I walked in the front door and I damn near walked right into her. "MOM!" I said, "What the heck are you doing?! You scarred that crap out of me?" She grabbed my arm and rushed me to my room, slammed the door and locked it. I was so nervous by her behavior. It made me sick to my stomach. "Mom, please!? What is going on?," I pleaded
She spun around on her heals and quickly ran up to me and embraced me tightly. "Oh Shelbee," she finally said, "I am so happy for you! I know you had never put much thought into having a mate but I can smell him on you! I could smell him the moment you walked up on the side walk. Please tell me, what do you think of Luka?"
"WHAT?!? How do you know about Luka?" I said.
Mom then must have realized that I had not told her that Luka was my mate. He face went pale and she plopped her a*s on my bed. "Shelbee," she said, "come sit by me dear. It is time we talk about you, your mate, and the pack's future."
"I have known from the time you were in utero that Luka was your mate. Luka's mom and I were best friends for years and we still are, despite the efforts your father tries to keep me away from her. When I went to tell her of the news of you, she was coming to tell me the news of him. When we gave each other a hug we both instantly knew of what life meant for you two. We have kept in touch from time to time. You see, your father and Luka's father were best friends many moons ago. Then your father and Chase, Luka's father, had to fight to be the leader of our pack. Both of them were mighty and powerful. Your father believes Chase cheated by using a witch. Chase won the battle. But he stepped down, and gave the title to your father. Both packs are equally tough but your father has grown to hate Chase and his pack after what happened. Lydia, Luka's mom, and I have pieced some puzzles together. Chase's dad was the alpha of our pack, your father's father was the beta. Chase admitted to Lydia that he believes his father hired the witch to cast a spell on Trenton and make him unable to physically fight. And that is why he chose to step down. Chase did the right thing. But your father, being his typical stubborn self, won't give in to the fact that he thought Chase only stepped down to make people feel pitty on him. You know full well your father does not take things like this lightly. I know this is so much to take in, and your father will fight you until the end on Luka being your mate but you cannot give up. The Shrine's are good people, do not let your father's opinion detour you sweety, one bad apple doesnt make them all bad. Be strong. This is what the moon goddess was telling your father all of those years ago, he is just too ignorant to believe that she meant your mate is the son of his enemy." She kissed my forehead and got up off the bed and walked to the door, then turned around to face me, "Luka is your mate, Shelbee. Do not let your father take such a great gift away from you. This is our chance to reunite as packs and be unstoppable. Breakfast is in the oven keeping warm for when you are hungry. We will talk again soon.... oh and Happy Birthday sweetheart, dont forget about your party tonight" and with that she turned around and walked out, closing the door behind her.
My head is now spinning. Maybe...... just maybe I will get to be with Luka. Now to just avoid my father for today. But just how am I going to do that tonight...?
