Chapter 6

"We didn't come here for you to slut it up, Erik," Lexi says, throwing my pants at me. "We came here to work." She hasn't stopped nagging at me ever since she caught Queen sneaking out of my room last night.           "A man's gotta eat," I shrugged, wiping my sleepy eyes.           "Well, man can't eat if man get's fired from his job," she retorted, and I give her an exasperated sigh.           "Where's Jeremi?" I asked.           "I don't know," she shrugs, and I start to get dressed.           "I need him."           "Why?"           "Because he doesn't yell at me like you do, that's why." At that, she rolled her eyes.           "Jeremi wants to be your friend, it's not my job to be your friend, it's my job to keep you safe."           "Will you please just find him for me, you're getting really annoying to be around." I stated, grabbing my badge and my gun, placing them around my waist. "I need him here, it's important. Plus, I need to get to the location where Dwade might be. Tell him to meet me there."           "When did you get so business savvy?" She asked, wide eyed.           "Yesterday," I answered simply, throwing on my leather jacket.             I was partnered up with Game. Of all people, Game. He could've gave me Maggie, I would have even been happy with Zeus! But no, I was paired with the biggest d**k in the force. "We're in the middle of the f*****g desert," he complains, spitting on the ground.           "It's probably something somewhere else," I respond nonchalantly, sitting on top of the car we drove here. Game was walking aimlessly about, and I couldn't really see what he was looking at because of his sun glasses.           The sun was blazing and I swear I could feel my blood starting to bake in my veins. If Ida known that it was going to be so damn hot here, I would have packed for summer. P.E.E.S.S really needs to start serving up the weather in each dimension.           I let out a much needed breath, peeling off my jacket. I flexed my muscles in a bored way, then peered out into the distance. There was nothing but desert, and even more desert for miles. "So we're just supposed to sit here and f*****g wait all day!" Game snaps, kicking the side of the car.           "That's the plan," I say with less expression than a brick, opening up the pack of complimentary peanuts I brought with me.           “I. f*****g. HATE. THIS. f*****g. JOB!" He retorts angrily, kicking the side of the car with every word.           "You want some peanuts?" I ask him, stretching the bag out towards him.           "No," he says quietly, snatching his glasses off of his face to reveal his sea green eyes. "No, I do not want any f*****g peanuts. I am standing here in the middle of no where, in some shitty 300 DEGREE WEATHER!" He shouts at me, throwing his glasses across the way.           "I hope you don't change your mind cause-" I emptied the rest of the small bag into my mouth, then balled it up. "It's certainly too late now."           "I hate you," he murmurs, getting back into the front seat of the car.           Not a beat later, a car pulled up just behind ours, and I hopped off of the trunk because I already knew who it was. "You sure took your sweet time," I stated, walking up to the passenger side and getting in.           "Why am I here?" He asked impatiently, slicking his jet black hair to the back. "Aren't you working?"           "Yeah," I sighed, peering out of the window. "I have to ask you something."           "What? You dragged me all the way out here to ask me something." He stared at me like I'd grown a few heads, and I nodded. "Couldn't you have just called?"           "Phones don't work - listen," I started, "I just kept seeing this girl-" He cut me off with a scoff.           "Erik! Really?"           "Will you let me finish?" I asked him, getting a little annoyed.           "I kept seeing her... In my house, and in my bed. But I didn't know her, not until yesterday that is. And I was just wondering, how that could be?" I raised a questioning brow at him, and he heaved a heavy sigh. "I saw her before I even met her," I tried to explain better.           "I don't know, Erik," he shrugged. "I've never heard of that one before. Maybe, you'd seen her before in a different dimension. Maybe, your mind was just projecting her from a further memory and it got mixed up in your head or something."           "Really?" I asked him, and he nodded.            "Yeah, it's like when you dream of someone you've never met. Which in fact, isn't really the case. The human mind isn't capable of making up faces. So when you dream of someone you don't know it's because your subconscious stored the memory of them. Like someone you met when you were a child, or someone you walked passed on the street. Same thing, Erik." He explained.           "What does that mean?" I asked him, honestly curious.           "I'll let you know when I find out," he says, giving me a sloppy, sideways grin.
