Chapter 22: Crime

1905 Words
* Violence has always been part of this world, it exists and is present in each of us. A man is strong or weak depending on the degree of violence he has witnessed in his life. This little girl, for example, has always tried to live far from violence, yet she has always been part of her daily life. Already long before the disaster she witnessed the victims caused by gang wars in her neighborhood. In order to preserve her sanity she closed her eyes to it all. Seeing a man lying on her way to school was normal. She said to herself that this was the fate reserved for African Americans ... She had it all wrong *. - Line up in a row and faster than that. * Shouted a guard *. * During the great catastrophe everyone fled to what today was called the "metropolis" to escape the monsters and the infected. An area controlled and regulated by the army where there were neither infected nor demons. The national guard carried out rigorous controls even if it meant putting everyone naked to check for the slightest trace of bites. The eyes were the detector of the time *. -Please let me go. * Asked a man *. Or let my daughter pass. -Back I said I won't repeat it. * Shouted the guard *. * One of the soldiers was treading on the man's bag while the other held it squarely *. -What are you doing stop .... * He pushed the guard and threw himself on his bag. It is not known why he reacted like this, maybe this bag was more important than his life. Still, he took a bullet in the back. The little one in tears threw herself on the body of her inert father. One of the guards aimed at her and she turned to him with a high-pitched cry. Panicked, the soldier shot her down. Gabriella had witnessed the absurdity of the scene, the ease with which these two had died. -What is happening here ? -These two drove her crazy, they had to be calmed down. -Avoid wasting your ammunition it is our most precious resources. -Yes, sergeant. * The little girl was shocked at the coolness he had shown in slaughtering this man. And his boss didn't care about the slightest civil damage. From there she understood, it had nothing to do with ethnicity, race or color. If you don't meet the criteria for the refuge, you were dead. Year 2021, martial law had been established, the army had taken control of the country or at least what was left of it, access to certain areas had been regulated, food rationed. It might seem hard but it was the price to pay for living under the blue sky. No, it was the price to pay for his survival and the little one understood it. She understood very quickly that it was the law of nature * -Give everything you've got if you don't want me to screw you up. * She said, threatening a man with a knife *. * The man was disabled, his legs probably eaten by a monster. The perfect target *. -Rather die. -If you wish. * Ordinary people living in the lower quarter did not hesitate to kill each other, to attack and rob each other. Crime was on the rise until the military police launched a major campaign of repression that spared no one. Gabriella Johnson, then 13 years old, was arrested and placed in foster care. The same year she was recovered by her father and her brother who had survived by a miracle. After that life became almost normal. A government was established and the people within the blue territory could live quietly as before. They had access to food, clean water, education and work. Year 2030 the Johnson family now live in a comfortable area of the metropolis *. -I'm going shopping. *She says*. -See you later. * Said his father *. * Mr. Johnson was a handyman so the machines he knew how to do. He was sometimes solicited by the soldiers to repair one or two vehicles. His shop had a certain reputation and business was doing well. Gabi had resumed school as best she could. Only downside, his brother who was an anti-government activist. That day when she had just done the shopping she went to the local bar where she had made what looked like friends. She found her brother there in the middle of a meeting with his anti-system peers. -We want freedom but the government keeps us locked up here like animals. They use the apocalypse excuse to stupefy us and dictate our conduct. And during this time they keep all the resources. We want equality. * Cries of anger resounded in the bar but Gaby remained indifferent going to sit at the counter. It had been like this for a while, but the government had taken no official action against them *. -The same thing ? * Asked the Bartender *. -Yeah they get me drunk. -No more need to serve then. * he mocked the bartender *. * He brought her a glass of Whiskey which he filled halfway. He added two ice cubes that Gaby amused herself by spinning *. -If you keep letting them have their meeting here it will hurt you. -It's nice to worry about me but I know what I'm doing. -I'm inquiring about the bar not for you. - Kindness is dead. * He said