Elayne’s POV
I am the type of woman to hear something shocking and get tired all of a sudden. Sleeping sort of eases out the pain for a little bit. Now, I’m not saying it drives it away, I’m saying that by the time you're sleeping, there will be nothing to think about.
It is happening to me now. The moment he said the journey with him only just started, sleep sort of reared its head my way and all I want to do right now is to stretch my body all over the couch and fall into a deep sleep that I don't want to be woken from. I don't want to think about my future right now. All of the plans I made before coming to Italy. Might as well kiss your life goodbye and welcome yourself to living his life. God in heaven knows that this is the last thing I want to think about.
I don't even have my anime here to watch with me. Oh Lord, how I've missed it. There are times in life when you think you can never do without a particular thing and that your life is nothing without it. That has been how I felt about anime for the longest, but I've lived without it for about four months. It really is insane. The thing is that I can't wait to watch it again. It brings some sort of peace and serenity to my life. I don't know, the general public look at people who watch anime as crazy because they are always like 'what do you see in it?', but let me start by saying that it has always been an outlet for me. Since I was a young child. Growing up in an abusive home, it was what drove my mind away from constantly thinking. So, instead of thinking about the hurtful things that were done to my mother, I got to imagine myself with those hot male anime characters.
Anyway, all I can say is that in this life that I'm currently living, I'm doomed.
I can feel his watchful eyes on me as I try to find sleep, but I actually don't care. I might as well stop giving a s**t since I'm going to be tied to this man for the rest of my life. I have to force myself to start liking his world. To fake being interested in the things of his world. How long am I going to keep acting like I am? Anyway, what I've been craving so badly knocks on my door, sleep. I'll be damned if I do not welcome it with open arms.
Alessio’s POV
Her reaction was priceless. As though she was told that she had a terminal illness and had less than a month to live. I'm not going to deny the fact that watching her react made me want to spit out my tea and laugh my brains out. It’s one of the times when I wish life had a button where you could replay silly things you found difficult to get out of your head.
She’s sleeping as we speak and as much as I want to sit there and watch her sleep for as long as she does, I have to get up and plan what is going to happen during the next couple of months–technically, the new year. There is no denying of the fact that during the last few months of the year, I lost grip on the things that on a normal day meant nothing to me.
The coming year is going to be different. For the remaining parts of the year, I’m life’s b***h, but I’ll try to make life my b***h next year. I still do not know what to do with her, and it’s been four months since she was caught, but it’s a work in progress.
Elayne’s POV
My eyelids flutter open as I feel someone tapping my arm. It isn’t him and that sort of bores the s**t out of me since I want to go back to sleep. I’m not saying he is in any type of way a vibe, but since he’s been the only one I’ve been constantly seeing for a while, it sort of makes me roll my eyes when any other person passes by. I’m also admitting that I’ve been living in a cage for a while. Yes, I’m not home anymore and I doubt I’d ever return home. Might as well start calling this my new home. I’m ready for whatever adventure we’re embarking on. He should bring it on.
I catch a glimpse of him, but he doesn’t seem to be coming my way. He looks like someone who has been working for so long.
“Where are we?” I quiz, making sure my voice is loud enough for him to hear.
“It doesn’t matter.” I’m very shocked since I thought he wasn’t going to respond to me.
I follow them down the airstair, Alessio leading the way as always.
We definitely have left Italy, but the son of a b***h wouldn’t tell me where we are. There isn’t a flag in sight–well, it isn’t as though I can tell all of the countries just by looking at their flag, but I know we are still in Europe and so, that might not be so tasking for me.
We walk for a very long time. I’m not even exaggerating here. I’m sure we’ve been moving for over ten minutes. For Alessio and his men, it seems like nothing, but it sure is a whole lot for me since it’s been a while since I visited the gym. That’s why I’ve made a vow to myself to just be me on thai ride and do the normal things I will do on a regular day. I’m tired of waiting for something to happen. Too bad it took too long for me to figure out that if I don’t do something, nothing will happen.
