16 Devil’s Backbone State ForestSusan Fuller woke with a tremendous pounding in her head. Her mouth and throat were cotton dry, her eyes bleary. She tried to move, but her head threatened to explode. It had been a long time since she had a hangover like this. What was worse, she had no idea where she was. Somewhere close by, birds were singing. A soft wet breeze caressed her face. The scent of cedar and fresh rain soothed her aching head. But there was also a faint smell like overripe fruit. She waited for her eyes to adjust to the dim light while her fingers investigated.
