Alessio’s POV
“I have sent you the address of my location. It may take a while before you locate it.” Doctor Andrea and I interchange between speaking Italian and English anytime we converse. It just depends on what language we are in the mood to speak. It is entirely different this time around, though. I’m speaking to him in English this time around because Aida is still gripping tightly onto my left leg and I do not want her to have any idea about anything that is going on.
I’m still thinking about how to get her hands off my leg and it seems like scaring her with a gun is the only way she’ll let go of me. I wouldn’t kill her, no, but I’m hoping that once I flash my gun in her face, fear would latch onto her heart so tightly and she’ll have no other choice but to flee very far away from me.
“I’ll check it then and be sure to communicate with you and inform you about any new developments.” He says before ending the call.
I hope there isn’t any new development that will hinder him from arriving here.
I decide to send him a text, telling him what he should and shouldn’t do when he arrives. It’ll take a little more time before he gets down here, anyway.
Alessio : Once you arrive, be sure to speak English at all times. No Italian.
The message is simple and short and very precise. After reading it over and over and making sure that even someone with worse understanding than a layman would understand it. I hit send and put my phone back in my pocket.
From my vantage point, I can get a good view of the lazy happenings on the street in one of the most rural parts of Milan. To be honest, nothing much is going on on the streets and I’m quite thankful for that. It gives me the opportunity and ability to sit and think things through without having to worry about any form of noise. It isn’t as though I haven’t got so much on my plate and to be quite honest, I’ve blatantly ignored all that needs my attention over the last month. It isn’t as though I will never get to them .It’s just some major things right now that I have to attend to–her being the first one on the list.
I dip my hand into the pocket of my trousers and fish out a lighter and a pack of cigarettes. If Aida weren’t holding on to my legs right now, I’d walk to the front of the house and open the door of my car to smoke peacefully.
It’s like I know what to do to get her to leave me alone, but I doubt she’d budge when I do it, anyway. Once the bottom of my cigarette has been lit, I put the top of the cigarette in my mouth, suck my cheeks in and inhale before blowing the smoke in her direction. I do that so many times and she starts to cough but she doesn’t let go of me. She obviously is firm about not telling me to go till I accept her apology. Does she really think that things as serious as this are treated this way? You just come, give some sort of f****d up apology and everything becomes normal like is was before? She must have taken some kind of cannabis made in a different part of the world to think like that. I like her faith.
It’s been some time and three cigarettes have gone, their bottoms at my feet, crushed mercilessly since they are of no use to me anymore.
I inhale and exhale, everything smells like smoke. My phone rings again, but I don’t bother picking. All I want is for him to get here so he can attend to her.
I’m deep in thoughts when I see him standing in front of me with a briefcase that I guess has the things I told him to bring.
“Ah, boss, I have tried calling you, but you haven’t been picking.” I do not say anything to him in response to that. He seems somewhat taken aback by the sight in front of him–Aida still gripping onto my leg like her life depends on it. I’d really like to pull the leg of that part of the trousers up to take a look at my leg. I wonder what it’ll look like–probably red from the way she’s gripping tight.
“Wow,” He comments and I nod.
I pull my gun out from the holster and bend down a little, making sure that I touch Aida’s face with the gun. She shakes in fear as she sees it and that does the trick. She lets go of me instantly and I take that as my cue. Swiftly, I invite Doctor Andrea into the house, locking the doors as fast as I can. She knows not to bang, anyway.
He looks at me, waiting for some sort of explanation to what just happened, but I don’t owe him any. I walk further into the living room and he follows my lead. I really need something to drink, and so I walk into the kitchen, highly doubting that I’ll find something that I really like. The last time I was here, the occurrences are really not something I’m happy to recall.
Oh, great, from my peripheral view, I spot a non-alcoholic fruit wine at the edge of the counter. What am I going to do with this?
At least it’s better than nothing. I’m assuming Doctor Andrea has already seen her. He most likely is taking a look at what’s going on. It really is complicated, I know.
“Gesù Cristo!” He exclaims and my blood boils in my veins immediately. I can remember vividly texting him that during this period, only English language is allowed. The patient in question doesn’t even f*****g speak or understand Italian.
Translation- Jesus Christ!
I shouldn’t really get mad at him since he’s probably expressing his shock at what is in front of him. He has most likely lifted her clothes up to take a look at parts of her body.
“Doc, I thought we agreed that no Italian.” I yell from the kitchen, still inspecting the bottle of fruit wine.
“I’m sorry, I really am just expressing shock and concern. Capo, we’ve got a lot going on here.” He tells me.
“ Yes, I know. That is why I called you. I can’t deal with any of this.”
Shrugging, I take the bottle of wine and go back to the living room. By the time I get there, he has raised the top she’s wearing up so that her abdominal region is out. From what I can see, black marks are all over the place. They must’ve manhandled her there. Anger crawls up my spine and I try to push the thought aside because I’ll only end up doing something I regret. I have to be calm and trust the process.
I walk over to where he is by the couch where she occupies, wine bottle still in my hand. If I decide to drink this, I better keep it for when things are out of control. I cannot even remember the last time I had fruit wine.
“So tell me, what do we have here?” I ask, not knowing the name to call the injuries. I’d just refer to them as marks.
“It shouldn’t be shocking that this patient was manhandled. We’ve got a little bit of a mixture of first and second degree burns on the abdomen. I’d like to roll her over and take a look at her back. I can see a hint of a cane mark from the side of her abdomen and it disappears once it gets to the back. Her face is marked and so obviously, she got slapped multiple times across the face. Capo, that’s just the physical examination, we’d like to run some tests on her to see what is going on in her body. I suspect a case of r**e here and so, if you do not mind, I’d like for her to take SANE.” He says, and that last acronym has me confused.
“I understand what you just said, but that last acronym, though.”
“Yes, it’s an examination for people we feel have been sexually assaulted and need to take a test.” He tells me and I hope with everything that is in me that it’s not the situation in this case.
I stay quiet for a little bit, looking around and just thinking.
“Look, Capo, I never expected for the case to be this bad. We need to get her cleaned up so that we can begin immediate treatments and run the tests.”
He’s saying what he thinks, all the while my mind is travelling at an insane speed, thinking, just thinking about how and why anyone would touch her. This is crazy.
“Capo,” It’s when Doctor Andrea taps me that I realise I’ve been in a haze.
“Just do whatever needs to be done so that she’ll be okay.” I tell him.
“The problem here is that I need my whole medical team around. I never knew it was this bad. The attention she needs has to come from various fields.” He says.
“So what do we have to do?”
“I’ll call in my medical team and request for them to fly in immediately. It’ll take a few hours, but I really do not want to administer any treatments in the condition that she currently is in.”
