Chapter 16: Tribe

* The group had been captured by ... cavemen, no actually it was much more complex than that. It is as if these people had not had access to any civilization since the start of the disaster. They lived in abandoned buildings, wrecked cars, and mostly used wooden arches. Not being able to move properly Chloe had been put in a wheelchair. As they passed through the mountain camp more and more people turned to them. Midas was seized with fascination with their way of life even more primitive than in the most lost place. Yet everyone seemed so comfortable. "The hunters" as they were called brought the strangers in front of a mobile home which appeared to be their leader's house. The man in question on the way out walking slowly. He had a feather headdress like the Indians and his skin was tanned, his hair was black and his body was covered in tattoos *. -Hello my name is OleK, and I am the leader of this tribe. I would like to speak directly to the leader of your group. * He said *. It's you ? * Clark stayed back and Chloe stepped forward. Olek let out a surprise "Oh" *. -Excuse the "boss" of this group. -Your men attacked us without cause and damaged our equipment. *She says*. -It is true that the instruction is to scare foreigners but we never attack them. You must have run into another tribe. -What because there are other weirdos like you? * Louis asked *. -Monitor your language. * Said a guard *. -Calm. * Said the chief *. It is surely the Raiders, a band of pillars who came to settle there less than a year. They rob people and shamelessly kill. -I see, we won't have to apologize for those we got stuck in then. * Said Clark *. -We will inspect your belongings to see if you are carrying anything dangerous and then they will be returned to you. * One of the hunters walked over to Clark and tried to grab his gun, but he caught his wrist and stared at him. Chloe nodded at him and he agreed with a sigh *. -Well we leave it to you. * Said Chloe *. -Geis will guide you. * Said Geis was a man of medium height with an iroquoi hairstyle like that of the Vikings. He had blue tattoos on his shoulders and his bow was made of metal. -Follow me. * He said *. I'll show you your quarters. * Their neighborhood in question was an old dilapidated trailer or rats had taken up residence. She was at the end of the camp watched by two guards. What was supposed to be a guest room looked mostly like a prison *. -Very well here we are housing that's already it. * Said Chloe *. -We are also disarming. * Seconded Clark *. -They are more numerous than us what would that be? * She asked *. You have to know how to be a diploma in life. -Because you think you have managed to negotiate something. * Said Siren *. * The blonde lay down on the sofa and put her boots on the next table. The others stared at her amazed that she was relaxing so much *. -What are you talking about ? -Bah the obvious. It is a tribe of humans led by evos. 100 to 200 asshole max. The guys with the wooden bows are normal guys and the guys with the steel bows are their elite. -Wow wait how do you know all that? * Louis asked *. - Guy stay focus. * Did she say falling asleep *. -I dream or she has just pawned? * Midas rummaged through the refrigerators but found there only expired canned food *. -That's one way of treating guests. * He said, shaking the can *. Hospitality is dead. -Just like respect. * Said Clark *. Until further notice these guys are our enemies. The raiders all had steel arches, that's the problem. * The soldier sat cross-legged and was about to burn himself a cigarette when Chloe stopped him *. -Not here. -You are right. * He sighed *. * He left without complaining more. As soon as he stepped outside the guards pointed their spears in his direction *. -Return to the trailer. -Calmos I just wanted to take a shot. * He took out his pack of cigarettes but the guard snatched it from the ground before crushing it. Clark remained silent a little stunned before staring him straight in the eye with a killer look *. -Return to the trailer. * Insisted the guard *. - What do you think you did there bastard? * Clark said *. -Go back to the f*****g .... * At the other end of the village Geis was gathering in front of a sort of totem. Right behind was the huge red stone, the subject of all the quarrels. He was in the middle of meditation when a kid came to see him breathless *. -Grand-brother Geis .... The foreigners ... They .... * The young man got up and ran very quickly to the caravan. When he arrived the two guards were on the ground with their faces totally bleeding as Clark smoked a cigarette. Without questioning he drew his bow in rage and was about to shoot him, but Clark raised the bodies like shields to defend himself *. -You coward. Dare to use corpses as a shield. - Must say that I have them under the "Hand". * He laughed *. -You fiend. They are dead they will not protect you ... -Who told you they are? Can't you hear mister superman? They are still breathing. * Geis couldn't do anything. There was no indication that he was bluffing. The old chief arrived *. -What is going on ? -Chef it is indamissible. We offer them the Gîte and they behave like savages. -I'll stop you right away Tarzan, you're the savage. * Chloe got out of the trailer angry *. -But what's going on here? * She asked *. -In your opinion. * Said jaded Clark *. Angry Grand Chief Lama or whatever, you say we are your guests but we are housed in a slum guarded by guards. To my knowledge it's called f**k-up. * He squeezed the guards harder and harder making Geis anxious to bring him down *. -Haaa, I'm sorry for this unfortunate incident. You are free to come and go in the camp, but please release our men. - This is reasonable. * He said throwing them to the ground *. I'll go get our weapons. * He walked away and disappeared into the camp. The others watched with hateful eyes, Geis the first. Having said that, old Olek remained calm *. -Sorry about all that. * Said Chloe *. -No it is I who beg you to excuse me, he is entirely right. To make me forgive, I would ask you to come and participate in our feast this evening. -Free food, do I have a reason to refuse? * She said smiling *. * In the evening the savages shared the meal among themselves. Most of them came from hunting animals from the surrounding area. They were dancing and strutting about the square which left the others confused *. -Our village was built around a meteorite. * Says Olek *. It is she who brings us strength and stability -Where I come from it only brings destruction and chaos. *She says*. But hey, not everyone has the mental strength to live in seclusion like that. * Elsewhere Gloria who was walking in the camp was totally fascinated by the camp. Children playing without spending time on smartphones, half-naked women dancing unshaven men like farmers of yesteryear *. -It looks like a thousand years ago. * She laughed *. * During her visit she bumped into Midas, who was also on the mop. The young man was squatting next to a child who was drawing on the ground *. -So this is your metal bird? -Yes Yes. -It's called an airplane. * Said Gloria who had just arrived *. -And don't worry, he's not going to eat you. -But my daddy told me to go and hide if I saw one in the sky. -Really ? -Yes really. * Said Geis *. * He nodded to the child who left. Midas and Gloria stood up and stared at him *. - Stop polluting the mind of this child. -He does not know the technology is cow. -And that's good. We are trying to build a zero society deprived of the vices of humanity. Internet, technology, alcohol. -Is that also why you don't have firearms? * Gloria asked *. You do what a monster shows up. -The meteorite energy repels monsters, and firearms are the greatest plague of this century. * Midas began to laugh softly at him which annoyed Geis *. -What's funny? * He raised his head and resumed a serious expression *. - Sorry I didn't mean to. Come on Gloria, are you coming? * The party continued all n ight, except that the same night things were happening in the shadows. In the middle of the night silhouettes appeared between the trees, becoming more and more numerous. It was the Raiders slowly approaching the camp. And even further behind them two figures observed the situation. It was Clark and Siren who both had bows and arrows in their hands *. -They really took the hook. * Said Clark *. - Obviously they have bitten. * Supported Siren *. It remains to be seen how our pacifist village will come out. -No time to play spectators we'll just take what we need. The rest is superfluous. - In the end you are less boring than you seems. *She says*. * The two accomplices disappeared again in the dark * *To be continued*
