An Unexpected Ally

Everything turned to night. Albarest had taken the captured Jasper to the castle of Count Grebel, the man Lord Gustave had entrusted with managing many of the domain's towns and villages, including Yutia Village. At that moment, Jasper was in the castle's underground dungeon, stripped down to his underwear and chained to the wall by his wrist. Likely, his cell doubled as an interrogation room. Other than the Protection Squadron, it was home to a number of ghastly objects. Numerous torturing devices can be seen, different types of blades lined perfectly on the table, and two guards whose hatred hasn't been quelled after Mike killed one of their men. "Gugh…." One of the men punched him in the abdomen, making him groan painfully, he didn't stop until he released his tenth strike. Blood trickled down his mouth, but Jasper only grinned with mockery, as if not concerned about his life at all. He knew that this was just a part of the interrogation technique to make the prisoner tell what they want, Jasper didn't easily give in. "You're tough huh?" "...gUGH…." Jasper groaned heavily, "...You...why don't you remove these manacles and let's see who's tougher?" Jasper challenged. "You're still confident even after you got captured? That confidence and pride of yours will only bring you down quickly." "This man is really tough." Said the other guard, "What do you say, comrade? Should we thrash some sense into him?" "That's a great idea." Knowing that he was going to get flogged again, Jasper prepared his body, steeled his mind, and focused on his original plan. He was going to get beat by them anyway so what's there to concern him? 'Now then, what to do?' It was a shame that they hadn't taken him to the actual lord's castle, but there was still probably valuable information he could force his way out whenever he pleased, but in doing so, his captors would go on high alert, making it harder to scour the castle for intel. The Protection Squadron spy decided it would be better to lie low and wait for a chance to stage a stealthier breakout. After which, Jasper could sneak into the count's chambers and take him hostage. Pumping that man for the information he needed on Gustave would probably be the easiest way to go. Suddenly, something interrupted the man's train of thought. He could hear the door leading out of the dungeon opening, and his jailer, Albarest, entered with a werebeast maid in tow. The maid carried a large wooden box. "Steph, set the tools down over there." "Ah, yes, sir…! There we are." A loud, metal clang rang out from inside the container as the maid set it down. Within were pliers, a hammer, a saw, and a variety of other normal-looking tools. However, all of them were covered in dark red rust. Jasper could tell they hadn't been used to build anything. These were implements for taking people apart. However, even in the face of all those cruel utensils, Jasper didn't flinch. He was not just an ordinary soldier, he was some sort of special forces that were trained to resist any form of torture. Those tools had no chance of breaking him. "Looks like the real show is about to start." "Oh, I assure you, this is going to be a good show." Albarest gave them a new order. "You two, you have done your part flogging him, you can go now." "Huh? B-but, Captain, won't it be dangerous with just you?" "Hoh? Who do you think I am? A run-of-the-mill knight? I can handle myself here. You two can go now, that's an order." "Y-Yes, sir! Please, take your time!" The guards noisily clambered up the stairs leading out of the dungeon. Jasper grinned sarcastically at Albarest's decision. "I might not look like I'm in much of a position to be saying this, but aren't you taking me a bit too lightly?" "Not in the slightest," the knight replied with a faint smile as he approached Jasper…" He pulled out some documents and read them loud enough for him to hear. "Jasper Blake, one of the 5% of the trained special forces in the military of Crentis Kingdom, serving Louis Nicholas as his commander. Now, he seems to be part of the rebel whose name is the United National Socialist Party. I assumed that by this information, Louis Nicholas, the army of the interior, joined the rebel party, am I right?" "Hmm, you've done your research. Precisely, the revered and respected General, Louis Nicholas, joined the rebel forces as its Senior Group Leader, or Obergruppenführer." "Then why did the respected man join the rebel forces?" "Because we are fighting for a cause. To stop the Empire and the Pro-empire nobles to oppress our people. By people I mean everyone including the werebeast, dwarves, elves, you name it." "I see…" Albarest put down the document and grabbed something from the wooden box. It was the weapon Jasper is currently using, the M9 Beretta. "What is this thing? I have never seen such a weapon like this before…" "Let's just say that it's a weapon of freedom." Jasper simply said. Albarest returned a nod, not wanting to expand their conversation about weapons. He became direct, by releasing Jasper from his restraints. There was nothing binding, Jasper anymore. Topping off this unusual turn of events, Albarest even knelt before Jasper and offered him a bow. "You have my deepest thanks for saving that girl." "I beg your pardon?" Wait, what the hell just happened? Jasper was unable to hide his confusion at the thoroughly unexpected conclusion to his imprisonment. As he gawked. "Steph?" "Ah, yes, right away, sir." The knight ordered Steph to give Jasper all his clothes and equipment back from where they'd been concealed, beneath the torture implements. "It's cold at night, so if you stay like that too long, you'll catch a cold. I believe this belongs to you." "...Wait, what's going on right now?" Jasper asked, still totally baffled. Albarest rose and clenched his fist in front of his chest. "Allow me to introduce myself once more. I am Paine Albarest, a knight in service to the kingdom and to Count Grebel. I am also a member of the Red Brigade, an organization that fears for the future of the Gustave domain. You, who had traveled from the rebel city of Eighbury to infiltrate this land, and we of the Red Brigade share a common enemy. The Warden of the North, Duke Elm Gustave." While introducing himself again to Jasper, Jasper was in the middle of wearing his clothes. He picked the M9 Beretta resting on the table, pushed the magazine release, and saw if the magazine still had bullets. He put the magazine back and c****d the pistol. During his practice with the new weapons, Jasper was engrossed in learning everything that there is to know about the pistol. He knew that when it fell into the enemy's hand, they wouldn't be able to use it as the safety of the gun was on. So he was confident in dropping his pistol earlier when he was arrested. "Red Brigade, you're a rebel as well huh?" "That's precisely correct. We are sick of how Duke Elm Gustave ran his dominion." "Oh, that's good. But that's going to be a problem." "What? Why?" "It's because we have different agendas." Albarest frowned at his answer, Jasper continued. "You said that we have a common enemy, well you're actually right there. Because in the future, we will be fighting him. However, your organization was formed only to put an end to Gustave's domain but we, the United National Socialist Party, wanted to reform everything that is wrong with our country. Pro-Empire nobles, A puppet king, that is costing the lives of our people. We wanted to return the Kingdom of Crentis glory, under Volksfuhrer rule." "So you're saying that your party is inciting a revolution." "That's right, only him can fix all of this. I've seen it with my own eyes when he governed Eighbury and you will be surprised when you see it on your own. He has this power that significantly changed the life of the people. Duke Gustave, the king, and their subservience are the only threat to us. Now that you know our differences, are you willing to let me go?" "You're betraying your country." "We are not betraying it, we are helping it. So, am I free to go or not?" "You can go." "Thank you...but before that I want you to give me information about Duke Gustave." "You'll get it along the way." "Along the way?" "Yes, because we, the Red Brigade, will be coming with you."
