Chapter Twenty-Seven Despite the situation, this event was the highlight of her day. The room she’d been alone in yesterday was teeming with people today. Seeing partners and children greeting their incarcerated father’s and spouses brought tears to her eyes. The men were scary, some were bulky, others were wiry and sly, but few were the type you’d want to meet in a secluded alley on a dark night. Now Ryder had been lumped in with them. When he came in and sat down, the rest of the room melted away. Her focus was him. She noted how tired he looked.
