Dr. Blackfire, or Kaname, came back over to the bed, “Don’t think of anything else more. Just relax and try to heal. You have gone through quite the ordeal.” “Thank you, uh Kaname, For getting me here to the hospital even though you didn’t know anything about me.” Kaname nodded his head once and said, “There is no reason to thank me. I wouldn’t change what I did for anything.” After saying that he turned around and left the room, leaving me to my own thoughts. What am I going to do now that I am out from under Jack? I did not think this through very well. All I wanted was to get away from him. I guess the first step is trying to find a shelter to stay in for a little while. Then I will need to get a job of some sort. I will ask Nurse Paula, when she comes in, if she knows about any shelters nearby. I would just look up the information on my own but I left my phone at the house and I don’t have access to a computer at the moment. I feel stupid for forgetting my phone but I guess Jack can’t use it to track me then. That’s what I would have thought if I hadn’t found out that he had put a microchip tracker in my arm. All of sudden a sharp throbbing pain went through my body, as I groaned out loud in pain. My heart rate spikes up to the point that my breathing is harsh and ragged. I wanted to curl up in a ball as what felt like all my muscles spasmed all at once, but my body wouldn’t allow it. Next thing I know Nurse Paula is in my room trying to talk to me but I couldn’t register anything besides the extreme pain I am in. Nurse Paula administers something into my IV, as to what I can assume is pain medication. Soon I can feel whatever she had administered started working. Slowly my muscles started relaxing and the pain was receding. My heart rate starts to even out and my breathing is slowing down. “There you go, Hun. That's it just relax and let the medication work.”, Nurse Paula says soothingly. Taking deep breaths, I said softly, “Thank you.” She smiles softly at me, saying, “You’re welcome.” “What happened?” “I think your pain was severe enough to cause muscle spasms, which happened because we were not watching your pain. I am sorry that we allowed you to feel that much pain.”, she responds, “I will be going to get Dr. Blackfire.” I catch her arm as she turns to leave, “I have a couple of questions!” “Yes?” “Do you know of any women's shelters near the hospital or jobs that are hiring?” She looks at me quizzically, asking, “Why do you want to know that?” “I need to start planning my next steps for my life.”, I responded, “I left the house with nothing besides the clothes I had on, which I don’t even know where they are.” “Um…they were…uh…cut off. When you came into the Emergency Room we needed to get the clothes off you before we could treat you so we had to cut them off.”, Nurse Paula says, a little bit hesitant. “Wait what!”, I yelled. She looks at me a little panicked, “We will find you some new clothes when you get discharged but that is not even for a while yet. Your injuries are severe and will take a while to heal.” “How long is a while?”, I ask. “I don’t know how long, it could be months before you are fully healed enough to leave the hospital. Whoever tried to patch you up didn’t do a very good job. You have internal injuries that can cause bleeding on the inside, a minor concussion, several broken ribs, partially healed right arm break, so many more bruises, and other severe injuries.”, Nurse Paula lists off most of my injuries. Probably hoping that I would come to understand the extent of my injuries. “Oh” is all I respond with as I didn’t know how to process what I was just told. How was I supposed to help myself if I am stuck in the hospital for who knows how long? “You rest now dear. When you wake, I will have Dr. Blackfire come and talk to you about your treatment plan and how we can help you in the meantime.”, she says matter of factly, “You need to get all the rest you can to help you heal.” “Okay, I will rest for just a bit but I need to figure out my next steps. I need to figure out how to get clothes, a phone, and food while I am here.”, I said. She looks at me with a smile on her face, saying, “As for clothes you are stuck in a hospital gown for just a while longer till your wounds are healed more. A phone can wait a while longer too, it’s not an immediate necessity. Then Food is free while you are a patient here. You are actually stuck on a bland nutritional diet for about a week, as you are underweight and we need to get your stomach used to food before we start feeding you other foods.” I sighed frustratingly and pouted a bit, saying, “Fine, we will do it your way.” Nurse Paula laughs at me, “Glad to know that I won that round. Now you get some rest.” She turns around and leaves the room, closing the door softly. I didn’t want to go to sleep yet. I wanted to figure out my next steps but I could feel my eyes drooping in sleepiness. My last thought before I drifted off to sleep was that I needed access to a phone right away.
