of the pack house which was the floor where everyone had their offices. The Alpha’s office was right at the end to the right, next to my dad’s was my mum’s, the Luna’s office. On the left-hand side opposite my dad’s office was the current Beta’s office, Wyatt’s dad Tony Moreno next to his office was the Beta Female’s office, Wyatt’s mum Caro Moreno. Closer to me at the entrance to the floor on the left is the Gamma’s office, Kyle’s dad, Earl Lowe next to his is the Gamma female’s office Nara Lowe. Each floor was huge and each office for the pack leaders was gigantic, my dad’s being the biggest.

I usually use my mum’s office for any work that I need to complete, I walked in and there was a huge mahogany table in front of the floor to ceiling window with an extremely comfortable leather office chair behind it. Bookshelves on either side of the room and file cabinets on either side of the door. My mum keeps this place just like everything else, immaculate. I sat down in her chair and switched on my laptop. It was my duty to ensure that pack’s accounting books are up to date. I started shifting through some bills left for me in my drawer. It was tedious busy work but I loved it.

One hour later I was done, the books were up to date and it was time to go to my dad’s office for the meeting. As everyone was to either take their place in the pack rank or step down, the whole of the leadership was required to be present at the meeting. My dad and mum, Liam, Tony and Caro, Wyatt and Sabrina, Earl and Nara and lastly Kyle, what I didn’t understand was why I needed to attend but I usually don’t question my dad I just do what he asks me to.

I walked into my dad’s office and everyone was already there, trust everyone to be early when I have work to do. I was okay though because as I looked at the clock it was 9:00 am, I was not late; I was on time for the meeting.

“Now that Scarlet joined let’s start. Vera has all the preparation for the ceremony been taken care off.”

“The feast is being prepared as we speak. The decorations and the stage have been set up and the attire for both Liam and Scar is kept ready in their rooms.”

“Good… Good… Now Tony and Caro, an update from you please”

“Alpha as you can see the invitations have been sent and everyone RSVP’d yes. The Golden Chalice from the King was received by Tony last week and the attire for Wyatt and Sabrina is ready in their rooms” Aunt Caro replied

“Good… good… Did u have any issues getting the chalice here Tony? As I heard that the Half-moon Pack are also having their Alpha Ceremony in a few days.”

“No Alpha. I had no issues getting the Chalice here. I spoke to Beta Darren of the Half-moon Pack and cleared that they planned on having the ceremony in the next two weeks. So, we decided that the chalice comes here first and then I will ensure that it is passed into Darren’s hands. After which he will be responsible for the same until it reaches the King again.”

They kept going back and forth like this. I was truly bored as I did not get any work to do for the ceremony, I didn’t need to update anybody about anything. I couldn’t understand why my dad wanted me present.

Once they completed the discussion for the ceremony. My dad turned to me

“Poppy, it is one of our traditions to have the sister of the Alpha complete her first shift when the new Alpha takes his first shift, as Alpha after the ceremony. After which u will go for the pack run to strengthen the bond with the pack and until u find your mate or Liam finds his, you will be the acting Luna for all the responsibilities that the position requires. Do you understand?”

Now this was news. I did not know that I was supposed to do this. My mum has been training me for Luna duties since I could remember but I always assumed that it would be because I might be mated to an Alpha not because I would have to step in for my brother’s Luna first.

I was going through this in my mind for a few seconds. When Carly woke up

“Scar we cannot shift with our brother.”

“What do you mean? If it’s tradition then I don’t think we have a choice.”

“You need to talk to the Alpha and explain. We have to shift when our mate is ready to shift.”

“Carly that’s madness we don’t even know who or where he is?”

“We will know when to shift. You don’t worry about that. His wolf, my mate will connect with me subconsciously when we are ready to shift.”

“You’re not going to tell why this is, are you?”

“I actually don’t know. The Moon Goddess told me to shift when my mate shifts and he will connect with me when we can do this. If it happens today than we are in luck but if it doesn’t, we cannot. It’s of the utmost importance. It will be instantaneous the shift not like everyone else.”

“You mean; I wouldn’t even know when this is going to happen”

“Yes, talk to the Alpha and tell him about it. We NEED to shift with our mate”

“Dad” I hesitated just a bit before speaking up.

“Yes Poppy.”

“I need to speak to you with regard to something important. Can we leave the discussion of me shifting for a little later? I would like an audience with you in private.”

My dad looked confused but he agreed. I didn’t want anyone apart from my immediate family when I relay this news to them. Everyone was already looking at me with weird expressions on their faces.

The meeting was adjourned after a few more discussions and everyone filed out except my dad, my brother and my mother. I knew they would understand to stay when I said private.
