She stared blankly at the empty space in front of her, feeling different emotions swirl in her being.
Her heart tugged painfully beneath her chest at her own agreement to call off their engagement.
But when she thought about everything she had gone through because of that man, her heart hardened.
She pushed all the feelings aside, showing no sign of regret.
She was not going to beg for his love twice.
Meanwhile, inside the high-end hotel, Eric had returned to the banquet, his face devoid of any emotion, yet his chest was unfathomably heavy.
He felt surprised at how Onyx had readily agreed to call off their engagement.
The Onyx he knew would have begged him not to leave her and not to call it off, but now, she had actually not protested.
It made him wonder if he was making a mistake, yet he brushed the thoughts aside, wearing a smile.
What did he care? She would still come back begging for him to take her back. He decided to enjoy the engagement.
Yuri, who was previously worried that Onyx would tell James that it was her who plotted her falling into the pool, felt relieved when he walked over to her, handing her a glass of wine.
She accepted it with a smile, her eyes shone brightly. She had always had feelings for Eric, but who knew Onyx's mother had used her mischievous tactics to pair up the two children when they were still young? And now that Onyx had turned 20, they had officially become engaged.
She just couldn't accept it and found a way to make Eric call off the engagement.
If Eric did not like the woman, there wouldn't be any engagement or wedding, would there? She smiled deviously in her heart.
“Sorry for my sister Onyx's behavior just now.” Yuri pleaded, her tone marred with a little hesitation, as though she was truly apologizing for her sister's wrong doing.
Eric stared at the young woman in front of him, feeling that she was a stark contrast to Onyx, whose face he could not even look at. He did not understand why his mother liked the girl so much.
Yuri, on the other hand, was not only beautiful but also considerate, even speaking for her sister, who had just embarrassed her just minutes ago. If only Onyx would be just like her sister.
“It's fine. It wasn't your fault,” Eric said, seething in anger as he remembered the look of detachment Onyx had given him earlier. What right did she have?
“Now, now. You can't be angry at her, or she will blame you for it in front of father.” Yuri said with a smile as she sipped her drink.
Just like that, the night wore on.
At Onyx's end, she walked through the neighborhood, not knowing where she was heading.
She did not know what to feel at the moment.
The thunder that roared loudly in the sky reminded her of how sorrowful she was.
Soon, rain poured from the sky, drenching her completely, but she did not care to find shelter.
What did it matter if she got drenched?
She had already fallen into the pool earlier, so it didn't matter at all.
She felt as though a hand was clutching onto her chest and not letting go. It hurt, yet she could not scream or cry.
She suddenly jolted back to reality, hearing her phone beep. Holding it up, she saw that it had died from getting drenched in the rain.
It was a good thing she had already called for an Uber to take her home.
Just then, a black sports car pulled up on the pavement, catching her attention.
She ran towards it, as though reality had just hit her that she would get sick if she stayed in the rain for too long.
Her hand reached for the handle as she pulled the door open, settling inside, all drenched.
She tucked the loose strands of her hair behind her ear, not realizing the man who was seated beside her, his gaze cold.
The chauffeur stared at the unfamiliar woman who had suddenly entered the car, feeling his heart thump in fear for her. He could guess that his boss did not know her.
He could sense the change in the man's temperament, yet he did not say anything.
The smell of sweat and blood from her scraped arm mingled together, spreading throughout the air, making the man's nose scrunch up.
Onyx, who had not realized what was going on, voiced out…
“Can we go now?”
And the chauffeur stared at the boss through the rearview mirror. Seeing the man had not said anything, he started the car, driving off.
Onyx stared out the window, seeing the faint city lights fade into her vision.
She had to put herself together for later, she thought.
She had to be prepared.
“Where is the Miss heading?” The chauffeur’s voice pierced her ears, and she turned to stare at him.
“The Anderson family mansion.” She said, making the man's eyes widen a bit before returning to normal.
He had heard about the Anderson family, but did not know they had a second young miss.
The car drove on for what seemed like an hour until it swerved, making Onyx lose balance, falling into the man's embrace that she had not even noticed.
He stared at the woman in the dimly lit car, seeing her face that was covered in red spots.
If others saw her, they would immediately consider her hideous, but as he stared at her, he felt that if it wasn't for the spots on her face, she would have been a beauty. Her doe eyes made her beauty stand out.
“I'm…sorry.” Onyx stuttered, pulling her wet body away from him before pulling out a few wet bills from her purse and handing it to the chauffeur, who looked taken aback.
But before he could mouth a rejection, she had already stepped out of the car, her dainty figure entering the mansion ahead.
The chauffeur stared at the cold man from the rearview mirror, waiting for him to toss his coat out of the window, since the woman had touched him, but his cold voice rang out…
“Drive.”
