Chapter Forty-ThreeSix hours and a half later and two similar dives, I unlocked the door to my apartment. Everything was quiet, save for the low murmur of the TV. Zantry lay on the sofa, one arm over his face, his breathing steady and slow. “How'd it go?” He asked, lowering his arm to look at me. “We didn't find anyone,” I said, perching on the adjacent couch. “It was loud, stinky, and a total waste of time.” I leaned back and closed my eyes. Lights flashed behind my lids, raucous conversations and the snap of pool sticks ricocheted in my brain without mercy.
