One month later.
"So cold...."
Ernest's body shivered for a slight moment as he felt the chilly breeze pass through him from the open window. The winter season is finally coming tomorrow and yet here he is, shivering. He wondered, what if the winter really came. He would find his body shivering 24/7.
Even after living for three months in the city, Ernest still hasn't recuperated to his new environment. It's a completely different environment and season to him. In the Philippines, there are only two seasons: wet and dry seasons. Each takes six months to end. But in this world, similar to the European season, it has four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter.
Now the fall season is reaching its end and everyone is preparing themselves for the coming winter. However, despite the readiness, their wooden house still can't fight against the freezing temperature of the winter.
Ernest thought of a way to help them survive the winter. Last week, he used the shop tab of the system to buy winter clothing and sent it to Zanac, a clothing company owner, to be reproduced and gave it out to the rest of the citizens.
They'll just need to endure this coming winter, once they do, their houses would undergo massive reconstruction, changing the exterior with cement and making way for the indoor plumbing system.
All of which is stated in the industrialization act. For now, the construction workers are focusing on excavating the road to make way for the cement pipe, water pipelines, and sewage lines.
As of this day, the construction progress is at 70%. Thanks to the unity of all races and their unique abilities, they were able to surpass what an average human does on Earth.
Once the pipelines are all set, they'll focus on paving the roads and transmission lines. In which the city, in the future, will be powered by electricity.
Ernest is confident that even during winter, the construction can continue, after all, he had already set up defenses around the city to protect itself from the threat of the age of the winter demons.
There hasn't been much of a threat internally, but externally, the threat of monsters will skyrocket when the age of the winter demons comes.
The age of the winter demons is a phenomenon in this world in which animal monsters began to lurk in numbers throughout the continent. Monster insects that are more agile and swift compared to their normal counterpart, a beast whose body size, strength, dexterity, doubled.
They move in droves, hunting for food in the middle of the winter. Rural villages that have no walls or barriers are prone to this threat and thus fled and seek refuge in nearby cities and wait there till spring.
To deal with this threat, Ernest had upgraded the weapon of the Protection Squadron, replacing the M1 Garand with Heckler and Koch G36 assault rifle. But it doesn't mean that the M1 Garand was decommissioned, they still serve a purpose as not all soldiers in the Protection Squadron will be able to hold the assault rifle due to limited production.
In the battlement of the Eighbury's city walls, a machine gun called M2 Browning was already set and was manned by Protection Squadron 24/7. Providing air and land defenses.
…
In his governmental office affairs, Ernest returned to his seat after pondering the winter season. He had never been in any other country before during his time on Earth, but now, he'll experience the winter he had never experienced before. Snowflakes falling on his hand, snow building up on the roof, while chilling in his room with his hot chocolate with marshmallows floating in it.
A knock on the door was heard and a figure of a girl stepped inside the room. It was Sophia, his trusty assistant.
"What do we have for today, Sophia?"
Putting down a number of files to Ernest's desk, Sophia spoke.
"I have a report to you about promulgating the ideals of UNSP in the southern cities. It's good news."
"Good news?" Ernest picked up the pile she set down and opened it, then he perused the contents. Seeing that, the corners of his mouth curled into a satisfied smile.
"The Minister of Propaganda of UNSP, Lex, was able to absorb the southern cities, including Lavacea, our main source of raw material you call rubber. In those files, you'll see their statement as to why they have joined your cause. Feel free to read it."
While listening to Sophia, Ernest was already reading the files. The reason why the cities in the south opted to join him is to experience the luxury of the citizens of Eighbury. Which are conformity, jobs opportunities, business opportunities, et cetera. Compared to the other cities, they are still suffering from the lack of food, jobs, and still pointing out who's who about their current misery and suffering.
Lex was able to grab the opportunity by using the suffering of the people and tell them that when they join the UNSP, they'll have food, jobs, and a comfortable place to live which they desperately need most.
'Nice work, Lex.'
Ernest praised his minister of propaganda in his heart. It was a great help to him and to the city of Eighbury.
"How many supporters are we expecting to have? Give me an estimate."
"It's written in the file, Volksfuhrer." Sophia pointed.
"Okay…"
Ernest read the file again and saw the number of people joining the UNSP. It numbers 150,000 people.
Currently, Lex is spreading the word about the UNSP through newspapers and speeches. He had been in six cities that, when combined, had 150,000 people.
The western region of the Kingdom of Crentis has a lower amount of population as it is far away from the capital located in the eastern region which is the populated area of the kingdom.
The system stated that the current population of the Kingdom of Crentis is 37 million people.
It's still low. Ernest started in a small city called Eighbury which only has a population of 3,000. And now that it has increased to 153,000 meaning there will be a change in governmental structure.
The United National Socialist Party is now not a mere party, it is now a state.
Ernest grabbed the western region map from under his desk and spread it out on his table. With a red marker, he shaded the region that is now under the UNSP rule.
There are still unshaded parts at the coastal cities but Ernest knows that it's only a matter of time until Lex will make a speech there and absorb them under the UNSP.
But now, he looked at the map. The southern part of the western region is shaded red, meaning UNSP territory, while in the north, Duke Gustave territory.
"Hmm...perfect."
"I think the reason why the southern cities were absorbed quickly is that they don't like how Duke Gustave's governance," Sophia stated.
"Not just that, the Duke doesn't have much influence on the southern cities so his rules and law were not really enforced. Speaking of which, where is the infiltration group I sent to conduct espionage? I sent them over a month ago and I still haven't heard of them. Any idea?"
"Beats me, maybe they are taking too long…"
"Well it's either that or they were found and probably dead...But anyway, now that our territory has expanded and the population increases there will be a significant change. The UNSP is no longer a mere party, it is now a state. I'll draft the constitution and policies which will be enforced. The moment I have finished drafting it, I'll call out a meeting to make things clear."
"Understood," Sophia noted.
Ernest raised his two fingers, "For now, the UNSP faces two threats. First is the age of the winter demons and second the Duke from the north."
"I am confident that our Protection Squadron will be able to repel the age of the winter demons…" Sophia stopped as she stared blankly in the window.
Ernest, who noticed something strange, also turned around to see what she was looking at.
Little droplets of snowdrops fell to the ground as some of them landed on his windows. Ernest's eyes widened, "It's snowing."
"Yes Volksfuhrer...it is now snowing."
"Then that means…"
In this world, the winter was the signal, a signal that the age of the winter demons had begun.
