Chapter 1
See how time flies Shekainah said as she packed her stuffs ready for her exams
She bumped into someone when she was going through her phone.
“I’m sorry she said”
There was no reply
“Here you go “ a lady stretched forth her hand.
“Thank you”replied Shekainah she wore her lense to gain back her sight.
“I’m sorry I bumped into you” Shekainah apologised.
“No you didn’t I saw u here fetching for ur glasses.
The lady said and left.
“Then who was that?” Shekainah thought
Two hours later
Shekainah couldn’t forget what happened at the exam hall when her paper was ceased for no reason.
With tears rolling down her cheeks as this was a promise she had made to her self to pass this exam since it was a stepping stone to her career.
She came back to herself when her phone rang.
She tried answering but it ended.
Wiped her tears to put on her lense, to her surprise it was a call from her father
That was strange Her father wasn’t like this.
She breathed heavily and waited for a while since she didn’t want him to realize she was crying.
She called back and there was no answer! She kept on several times but there wasn’t.
That was strange…… this was unlike of her father.
“Maybe he is busy…” she muttered and threw herself on the bed in her room.
She woke up from a message notification
“Ow, I slept off” she yawned and took her phone
There was no missed call from her dad… her heart began beating heavily
There was another pop of message on the phone
“Be yourself!!”
That was it.
This message had appeared two times from the same number.
It was an unknown number….. Shekainah was frightened she called the number but wasn’t reachable.
What was happening…. She checked her time and it was 9:50pm.
It was really late and she had no choice than to rush back home.
The road to the house wasn’t a safe one but she had no choice
The knock on the gate was ignored for the first time
“Where’s this security?” Shekainah questioned looking around
After several knocks she heard someone opening the door.
She relaxed and took a step backwards.
“Who are you?” She asked the security man asked at the same point.
Shekainah glanced at him and tried to walk pass him but she was denied the access
“I asked who you are and you just want to get in!” The security exclaimed
“I should be the one asking you! What are you doing in my house? “ Fl questioned angrily
“Your house?” The security looked at her weirdly and giggled
Shekainah was messy with her glasses and bag.
“What shows this is your house? Where’s your ID?”asked the security
“Excuse me! How dare you? Where’s Max?” Fl questioned
“Who’s Max?”
“The security here,” replied Shekainah
“I don’t know who u are talking about all I know is you are not entering.” Replied the security
“Wait till my father gets here!” She threatened.
The security burst out in laughter.
She took her phone and dialed her Father’s number but there was no answer.
“What’s going on!”
“This proves to me you are an imposter get out of here before I throw you out!”
She walked to the gate and began banging the door as hard as she could.
The security came out to push her away when he heard a voice from inside asking who it was.
The security rushed inside… he came back and asked Shekainah to come in.
“I will make sure you are fired for this humiliation!” She voiced out and rushed inside.
She saw a woman approaching her with a weird look
At the first sight Shekainah couldn’t believe her eyes she thought her eyes were deceiving her from afar.
She moved closer and she was surprised at what she saw
“Pearl!” she yelled with mixed feeling.
“Welcome back…” replied Pearl
“I’m sorry for bothering you Pearl.” Shekainah apologized
“For what?”
“ I’m sure my dad called you to come here when I wasn’t able to answer his call.”replied Shekainah with emotional pain.
“Don’t worry about that my sister..” Pearl smiled
Shekainah smiled back and asked they should go inside.
“Uuhhmmm I think we should wait for my mother…” Pearl said
“Your mother? Was it necessary to bring her along? Oh am sorry okay I owe you a lot.” Shekainah hugged her tightly.
She stepped back when she saw Mrs Jenni coming.
“Hello ma’am..” she greeted but there was no response
She felt Mrs Jenny might be tired or mad at her for not answering her father’s call.
“I’m sorry Mrs Jenny, I was very…..”
“We are sorry for not informing you since everything was in a rush…” Mrs. Jenny interrupted
Pearl looked at Shekainah with shame
“What do you mean?” She asked when she saw the mood swing of her best friend.
“ I can explain Shek…”
“Shhhh.. let me handle this!” Mrs Jenny stopped.
“What is going on here….”
Shekainah shouted
“You should never shout at your step mother! That is rude!” Mrs Jenny exclaimed
“My what….!!!!!!” Shekainah exclaimed.
“Yes, Sheky am your step sister now… you have always wanted a sister right?” Pearl questioned with a fake smile
“This can’t be it!
Where’s my father?” Shekainah asked panting
There was absolute silence between the two
“Where’s my Father!?” She questioned angrily
“That is why you need to calm down…. Because your father is no more.” Mrs Jenny answered
“Hahahahahahah…..” Shekainah paused and look at the two.
She burst out in laughter again and walked to Pearl she grabbed her dress and looked her in the eyes
“Where’s my father!?” She roared
“He’s dead!” Pearl replied in pain
Mrs Jenny called the security to rescue her daughter after her attempt failed
“ I need to see my father now!” Shekainah couldn’t control her tears and there was no sign of empathy in Pearl and her moms eyes
“I’m sorry your father is at the morgue and from what happened you are not his biological daughter!! which means you owe no property.” Mrs Jenny informed angrily
“Tell me this is a joke! What the hell is going on here?”
Pearl rushed inside and came with a brown envelope she handed it over to her friend.
She opened it and it was the will of her father and a report which stated she wasn’t a daughter of her Father, Mr. Kish.
“No! This is framed. You are doing this to claim everything my parents work hard for…..! Tell me where my dad is I need to see him.” Shekainah insisted but there was no chance
With a clap,
Shekainah saw her bags beside her
“And what’s this?!” She asked wiping her tears
“Did you read the reports?” Asked Mrs Jenny
Shekainah was quiet as she couldn’t control her tears rolling down her cheeks
“You are not his daughter so you have no right to stay in this house! That was his last words before dying… your mom was a cheat, you are lucky you have attained education to this level so you can find a job or something, I’m sure you still have your credit cards and account cards. Well I decided not to block that because that’s the only thing u have got. I’m a good step mother right? I know.”
The weather was getting colder at that moment
“What are you implying?”asked Shekainah.
“Is simple…. Leave my house!”
