Rama shot four arrows, one pair towards the top of each of the two vertical planks. The fabric which covered them dropped away to expose the beautifully painted wood beneath. He shot four more arrows. Two of these broke the fastenings at each golden snake; the other two shot away the chains holding up the other plank. The two halves of the bridge fell down into position. The paintings on the wood showed scenes of Nila helping Rama build the bridge to Lanka.
