Outside, the cold air wrapped around us the moment I stepped out of the building with her thrown over my shoulder. She was still breathing sharply, her heartbeat fast enough to pound through my skin. I didn’t say a word as a black SUV rolled to a stop in front of us, the headlights sweeping across the half-constructed walls.
