“Hey….stop Coco, can you take your pouch of my dog? “Ooh Sorry ma’am, sometimes these dogs just do their thing,” he said. Why would you allow it? I didn’t ask for my dog to be crossed, don’t want her getting laid or pregnant. There it goes again! Can you please call off your dog? “Okay ma’am, hey Max come here,” he said as he called off his dog. He introduced himself as Jeff and handed me his complimentary card. Giving that demure vibe of a gentle, caring guy. “That’s how they act at the beginning, the smooth operators, wait until they get yo,u,” I said to myself. He said he is into fashion and does professional photography as a hobby, but I must say he looked elegant. “Maybe you could call me anytime you need a good photo for memories, trust me am good at it and I will do it free of charge for you,” he said as he gave me those charming smiles. I was already carried and smiling, when I reminded myself of the heartbreak I was just healing from, it was a guy just like him who put me through the mess am in. I reached my complimentary card and gave him, in case he felt he was the only one who had something working for himself. He looked at my card, and read. “Jennifer Luso, hair professional, Phone no 901764…..” he mumbled, as I turned and left. Ring …Ring …..ring , He called my phone there and then. “Hello,” “Hello’, it’s me Jeff, my dog just laid your dog.” I turned and looked at him as he smiled at me waving. “Maybe we could support these Little guys by letting them know each other, I think they are a perfect match.” I laughed at his proposal and said okay we will see how it goes. And that was how it all started. The next day he sent me photos of his dog mounting my dog, photos he made while I was telling him to call back his dog. They looked good with vivid colors and then I saw his caption. “This could be Us.” “But is not us,” I replied to his chat, with a smiling emoji. Next, he buzzed my phone. “Hello Jenny, I’ve got this green reserve relaxation camp just for dog owners like you and me, can we go for the sake of the dogs?”Mr Jeff smooth talker said. “Are you asking me out?”I asked him. “Well ….., technically yes Jenny, please don’t say no” he added. I was already smiling but I didn’t want him to notice, didn’t want him seeing me as cheap. “And when is this gonna be? Lover Boy.”I asked him “Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, it’s in batches,” he said. “Okay I will see how tomorrow is, I told him. I knew I needed the distraction, Oscar and my mother had given me enough mental stress. I needed this escape. “What’s up, girl? What’s the spark? You kind of excited, anything I should know?”Carol my bestie and roomie asked. “Hmm, I’ve got gist for you, I’ve been busy lately.” Carol is my backbone for now, since Mama started her nagging and negative attitude towards me because I told her am done with Oscar, my ex-boyfriend, Carol has been the one sustaining me. I dated Oscar for 7 years hoping he was gonna turn out a better man and maybe we could tie the knot but I was wrong, through these years he has been cheating and dishonesty. He would always beg me after being caught only to do the worst. Mama liked him and wanted him for me because according to her my late dad and his dad were close friends, and in fact, I was betrothed to him from when we were kids. Coming from Mexican roots, both families’ way of life matched, but Oscar still wanted the s*x and ills of life, he wasn’t ready for anything serious. I mean, this is the 21st century, and these rules and norms don’t work anymore, I have a lot to look to, lots of good ahead, then just hurting myself for a guy that doesn’t give a f**k. We Hispanics have our way of life, it has always been, make the dollars, leave the hood, the guys do all sorts of illicit activities just to make the money, and the girls often do drugs, prostitution and all sorts of things to meet up. For me I wanted a simple life, to fall in love and be happy. Oscar was already rolling with the other boys in the hood, selling drugs and getting high on it, he made good money from his activities, but that wasn’t the kind of life I wanted. Most girls in the neighborhood wanted him, a young handsome Hispanic guy with the dollars, but I didn’t want that. I tried talking to him several times before deciding to face my challenges head-on, “Let him go and give myself time to heal from the heartbreak that would follow.” Staying over at Carol’s apartment was one of the best decisions I did take, her neighborhood was calm and better than where we came from. Carol worked as a waitress in one of the 5-star hotels in the high-rise neighborhoods of New York. Her work agency helped her secure the apartment close to her workplace, she is also Hispanic like me and wanted a better life than what we had in the hoods, after losing his brothers to gang wars between rival groups she decided to move and here we are not doing bad. “We found love, Coco and I Coco found love for us,” I said giggling as Carol looked at me confused. “How? How did Coco your dog find love?” she said. “you know you are not a serious person, can you get serious for once and talk to me” she continued. “Ok, you haven’t been home for the past two days now, the day before yesterday I was out walking Coco, and this guy’s dog saw Coco and mounted her, I don’t know maybe Coco was on her heat because the submission was total, Coco submitted to his dog and I was like hey stop, but the young man was busy taking pictures of the dogs, when he finally called off his dog he gave me his card and said he is a fashion designer, trust me I found my card and gave him too, so he knows this chick here is not some kind of a loser. He looked good smelled good and seemed caring, then yesterday he sent me this.”I showed Carol my chat with Jeff. “What a love story, am happy you are at least trying to move on girl,” Carol said. “Be sure not to f**k it up! She added.
