Watching Talon's figure disappear, Ariya held Maisy tightly. Tears streamed down her face, but she also felt an immense pride. 'Those who once mocked Talon, called him worthless, or doubted him—can you see now? My man is a hero, a true hero who stands tall.'
"Mommy, why is Daddy going back in? You've already come out, right? Will Daddy come back this time?" Maisy asked Ariya with confusion.
Ariya stood up, gritting her teeth, and said, "Maisy, watch closely, watch your daddy. Your daddy is a hero of this nation, a protector of ordinary people. There are still people he can't abandon in there, so he must go. As his family, all we can do is wait here for him. He will come back!"
"Yeah! Daddy's amazing! When I grow up, I want to be just like him!" Maisy clenched her tiny fists and vowed with determination.
But Talon didn't know any of this. He charged into the fire, following his memory to the burning clothing store. And just as he expected, the store was engulfed in flames. The raging fire was devouring the clothes and burning through the mannequins.
"Is anyone in here? Is anyone there?" Talon shouted loudly.
"Daddy, is that you? Daddy…" Finally, from a corner of the store came a weak voice in response.
Talon didn't care about the intensity of the fire. He braved it, rushing in and pushing aside the fallen mannequins. Finally, he found a child staring at him with a look of desperation. But the boy's enthusiasm turned to disappointment when he saw Talon. "You're not my dad…" And with that, the boy passed out.
"Hey, don't fall asleep, or you might never wake up again. I'll take you to find your parents!" Talon rushed to the boy's side and checked his breathing. He was still alive.
Without a second thought, Talon took off his gas mask and put it on the boy. He lifted him in his arms, but just as he was about to head back the way he came, several burning mannequins collapsed. Everywhere Talon looked, there was fire. It seemed impossible to find a way out.
Talon forced his way through the flames to the far corner of the store, the only area with slightly smaller flames, and he could see outside from there. Firefighters, using a ladder, spotted Talon and sprayed water toward him, desperately trying to give him a chance of survival.
Everyone below was looking up at Talon, crossing their hands over their chests. They all hoped that Talon and the boy would make it out safely. The boy's mother, bowing with his father, could only pray to the heavens for their safe return.
Everyone saw the determined look flash across Talon's eyes, and then someone gasped. A wave of gasps followed. Talon, holding the boy just like when he saved Ariya, jumped from the window, with his back facing the ground.
Ariya's heart clenched tightly. 'Oh God, Talon has injuries on his back!'
But there was no time to think. Talon hit the ground hard, but the boy in his arms was unharmed.
"Talon, Talon! Are you okay? Please don't scare me!" Ariya was the first to reach him, tears streaming down her face. Talon didn't even have the strength to speak. He just raised his hand slightly, signaling that he was okay.
"Denny, Denny! You scared me to death!" The boy's mother ran to him. The boy had woken up, looking around in confusion.
"Mom… this man saved me…" The seven-year-old boy understood what had happened.
The boy's father rushed forward, saying, "Doctor! Quick, save this man! No matter the cost, we're willing to pay whatever it takes. Please, save him. Sir, thank you for your great kindness. Please, you have to be okay!"
"I'm fine, I just need some rest." Talon smiled faintly at the man's tears. Inside, he felt a sense of happiness. As long as he could save that boy, he knew he was worthy of wearing the uniform.
The fire chief hurried over, filled with admiration. "Sir, you are truly a role model. You accomplished the impossible. I promise to train hard so that when our country is in danger, we'll be the first to rush in. On behalf of myself and the entire fire department, I salute you!"
The fire chief saluted Talon respectfully. What Talon did today had shaken him deeply. If an ordinary person could charge into a burning building to save someone, how could they not? Saying the fire was too big was just an excuse. Protecting the lives and property of the people was their highest duty.
The fire chief shouted, "All firefighters, listen up! The fire is an order! This phrase shouldn't just be words. The time has come for us to act when the people need us. Don't say the fire is too big to go in. Look at how he did it! Everyone, follow me!"
