Sage I didn’t sleep at the estate that night. Father insisted. He said the roads were too dangerous after the rogue attack and that I needed rest before the hunt intensified. I knew it was an excuse to keep me close, to continue the conversation tomorrow when his “visit” to Eve would happen. I stayed in the guest wing, staring at the ceiling until dawn, the wolf pacing restlessly inside me. Food was brought—trays of steak, roasted vegetables, the kind of meal meant to fuel an Alpha after battle. I sent it away untouched. “Not hungry,” I told the staff. Hunger wasn’t the problem.
