Episode 12 - Ultimate

Aerolith arrived at the Sparring Stadium and found her classmates. She approached them but some avoided her. Her face frowned but she knew she had to be strong. She just sat on a corner by herself thinking about her Ultimate.

Aerolith: What should I do? I doubt I can use this so called Ultimate today. Although I'm fine, I don't think my body can handle that much stress twice today.

Classmate: Hey! Why is Mr. Aerolith's princess sulking alone in this corner. I should be the one in this situation.

Aerolith knew the voice that spoke to her so she didn't bother looking up and just replied.

Aerolith: You're very nosy, you know that Mr. Montaire?

Maki: Woah. I didn't know you hate me that much.

Aerolith: You just figured it out now?

Maki: Yeah. (sigh) As a matter of fact, I guess my concern wasn't needed at all. Seems you're fine enough to handle things on your own here. I better focus what's up ahead then. (leaves)

Aerolith looked up to Maki when he said that because she thought it wouldn't hurt his feelings. When she was about stop Maki, their teacher arrived.

Teacher: Hello everyone! I'll be the one responsible for teaching you all about Ultimates. The name's Yang Yin. Silver Essence - Third Peak Stage. Wielder of the Unique Magic, Chaos Magic. I'm a Fallen Angel by the way. Meaning my parents are both an Angel and a Demon. You can see the evidence by showing my wings.

Mr. Yin showed everyone his wings. There were for pairs of wings and each one of them alternating from pure white feathery wings to a spooky purely dark bat-like wings. Everyone was in awe at the beauty of the wings of their teacher but they were more amazed by the fact that their teacher was one of the one hundred people in the world who is at Silver Essence.

Mr. Yin: Okay, staring time staring time's over. Let's start the class. I have a rough idea about your abilities because of the data that your previous teacher sent me. It's good to know that some of you are wielders of Unique Magic like me. Okay, so start things off, I'll start by enumerating the different colors of our Essences. First, we start at the Pink Essence as a baby. I'll not explain this much since it's already common sense. Then our Essence changes its color by itself as we grown old. It goes from Pink, Red, Red - Orange and finally, Orange - Red on your eighteenth birthday. Then, if we don't cultivate, our Essence will stay the same. We get to live our lives set by the Creator, if he's even real. We call this set duration, "lifespan". Lifespan differs from each race but the Human Race has the lowest lifespan, ranging from 70-90 years. So we, people who cultivate, can increase this lifespan by cultivating and ascending our Essence's Color. Since we are going against the Creator's law by forcefully extending our lifespan, we trigger our Creator's defensive mechanism in what we call Tribulation Ascension. This Tribulation Ascension will strike us powerful forces of nature in order to prevent us from Ascending and those who fail will either get injured or worst case scenario, die. But if you succeed, you Essence Color will Ascend and a huge amount of years will be added to your lifespan.

Sparks: Sir. Can I ask a question?

Mr. Yin: Sure. Go ahead.

Sparks: Is there a way to counter the attacks when you are going through your Tribulation Ascension?

Mr. Yin: Of course. Some use special artifacts to counter the attacks of the Tribulation Ascension. Some just train their body to withstand the attack. But the most expensive but also the safest way is to buy Color Ascension Pills from the market. Much better if you know an Alchemist skillful enough to make one for you. Color Ascension Pills costs about a trillion dorral each. (dorral = dollar in real life)

Everyone was shocked at the sheer price of a single Color Ascension Pill. Some of the students also made a face that meant that they admit defeat but Mr. Yin cheered them up.

Mr. Yin: I know it's expensive for you for now. But trust me, when you go outside and experience the world of Cultivators, you will realize that a trillion is only a small amount. And the Color Ascension Pills are only effective until the Violet Essence. Since I mentioned Violet Essence, I'll continue on the enumeration of the Essence Colors. So the last color I said was Orange - Red when you reach your eighteenth birthday but some cases like some cases of your classmates will still Ascend their Essence Color. But it will still stop without cultivation so cultivation is still needed.

So, next to the Orange -Red Essence is the Orange, Orange - Yellow, Yellow - Orange, Yellow, Yellow - Green, Green - Yellow, Green, Green - Blue, Blue - Green, Blue, Blue - Indigo, Indigo - Blue, Indigo, Indigo - Violet, Violet, Violet - Bronze, Bronze - Violet, Bronze, Bronze - Silver, Silver - Bronze, Silver, Silver - Gold, Gold - Silver, Impure Gold, and finally Gold Essence. Phew! That's a lot, huh?

Some of the student's head were aching because they didn't know that there were so many colors. Some of them got scared because every time they would try to ascend their Essence, they would have to face the Tribulation Ascension attack. And there are so many colors to boot. And again, Mr. Yin cheered them up.

