Ernest's New Development Plan

1524 Words
As the age of the winter demons rages on, the city of Eighbury remains unperturbed. People can go on with their daily lives without fear of monsters infiltrating and running amok in their cities, and work demands skyrocketed as the heap of ice began obstructing the under-construction roads. With enough supply of food, Ernest calculated along with the minister of food and agriculture that Eighbury can sustain to survive in this winter season. But in exchange for that transient stability and peace, every night, the roaring sound of the guns firing to kill the invading monsters disturbed those who lived near the city walls, and the people who were living there demanded the UNSP a solution. Early in the morning, when the sun was about to rise and cast its great brilliance, Ernest finished his daily quest of strengthening his body via exercising. He has been working out ever since the system gave that mission and now the effects are starting to appear. He looked at the mirror and scanned himself. His muscles that were underdeveloped during his time on Earth were now all developed. "Haah...would you look at you...handsome." He said to the man in the mirror. "But sadly, you have work to do." Ernest put on his usual uniform and began working for the day. First order of business, thanks to Sophia's skill in organizing his work, he was able to work on urgent matters. For example, the people living near the city wall demanded to lower the noise of the gun during the night as it disturbed them in their sleep. "Hah?!" Ernest snorted, displeased at what he just read. "What the...that's your protection you dumbass, if that sound didn't exist then I wouldn't receive this letter from you." He stamped the letter, denying it. The next order of business is the supply of ammunition. At the start of the age of the winter, demons took a toll on their ammunition supply as the Protection Squadron defended the city 24/7 from the monsters. This can be solved by conserving their ammunition. Even if they are monsters, their anatomy is similar to a normal animal that is carbon-based, a three or four bullet will do. Third-order of business, Guilhem's request on procurement of logistics vehicles. He was about to do that last week until Sophia interrupted him by suddenly entering his room. Now, it looks like there's nothing urgent that would make Sophia come into his room, meaning he has the time he needs to decide on what to purchase on the system. Opening his tyrant system, he browsed in the vehicle's tab. At this moment, Ernest had thought before that purchasing a car from the middle 20th century won't be as efficient compared to the modern ones. He had a simple reason, "If the system has access to modern vehicles, then why would he need something underdeveloped? In this fantasy world, two million years of human culmination are his only weapon. If the Spear of Fiery Heavens is destructive magic that could wipe out a whole city, then he should summon a weapon with the same capabilities and power. Digressing on that thought, Ernest began adding vehicles in the "add to cart" tab. He'll summon it in the secret place where Guilhem and Ernest are conducting his summoning ritual. Speaking of summoning, Ernest had summoned factories that started an industrial revolution in the City of Eighbury, which makes logistic vehicles prove to be useful. He allocated 180,000 tyrant points in logistical vehicles such as trucks and cars. He could've summoned rails that will serve as the path for freight trains but he refrained from doing so to conserve his limited tyrant points. "I'll have to contact the minister of construction about creating a railway from the treasure mountains to the prospected location of the source of sulfur. In the process, if there was a coal deposit nearby, I would have it all dug up." As he talked to himself, Ernest realized something between his lines, specifically, a word. "Contact…" This world's form of communication is through carrier pigeon and messenger. There is no form of wireless communication unless there's a magic spell for that. But he doesn't want to rely on magic spells as it can be possible for someone to tap it. So he came up with the idea of creating a communication line. Even if it's not wireless like radio. Something like wired communication. Ernest knew where to get that in the system, it's in the facility's tab. He saw the price, it would cost him another 150,000 tyrant points. A number that is worth an investment. Communication could serve as a weapon as there's no real-time communication technology in this era, if he summoned one, then it would be advantageous. After that, he thinks deeply again, thinking of what he is lacking in his city, he now has a sewage and water system under construction, a water pumping station that is also under construction, a coal-powered electric plant that would be operating in the coming months, wired and possible wireless communications, vehicles, and modern weaponry to fend of the monsters. Now what he is lacking? An answer came up abruptly in his head. In the part where he said "modern weaponry." Ernest remembered his first time seeing the Protection Squadron in action, killing hordes of wolves. The problem is that those monsters are active at night and at night, the visibility is so nil that he had to summon a flare gun to illuminate the field. "Another weapon to be summoned huh?" Luckily, he knows what's to look for, a mortar that spews mortar flare rounds. Specifically the Lyran illuminating mortar and tracer bullets. "Sophia!!" He shouted. Across the room was another office room that serves as an office of the Volksfuhrer's secretary, where Sophia is working. She heard the call and hurriedly headed towards his office. "You called for me, Volksfuhrer? What is it? Are you hungry, do you want me to cook breakfast for you?" "No...I want you to do something for me." Ernest said, "I want you to meet up with the minister of construction as I have another development project in mind. Here's what I want, I need more manpower, construction workers." "How many do you have in mind?" "Maybe one or ten thousand." Sophia gulped at the huge number. "Volksfuhrer, if I may add something...our coffers would dry up if we hired that many of people...Also, our finances have taken a hit on the current construction budgets alone and you want to build more?" "What do you mean we don't have any money? We can get it from the lords in the southern cities. Make them pay for their labors." "But sir...we would be seen as aggressors." "Aggressors? I don't understand, Sophia." "Sir, they've pledged their allegiance to you but they still want to keep their wealth…" "Huwhat?" The veins in his face swell in infuriation. "Didn't they read the new statutes, that I am the one who's in power? Are you insinuating that they've not fully pledged their allegiance to the party? What I am just asking is money, if they don't want to give it then a show of force might force their hands on handing us what we need. Which I'll definitely do if they don't comply with my orders. "I will work on that, Volksfuhrer." "And also, I heard that there are rich nobles living in those states, I want you to tax them, hard, just like they've heavily taxed the poor people." "But what if the nobles won't comply or oblige to your orders?" Ernest grinned devilishly, "If they don't comply, well, we are going to do some old-fashioned iron-fisting…" A knock on the door was heard. Ernest and Sophia turned and looked at the person entering the room. It was Nicholas. "Pardon me if I've heard your conversations, Volksfuhrer, ma'am." He bowed his head politely, "But there's no need to worry, you have the full support of the noble in the southern cities." Nicholas assured. "How can you be so certain of that? According to the UNSP rule, only I, the Volksfuhrer, have the power. Allegiance to the party means they could lose their properties and wealth." "Hmm? Are you saying that you're abolishing feudalism, Volksfuhrer?" Ernest didn't answer by urging him to answer. "Like I said, how can you be so sure?" Nicholas answered, "Lex, the minister of propaganda is a prominent noble in the western region, I'm sure that he had taken care of and had indoctrinated the nobles about the new policies of UNSP. As for me, I'm famous in the western region. So when the nobles see me working with you…" "I'll gain their support…" Ernest finished his words, "Simple but effective." He continued. "I'll visit Guilhem about new productions of weapons to be used by Protection Squadron against the age of the winter demons, expect it to come by a day or two." 'Understood, Volksfuhrer." "Then...why are you here?" Ernest asked. "Volksfuhrer, we have finally received a letter from our infiltration group and I would like to report it to you personally."
