Sage I drew a slow breath, the words heavy on my tongue. Eve’s eyes were fixed on me, wide and trusting, waiting for whatever bomb I was about to drop. Before I could force it out, the door swung open. Alex strode in, still in the same clothes from last night, looking like he hadn’t slept either. His gaze swept over me, assessing, then softened when it landed on Eve. “How’s the alpha doing?” he asked, voice lighter than I knew he felt. “I’m fine,” I said, the words automatic. My side still ached, but the worst of the healing had already knit muscle and skin.