Mr. Yin: Don't worry, you lot. I'll tell you a trade secret about the ascension of your Essence colors. While you are ascending your Essence Color, you can let someone fend off the attack of the Tribulation Ascension. But the person should be strong enough to defend it or that person will die. For example, if you're a Yellow Essence and is trying to breakthrough to Yellow - Green Essence, you should seek the help of a Green Essence person. Never seek the help of someone that has the same category color as you. Always seek the help of a person that has the next Essence Color of your own, or higher. Also this is where our Ultimate gets its power.

The word Ultimate suddenly peaked the students curious mind. Who could resist hearing the badass word Ultimate, right? They student paid full attention about what was the teacher going to say next.

Mr. Yin: I don't know if anyone of you heard the word Ultimate but Ultimate means our strongest ability. Upper Dan Tian stores Mental Force that influences the strength of our Special Skills. Middle Dan Tian stores Muscle Power that influences our Special Moves. And, the Lower Dan Tian that houses our Essence which influences our Ultimate's power. Remember, when you suddenly feel like you can ascend your Essence Color even if your Mental Force and Muscle Power is not at the required parameters yet, you should never ever try to trigger the Tribulation Ascension to ascend hastily. You just experienced the best example earlier, right?

Aerolith got embarrassed when Mr. Yin said that but Mr. Yin was able to notice the sudden change in the atmosphere and explained to everyone it's not a bad thing.

Mr. Yin: Everyone, no need to be wary of her. We all make mistakes. If you ask me, I'm glad that she experienced that mistake this early so that she won't make the same mistake twice when she becomes stronger. It's harder to survive the Tribulation Ascension the stronger you become. I can assure you that this won't happen to her a second time. But it will happen to you sooner or later if you're not careful. And, you guys don't know that her color ascension brought her a nice surprise. Am I right, Ms. Aerolith?

Everyone looked at each other thinking that maybe they were overreacting to what happened earlier. But they were still surprised about Aerolith having gained something from that incident.

Mr. Yin: According to the data Mr. Lavabo sent me, you should have learned your Ultimate, right?

Aerolith: I don't know if it's an Ultimate, sir.

Mr. Yin: Well, I am sure that it's an Ultimate since you fainted from severe fatigue after using it for the first time. You see, the stronger the Ultimate is, the greater the toll it takes on the user. And, if an Elf of your caliber was knocked out after using such an ability, it would mean that your Ultimate is quite powerful. And I'm also quite sure that even though you're looking all spiffy, you can't use that ability again today.

Aerolith: You're right, sir. Seems you guessed it right, I guess this is really my Ultimate. But I heard Nurse Aqua say that it is way too early for me to learn this move, why would I learn it now?

Mr. Yin: I understand Nurse Aqua's shock. Since normally, an Ultimate will be available to you once you're in the Green Essence. And I said available, not acquired. This is the first time that's happened that an Ultimate was learned early and innately too. Ultimates are obtained through your cultivation because it's your very own unique ability. For example, my Magic is called Chaos Magic. Chaos Magic is a combination of Divine and Nether Magic. These two Magics are polar opposites of each other, yet I'm able to use them with no problem at all. My Special Skill is called Nether Beam and my Special Move is called Divine Lightning Charge. Combine those two and I was able to make my Ultimate - Chaoticlysm. I use my Nether Beam not to hit at my enemy but to boost the destructive power of my Divine Lightning Charge by mixing the powers of my two abilities. That's why Ultimates take a huge toll on the user's body because although you are using one ability, this is equal to using two abilities at the same time. But here's the complicated part. Let's say your body has a total power of one hundred. When you use a Special Move, let's say your body needs to expend seventy of your power in order to use the Special Move. And you also need to expend seventy of your power when you use your Special Skill. But, if you're using your Ultimate, combining those two abilities would mean that your body would need to expend one hundred and forty power in order to use your Ultimate. So where will you get the extra forty? The answer is, none. You are still able to use your Ultimate but since your body doesn't have enough to power to execute it properly, you will faint after using it since you would be akin to a robot that has ran out of its battery.

Aerolith: So that's why I fainted then.

Mr. Yin: Yep. So your training for today class is to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of you Special Moves and Skills so that when the time comes that you need to train for your Ultimate, you won't have much difficulty. Undertood?

Everyone: Yes, sir!

Mr. Yin: Good! Since this is also the Sparring Stadium, you can also spar freely. Minor injuries are okay, but never seriously injure your partner.

Hugo: Will we also get Merits if we win, sir?

Mr. Yin: Nope. Your spar is not an official match but only for training. You need to proficiently learn about your abilities first before participating in an official sparring match.
