Talon drove to pick up Maisy, and the family chose a decent barbecue restaurant, enjoying a lively meal together.
Watching the sauce smeared on Maisy's mouth, Talon carefully wiped it off with a napkin. 'Perhaps this is the taste of home.'
The barbecue restaurant was located in a shopping mall. After finishing their meal, it was just past eight in the evening, and Maisy insisted on shopping. Talon nodded in agreement. Watching Maisy pick out many toys in the toy store, Talon bought them without hesitation whenever she asked. Ariya felt a bit angry.
Ariya wore a stern face and said to Maisy, "Maisy, I'll tell you this is the last one. Buying toys is for you to play with them, but some toys are only played with once or twice and then ignored. If you were a toy, would you be happy? You already have piles of toys at home. Wait until you break those before buying more!"
Maisy blinked her eyes innocently and said, "Mom, but these are all bought by Dad! I told Dad not to buy them because you wouldn't let me, but Dad insisted on buying these toys. I think it's because he didn't have any when he was little, so he wants to make up for it. Dad, isn't that right?" Maisy said, turning to look at Talon and even giving him a wink.
"Yes, Maisy can buy whatever she wants. How about this electric car?" Talon completely ignored Ariya's words and picked up an electric car.
"No buying!" Ariya exclaimed, her forehead twitching in anger as she glared at Talon.
"This kid is so young; how can she play with so many toys? Look, there are already twenty here. You're just spoiling Maisy. I want to see how you handle her when she's spoiled. Maisy, no buying, absolutely not!"
"But Dad wants to play! I picked some for him; it's Dad who wants to play!" Maisy, feeling wronged, clung to Talon and said to Ariya.
"You!" Ariya was furious, knowing it was Maisy who wanted to play and dragging Talon into it.
Talon placed the electric car in the shopping cart, crouched down, and whispered, "Okay, we won't buy it. This is the last one. Maisy, since Mom is here today, we'll only buy these toys. The next time she doesn't come with us, Dad will buy you many, okay?"
Maisy pouted and turned away. "Oh, I really don't understand Mom. It's obviously Dad who wants to play. From now on, I will only love Dad and never love Mom again!"
"As if I need your love, you little troublemaker!" Ariya scratched her head repeatedly, feeling both amused and annoyed.
Talon picked up Maisy and cheerfully said, "Maisy, how can you say you don't love Mom? If there's no Mom, where do you come from? Don't be upset; Dad will buy you ice cream, okay?"
Maisy immediately beamed, hugging Talon's neck and kissing him. "Okay! I knew it; Dad loves me the most!"
"Keep spoiling her, huh? If you don't manage this little girl now, no one will be able to handle her when she grows up!" Ariya said angrily, picking up the bag and turning to leave.
The three of them arrived outside an ice cream shop. Maisy pointed at the items in the display case. "Dad, I want to eat this, this, and this! Oh my, that one looks great too! I want to eat that!"
"Eating so much will give you a tummy ache. Let's just have this one, alright?" Talon hugged Maisy and pointed to a bear-shaped ice cream, smiling.
"Dad, you said if you don't buy toys, you'll buy me ice cream. I want to eat three, three, okay?" Maisy held up three fingers, looking pitifully at Talon.
Ariya frowned and said, "No, you can only eat one! I've told you to eat more during meals and to eat less ice cream and snacks. Talon, if you buy her anything, I will not spare you!"
"Hmph! I'm talking to Dad, not you!" Maisy shook her little head, crossing her arms and turning away from Ariya.
"Alright, alright, like this. We won't eat one, and we won't eat three, but two, okay?" Talon, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the mother-daughter duo, tentatively held up two fingers.
Maisy looked longingly at the ice cream and reluctantly said, "Then… okay. Sorry, little snake, I can only eat you next time. This time, I want to eat the bear and the deer…"
Talon took out money and bought the bear and deer ice creams. Maisy was instantly delighted, holding one in each hand and happily eating. "Wow, Dad, try it, but just a little bit. Wow, how is it? Is it good? I love the bear and deer ice creams the most!"
Ariya rubbed her forehead and stood up. "Oh, I'm going to die from you two. You can eat here; I'm going to Mr. Rick's to exchange for a cake. I happen to have a coupon for Mr. Rick; I can exchange it for nine dollars and ninety cents. If I don't exchange it soon, it will expire."
"Dad, I need to pee." While holding her ice cream, Maisy said as she ate.
"Then hurry up, you little foodie." Talon asked the staff in the hall, only to find out there was a public restroom outside the mall. He quickly picked up Maisy and rushed out.
"Dad, this is the men's restroom! I want to go to the women's restroom!" Maisy, seeing Talon carry her towards the men's restroom, reluctantly said.
"Dad can't go into the women's restroom; you'll have to endure a bit, okay?" Talon was completely at the mercy of this little pest.
"But Mom always takes me into the women's restroom. Why can't you?" Maisy looked at Talon with curiosity.
Talon thought about it and realized there was really no way to explain. "That's right; your mom is a girl, and I'm a boy. We can't go into the women's restroom. You can try to pee faster."
Maisy pouted, grumbling. "Ugh, fine. Why can't Dad go into the women's restroom? It's so annoying…"
Talon quickly found a spot for Maisy to relieve herself, but just as she finished, a loud explosion suddenly echoed in his ears. The wind knocked him off balance, and instinctively, he wrapped his arms around Maisy.
The ground shook violently, and even the restroom partitions were blown away. Despite Talon's extensive experience, he was stunned for a few seconds before reacting. He looked up and saw that the mall had gone completely dark, with flames raging fiercely, and the sound of explosions coming from the mall.
"Ariya!" Talon's mind went blank as he picked up Maisy and rushed toward the fire.
