Chapter 92

997 Words
"Let's do it another day. I need to head home," Alvin said, unable to go against his father's wishes, and he got up to leave. "Of course, Deputy Mayor. There will be plenty of opportunities later," Johnny replied with a forced smile. Alvin drove toward the Willis family home, trying to call Ariya on the way. But she was likely busy entertaining the executives, and no one answered the phone. Alvin sighed. It seemed he'd have to face the Willis family on his own and hear what his father had to say. It was already after 8 p.m., and the Willis family's conference room was brightly lit, filled with the family's key members. But no one spoke. The atmosphere was tense and heavy. After returning from Ariya's, Lord Willis had told the family about what had happened. Initially, everyone had been thrilled to hear that Ariya had transferred Talon Group's shares to Lord Willis, seeing it as a huge opportunity for the family's growth. But when they learned that Ariya had pulled a clever trick and had ties to both the Gordon family of Pennsylvania and Skysoar Group, the family's excitement turned to outrage. They all cursed Ariya furiously, and in the end, they came up with a vicious plan. If Alvin didn't give them a satisfactory explanation, they would immediately put this plan into action, certain it would ruin Ariya's reputation. Alvin walked upstairs, carrying several boxes of tea. "What's the occasion? Everyone's here tonight! Dad, I picked up some premium tea from a tea house I passed on my way here. Let everyone have a taste," Alvin said, knowing his father wasn't in a good mood and trying to offer a gesture of goodwill. "The Willis family doesn't need tea from an outsider!" Lord Willis snapped coldly. Alvin forced a calm smile and sat beside his father. "Dad, what's that supposed to mean? I'm still your son, after all. I know why you called me here today, but you've got to see things from my perspective." Alvin patiently explained, "Look, Ralphy and Nia's investment in the Skinthall Residence project was clearly because of Ariya. If I'd said something at the time, our investment would have fallen through." Jensen chimed in, "Uncle, you say you're working for the good of the country, but have you thought about the Willis family? Do you even know what kind of situation we're in? We're on the verge of bankruptcy! If we don't get Arilon Group, there won't be a Willis family anymore! And it's all your fault, and Ariya's!" "Jensen, I'm speaking with your grandfather. It's not your turn to talk. If you want to talk, fine, let's talk! I think Ariya was right. Why did you throw her out of the Willis family in the first place?" Alvin yelled. "Now you want to take over Arilon Group? You're no different from a bunch of thieves. And it's not like Ariya refused to hand over the shares. You just couldn't handle it. You were too afraid! How is that Ariya's fault?" Angered by Jensen's accusations, Alvin snapped back. He worried about clashing with Mateo, but he wasn't afraid of Jensen. After all, a younger relative had no business lecturing his elders. Lord Willis finally lost his temper, slamming his teacup down with a loud crash. "What are you implying? I was the one who decided to kick Ariya out. Are you blaming me now? Ungrateful son, you can't even tell right from wrong! Now that you're the deputy mayor, you think you can look down on the Willis family. Just remember, I will make sure you pay for this!" "Dad, please, let me explain. That's not what I meant. I just wanted to say that it hasn't been easy for Ariya to get where she is today. You see..." Alvin, realizing he might have spoken out of turn in his anger, tried to smooth things over. "Enough! Put the plan into action immediately! The sooner, the better—tonight, if possible! Jensen, show him out!" Lord Willis's eyes gleamed with malice. Jensen stood up, gesturing toward the door. "Please, Uncle. The Willis family can't afford to entertain a big shot like the deputy mayor. We'll see who ends up humiliated in the end!" Alvin saw that his father wasn't even looking at him. He shook his head slightly. 'Being the son of the Willis family is truly a thankless job.' Alvin turned and left, while Jensen wasted no time heading into an empty room. Opening his computer, a cruel smile spread across his face. "Ariya, you showed no mercy, so don't blame me for doing the same! Once I edit these photos and hand them over to the Norman family in Philadelphia... By tomorrow, I'll have you ruined! But I need to cook up a story to go with them..." As he spoke, Jensen opened a folder of images on his computer. These were explicit photos he had collected from various adult websites, featuring women whose backs bore a slight resemblance to Ariya. He selected a few, then opened a photo from a family gathering where Ariya was present. He clumsily swapped her face onto one of the women in the explicit photos. Though the editing was sloppy, Jensen didn't care—he knew the average internet user wouldn't be smart enough to notice. With the images chosen, Jensen sat down to write a post. He titled it: [A Confession: My Affairs with Several Men While My Husband Was Away.] In the post, he described how Ariya had taken up with multiple men while Talon was away, and now that her husband had returned, she was ready to move on from her past. He finished the post with: [Now that my husband is back, it's time to say goodbye to the men I've slept with and to those hotel rendezvous. From now on, I'll be a devoted wife and mother, and I'll never go looking for other men again.]