with disdain *. What about Tyler? * Tyler came over to sit down and patted her on the shoulder. He was a young of medium height with frizzy hair with the sides of the head shaved. He wore a black jacket like his sister and jeans *. -How are you sis. Beautiful day, is not it ? -Yeah beautiful day. * She said jaded *. -You know you should come to our meetings you would understand ... -I already said NO. * Did she cut it off *. You're not even a leader. Just a pawn in the game of insane people. -I forbid you to say that. How can you talk like that? Did you forget how the current government treated us when ... - f**k you. * She said angry *. And reassure you, I forgot nothing. You were with the old man, he gave you his shares. I was alone and I had to improvise to survive. And today you have your 3 meals a day and you are complaining? * She drained her glass dry and left the bar with the groceries. Tyler got out and caught up with his sister who was visibly angry *. - Wait ... Gaby don't get upset. -I'm not angry .... * she shouted *. * Their argument didn't make them notice the Humvys pulling up in front of the bar. In a few minutes gunshots rang out and tear gas was launched. Gaby ran to shelter behind a building, pulling Tyler by the hand *. - Close the perimeter. * Ordered the sergeant *. - Damn those army dogs found us. -Shut your damn Mouth Tyler. Shut your Mouth. * Tyler pulled a pistol out of his jacket which surprised Gaby *. - Where did you get that stupid motherfucker? -We must be able to defend ourselves in the event of .... * Gaby snatched the gun from him and punched him well in the jaw. He looked up and saw his sister's eyes fill with anger *. -But you understand nothing at nothing stupid. -Gaby? * He wondered *. I.... * She hid him in one of the garbage cans next door. One of the soldiers came up and pointed his rifle at her *. -Hands up. * The young teenager put up no resistance put the weapon on the ground. The guard knocked hher down with the back of his gun. Gaby was arrested in place of her brother and taken to court. She was found guilty but there was still a possibility of redemption *. -The prison or the army. * Faced with this choice, most of them answered *. -Rather die in prison than end up as an army dog. * But Gaby she saw an opportunity. It is true, from the beginning they were the soldiers who in fact oppressed them. In this world of chaos those who had the guns were the masters. So even if it meant choosing a camp, she decided to become the oppressor. And the army was a good fit for a tomboy like her *. -There, you know everything. * Did she explain *. - Wait, did you go to prison for your little brother? -My silly little brother. * Did she specify *. I didn't even want to hear from him anymore. - Anyway you're here for reasons even more vicious than mine. -Hey who didn't want to be the bad guy in a video game? -You score a point. * A key sounded and the kids saw Jane open the dungeon door *. -Alright miss terrors, you are free. * Surprisingly, they did not move from their cell as if they had heard nothing *. -You are blocked or .... * Gaby raised her hand which surprised the sergeant *. - Permission to stay here, Sergeant. -What? -It's less noisy here and no one will come to piss us off. * Supported Inori *. And then there is no risk of attacking other cadets. * Jane laughed surprised at their request. Having said that, she fully understood their reasons. However*. -GET OFF MY JAIL. * They're off again for practical training to climb a snow-capped mountain again. It was cold to the bones but the recruits were holding on. Inori came first to the top where Calamity * was waiting for him. -So Montana you Mount Ana? -But who is this .... -THIS IS SPARTAAA. -She is cold with her my word. * Said a cadet *. -No you're wrong, it's preferential treatment. * Replied a young with ashy hair *. * Inori found himself taking the plunge except this time Gaby grabbed his hand. The brunette raised her head and saw the still serious gaze of her companion *. - Watch out or you'll take us all. * Inori suddenly laughed as she hung over the void *. -What makes you laugh? -No Montana. Mount Ana I just understood . -I don't see what's funny. -Drop it. * She said, getting back into position *. * Once at the top she found Jane waiting for her, staring at her watch *. -I got it now. Montana, Mount Ana. Ana Montana. -Ah it looks like you have the sauce. * The two women laughed even harder until they ran out of breath. Jane put her hand on Inori's shoulder and stared into her eyes *. -SPARTAAAAA. * She then turned her gaze on Gaby who had helped her earlier *. -Why are you looking at me like that? Ah no no I forbid you .... Sfx: Leonidas * The two girls found themselves suspended above the void just maintained by cables. Their faces were tight and anger mounted on their faces *. -When we get out of here we'll kill him. * Said Gaby jaded *. -Yeah. * End of chapter *.
