Chapter Five

1025 Words
I was dead. My body just wasn’t working and if Dakota thought her mummy was going to get up and keep her entertained then she had another thing coming. I felt extremely guilty for ignoring my baby girl but I was also extremely exhausted from too much alcohol, s*x, and not enough sleep… At the end, my husband had gotten his revenge and then some. “Mummy, wake up!” the little monster pulled at my tangled hair to try and get me to wake up but all it did was cause my head to rise slightly off the pillow before dropping back down again. “I think mummy’s sleepy, baby,” Daniel’s grin could be heard in his tone of voice and if I had any life left in me then I would raise both my middle fingers up at him but all I managed was an aggravated grunt. “Yep,” Daniel laughed. “Mummy’s very very sleepy…” “But it’s not bedtime!” Dakota’s pout was evident and I breathed a sigh of relief when I felt her tiny but heavy body being lifted off my sore back and presumably into Daniel’s arms. “Mummy had a late night. We went out with uncle Alex and Gale so she has a lot of sleep to catch up on,” Daniel tried reasoning their stubborn daughter. “And stamina…” Alex’s voice added. “Oh, shut it, Alex… Go die,” I mumbled into the pillow as I buried my face underneath it. “Oh, I love you too, Jia.” A much heavier weight jumped onto me and I didn’t even have the energy to wince. Alex was a heavy bastard and clearly enjoying my pliant state. “She’s much more fun like this. Less talking.” “I will hurt you, Alex. I’m not joking,” I didn’t even understand my own words so I wasn’t shocked when Alex blatantly ignored me but then again that could have just been Alex being an ass. “Come on, Jia, the sun is shining!” Alex slapped my ass as he leapt off my back and dodged the arm I swung out blindly at him. Mornings and Alex just wasn’t a good combination. The shrill ringing of my cell phone caught my attention. There was only one person I was expecting to call and I breathed a sigh of relief when my sister’s name flashed up on the screen. I rolled onto my back (with great effort) and reached for the phone, resting it against my ear to avoid actually holding it. “Jia?” My sister’s voice was calm and it eased the worry inside of me straight away. “Hey…” I rubbed at my sleepy eyes and fought against a yawn while my sister filled me in on how the pack were doing. The cougars had shown up but seeing as nobody knew where any of their pack mates had gone they left pretty quickly. Lane and Shawn were the only two who had known they had disappeared to seek safety but Alex and Roseanne had done well in keeping it secret from them. For now, they were safe and hidden in the human world. It was away from their pack but it was bearable. “Me and Luke are in the s**t for helping you escape so we’re a little on the run right now too,” Isabella admitted rather nervously once she had confirmed everyone’s safety. “What?! Where are you? Come to us!” I offered, worried about my brother and sister being on the run with only the two of them. “Nuh-uh, Jia. I won’t say where we are and you won’t say where you are. If we don’t know then we’re safe,” she seemed sad but then I couldn’t blame her. The whole situation was a pain in the ass. “Are you okay? You sound bad.” “Yeah, I’m fine. Just had a late night out with the guys last night and I got a persistent three year old and Dakota trying to wake me up,” I dodged the pillow Alex threw at me expertly for the comment and my grin was cut short as a sharp pain stabbed at my head. Stupid hangover. “You’re running for your life and so you had a pack night out?” Isabella was clearly annoyed at the revelation but I wasn’t about to sit inside and wait to be discovered. What’s the point in being alive when you can’t live? “The kids were with Roseanne and we were together. We were safe, sister,” I was older than Isabella and yet I was the one putting on the pissed younger sibling act. “You better keep your ass safe too, okay?” she told me sternly. “I’ll keep in touch.” “How? You told me to ditch my cell.” “I have a website. Maybe you should check it out sometime,” she gave me time to write down the address and told me to watch out for blog posts that may or may not help me. My sister really sucked at being secretive but it felt nice to know that she would keep in touch one way or another. “I’ll see you soon.” I promised as we said our goodbyes. “Sooner than you think.” I smiled softly to my phone as I disconnected the call before sitting up slightly and throwing it as hard as I could at the opposite wall, smashing the phone and leaving a sizeable dent behind. If I had to destroy it then I could at least enjoy doing so. “s**t!” My mate jumped at the loud noise it made before narrowing his eyes at me. “Ass.” “You’re the pain in the ass.” I replied, wincing at said pain as I got comfortable once more. Right after I closed my eyes though, I could hear the sound of glass breaking followed by Alec's screaming and Grace’s shrieking. So much for getting comfortable...
