Chapter 59: Don't Be Shy

1242 Words
The woman went into the kitchen and started to prepare toasted bread with a fried egg padding. While preparing for breakfast, she was like a living robot. She was doing work but not totally paying attention to what she was doing. Her mind was full of absurd incidents that happened between her and the man recently. She seemed fine outside. Deep inside her, she was embarrassed and was troubled by what happened inside the bathroom as well as what happened last night. She found herself weird. She initially hated the man. However, she couldn't deny herself that she did not actually dislike the fact that the man was staying in the same house as hers. She indeed did not hate the presence of the man anymore. However, she discovered her emotions were suffocating her at the moment. It felt weird and she was afraid at the same time. She was afraid of her future feelings as she knew herself that she couldn't afford to get hurt once again. "Geneva, you're paranoid! Stop thinking about it. Stop thinking of him." Geneva scolded herself. She shook her head and focused on preparing breakfast. She first toasted three pairs of bread and fried an eggs. After frying, she stuffed the fried egg inside the toasted bread. After preparing for the breakfast, she also prepared three glasses of milk and served them on the table. The woman was passionately doing the cooking. She didn't know that she was watched by two pairs of crystal clear eyes. They were leaning their back against the door frame as they also both crossed their arms over their chests and crossed their legs into four positions. The father and son looked like models having a photoshoot and they were like a pair of twins, having similar poses and expressions— cold, stern, and distant. They were indeed a father and son. Chen Lei threw a sideways glance to his son. "Why don't you stay in the living room? Do you really need to guard her doing everything? Are you afraid she will disappear?" The kid did not say anything. He just spared a quick look to his father, lips curved downward. The father was a genius man. Although they did not interact much most of the time, he clearly knew his son. He knew clearly what his son was thinking even if he was not voicing out his thoughts. The man smirked. "I'm guarding her because she is sometimes clumsy. I'm bigger and older than you. If she needs anything, I can help and you can't. Besides, did you hear what she said? She is thinking of me, meaning she is missing me. I will stay here to make her feel I am by her side." The kid rolled his eyes and did not say anything. He then stood upright and began to make his way towards the woman. "Hey, where are you going?" The man held the kid's shoulder, stopping him from walking forward. "You can't go there. You just get well. You better go in the living room and wait for breakfast." The kid tilted his head and stared at his father provocatively. His eyes were expressing something to him. The man denied. He snorted, voice cold, face void of emotions. "Nonsense! Why would I be jealous of you? Look at me, I am better than you in every aspect. Besides, did I ever say I like her? Don't be ridiculous. Don't think you know me. I am your father. You're just my son." The kid nodded and pulled his father's hand off him and walked away, making his way towards the woman who coincidentally turned around and saw them. Stunned, she said, "You two have been long standing there? What are you guys doing?" Chen Lei raised a brow. "Someone is thinking of me. So I'm here to grant her such a wish." "Nonsense! President Chen, stop messing around. I don't have time to play with you. Oh right, you better eat breakfast and leave. I still have work later. I can't accompany a big figure like you." "Eat your breakfast?" Chen Lei pursed his lips. "Am I allowed to eat breakfast you prepared?" "What kind of question is that?" Chen Lei smirked, and the tone was sarcastic. "Who said that I don't deserve to eat the food in this house? Miss Sanchez, did you hit your head in the wall? Why did you suddenly behave like someone having amnesia?" Geneva pouted. "Hmmp, you should be glad that I invited you to have breakfast. Since you can't appreciate it, then don't eat. I won't have the habit of forcing a person as rich as you." "Really?" Geneva placed her hand on the kid's shoulder and smiled at him sweetly. "Darling, breakfast is ready. Ignore your father and let's have breakfast ourselves. Let him starve himself." The kid nodded without hesitation. He just cast an arrogant look to his father and turned his back at him. "What a traitor!" The man said to himself. As for the woman, she snubbed him completely. Geneva and the little kid were about to sit when a buzzer outside her apartment rang followed by a series of gentle knocks on the door. "Someone is here. Who could it be now?" Geneva said, frowning as she helped the kid take his seat on the dining table. "Eat your breakfast first, Darling. I'll go and answer the door." When Geneva made her way to the door, the man went before her. He was about to pull the door open when Geneva rushed towards him and stopped him, accidentally seizing his hand. The man glanced at her coldly. "What are you doing?" "Don't open it." Geneva said. "And why? Are you hiding from someone? Your ex?" "Nonsense! Shut up if you know nothing." "Alright. But before that, how long are you planning to hold my hand?" The man gestured his eyebrow and slowly lowered his sight on the doorknob. The woman followed his line of sight and she flinched when she realised she was holding his hand tightly. She let go of his hand, as if she got burnt. "Sorry, I didn't mean to." The man smirked, cold and mocking. "Don't be shy. I know you have been thinking this." "Shameless!" The woman said and pushed him aside. "Move away." The man frowned his lips and stood aside, letting her peep outside herself. Shortly after she managed to peek outside through the peephole, the woman's face reddened in panic and turned away. "My God, why is she here this early?" "Who?" "None of your business." Geneva moved away, making her way back inside her room. "Don't open the door. I'll go and get change. I'll be quick." "Don't tell me you want to make that person wait for so long?" The man smiled meaningfully and winked at her. "No way. I'll answer the door for you." "You dare?" The man shrugged and pouted, looking cute despite being cold. Under the woman's threatening glare, the man opened the door, only to find a woman inside, standing while carrying several things. "Who are you?" The visitor asked. Her sight passed through the man's shoulder and her eyes rounded in surprised to see Geneva inside. "And- and you? Why- why are you here?" Chen Lei and Geneva exchanged glances at each other. A frown creased on the man's forehead while Geneva was stunned, lost for words to say.
