Will I Die Today?

1533 Words
When Jack left for work Leah went downstairs to make me breakfast. This gave me time to think about everything that has happened. Jack had beaten me till I was almost dead and instead of taking me to the hospital he called for some doctor who is on the Company’s payroll. How could he do that? He risked my life on who knows how trained this doctor was. Also was Jack serious about burying me in the back yard? I need to get out of here today but how can I with a watch dog looming over me? Can I even leave in the state that I am in? I guess the first step is to figure out how much I can move my body and how much pain I am in. If I don’t feel like I am in black out pain, I will make my escape today. I need to get to the hospital. As I think this Leah walks in holding a tray of food. She walks towards the bedside table to put the tray down, “You will eat everything on this plate. If you don’t, I will tell Jack and he will deal with you as he sees fit.” She says as she starts walking away. “Yes, Ma’am. I need to go to the bathroom before I eat, please.” Leah puts her hands on her hips and huffs, “Okay, let’s get this done so you can eat and rest.” She comes to stand by the bed as I start to twist my body, moving my legs so that they dangle over the edge. I groaned out in pain as I moved. Leah grabbed me by the elbow and upper arm, slowly lifting me off the bed, so I am in a standing position. I stand there for a hot minute gathering my bearings making sure I won’t get dizzy. When I felt sturdy on my feet, I slowly took a painful, tentative step towards the bathroom. We spent what felt like an eternity walking slowly towards the bathroom, when finally, we made it. Leah opened the door and led me to the toilet seat. She helped me pull down my shorts and underwear, helping me sit down. After helping me, she went to stand by the bathroom door. I looked at her feet and asked her quietly, “Can you step out and close the door? I can’t use the bathroom with someone watching me.” “Fine!”, She exasperated while walking out of the room and closing the door. After she closed the door, I let myself relax so that I could relieve myself. I sat there for a minute or two before I felt that my bladder was empty. I grabbed some toilet paper to clean myself. Once I was clean, I lifted myself off the toilet, when I was finally up and I felt stable standing, I pulled up my underwear and shorts. This whole process was difficult and very painful, but I did it successfully and can bare the pain for the most part. Before I called for Leah, I wanted to try and walk a little bit to see if I can. So, I decided to try to walk around in the bathroom. I went from the toilet to the bathtub, which was all maybe six steps. It wasn’t a full walk as I still had to lean on the bathroom sink to help alleviate the pain of hobbling around on my legs. I needed to make sure I could make do with the pain before I attempted my escape. This is just part of the steps I need to take so I have a better chance of getting out of this house. Now I am confident that I can at least hobble out of the house. I heard Leah knocking on the door a few minutes later, “Are you ready? If so, I am coming in.” “Yes, Ma’am. You can come in. I am already standing.” I told her. Leah opened the door, coming to my left side to hold my arm and led me back to the bed, “Now you stay here and eat your breakfast. I will be back for your tray here in an hour.”, she declared and left the room. I watched her walk out slightly closing the door. I looked at my tray of food and I saw that Leah made me two sausage patties, scrambled eggs, two pieces of wheat toast, a cup of applesauce, and a small glass of milk. I am not very hungry but for me to get out of here I need as much energy as I can get. So, I slowly ate my food till most of it had been eaten. After getting done eating, I ended up dozing off. I woke up to Leah coming into the room, picking up the breakfast tray, “You did good. Now you rest a bit more so you can be ready to get back to your daily chores tomorrow.” As she walked out of the room, I looked at the clock and it read 10:24 am. I slept for about two hours. I needed to get out of here now while Leah is distracted, and Jack is still out at work. I push the blanket off me and slowly sat up into a sitting position, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. I start to wiggle my toes and move my legs around, trying to see how much pain my body is in. Moving my lower extremities caused some pain but it is manageable. I then moved on to stimulating my upper body. My upper body hurt worse than my lower body but that’s probably because I took most of the hits there. Even this pain can be manageable to deal with. Now that I know what type of pain my body is in and that I can manage it, I must figure out how to get downstairs and out the door without alerting the guard dog. I guess I will figure out each problem as I come to it. I can’t waste any more time. I slowly pulled myself up off the bed, into a semi-standing position, steadying myself as a small fit of dizziness hit me. As I felt steadier on my feet, I started to shuffle towards the bedroom door. Once I had reached the door, I took a moment to catch my breath and rest. My and Jack’s bedroom is the last door at the end of the hall. I have about three feet of hallway before I make it to the stairs. I took another breath and entered the hallway placing my hands against the wall, shuffling slowly moving towards the stairs. It took me a couple of minutes to finally reach the stairs but once I did, I reached across the hallway towards the oak banister. Sliding down to sit on the top of the stairs, so that I can go down the stairs on my butt. Once I sat down, I waited and listened to see if Leah had heard me yet. I waited a few bated breaths, but I didn’t hear anything, so I proceeded to go down the steps slowly. I take one step at a time down the ten or so but as I am about three steps from the bottom, the step that I am on gives a small creek. I held my breath waiting for Leah to come running out of the kitchen to force me back to the bedroom, but I didn’t hear anything besides the music that was blaring in the kitchen. Letting my breath out, I finished the last few steps grabbing the top of the banister with both hands to hoist myself up off the stairs. I groaned in pain grinding my teeth as to keep myself from screaming out loud. I have come too far for her to find me. I am struggling with standing, looking at the front door that is not even three feet in front of me. I focused on that off-white door, urging myself to stand up. I am so close to my freedom! On each side of the door there are windows that are the same height as the door with a half moon window above the door. I can see cars driving past. My freedom is so close! With one last push, I am finally standing and start walking the few feet to the door. I ripped open the door. Throwing myself out the door. I looked both ways as I went outside, trying to find any car coming down the street. We live in the lower upper-class neighborhoods. There are always cars coming and going. I looked to the right and a black Grand Wagoner coming down the road. I hurriedly shuffled my way down the sidewalk and into the street, jumping in front of the vehicle. The car screeches to a stop and a man steps out of the vehicle. Before passing out I see a gorgeous man coming towards me.