“Does the journey never end?” I ask and I could swear that I heard that asshole snicker. Why should I be shocked or pissed when he revels in other people’s discomfort. So much for being a leader.
“Lazy ass,” He yells, not even bothering to spare me a glance. This man definitely knows the buttons that get on my f*****g damn nerves, but I believe it’s too early to start calling names in this new country we just arrived in.
I don’t respond to him and I can tell that makes him pissed. It’s as though he’s trying to get on my nerves.
Finally we get into an estate and it doesn’t take that long for guards to open the gate. There are two large buildings in there and I can’t help but wonder what the f**k is actually going on.
Alessio walks in, followed by his men. I just stand outside the building, ogling at it as though it is the first time I have seen a building so large and beautiful–of course it isn’t. I do not just have the slightest idea about what has gotten into me.
One of his men tells him that I’ve stopped walking and he stops in his tracks before turning around. Of course, c**k suckers.
“See, there is no need for you to pause your walking anymore. We’ve gotten to our destination.” He tells me as though the two orbs inserted inside sockets on my face are not functioning anymore.
“Of course, I forgot I suddenly went blind.” I throw my hands in the air as I begin to walk. Alessio has turned his back. He’s probably asking himself why he spoke to me. Well, good for him.
There are so many gates in this building that I’ve lost count.
We get to the stairs and that is where the men who’ve been following him since we got off the plane stopped. So now, it’s his back to me, albeit, he’s twenty feet in front of me.
“Don’t be walking fast when you’re directing someone somewhere.” I roll my eyes and the only response I get is silence. Nice one.
“Do you have to act like a d**k all the time?” Silence.
God, I want to hurl myself at him and punch him till I can’t any more. This man gets me so vexed that I ask myself if it’s that bad. I bite the inner corners of my mouth and suck in the blood to suppress my anger.
As we progress, my nostrils can’t help but notice the delicious aroma wafting from downstairs.
“Is that food?” I know I promised not to speak to him again since he’s been ignoring me, but it’s food we’re talking about here.
“You’ll strip for food, won't you?” He turns his back and asks me and all I do in response to that is to roll my eyes. f**k this arrogant son of a b***h.
Before I know it, I double my steps. In fact, I run, following the direction in which the savour is exuding from.
As I move past him, he mumbles some words in Italian which unfortunately, I can’t hear s**t.
I finally find where it is coming from. It’s an extremely large kitchen where varieties of meals are being prepared. I really do not care what happens. You cannot hold me captive and expect me to remain still when I perceive the aroma of good food. It is not possible.
I run into the kitchen and the chefs can’t help but toss glances my way. It makes me feel as though I’m out of my mind, but I’d do anything for food.
I find a plate of sauce and deliciously baked bread on the island and I can’t help but reach for the bread. I dip it into the sauce and throw it in my mouth. Yes, I’m very much aware of the fact that I did not wash my hands before touching the food and I’m licking my fingers. Thank you very much. One of the chefs–I’m assuming it’s the one that prepared the meal, looks at me as though I stole his money.
“What is this called?” I know he’s very irritated by my behaviour. I actually don’t blame him because he has every right to. I still even have the nerve to ask for the name of the dish as though I’ll search the internet for the recipe.
“She’s very exhausting, I know. Don’t look at her that way, though. She’ll be your guest for a while.” Once those words make their way out of Alessio’s mouth, they all bow to me as though I’m royal.
“What the f**k is happening?” I ask, my eyeballs moving sideways like I just got caught stealing.
“You’ll be staying here for a while and I want you to get comfortable with the staff. That is what is happening.” He says. I use my tongue to wipe the sauce off of my teeth. This f*****g sauce is addictive.
“They are waiting for you to tell them to raise their heads up.”
Wow, this is all new to me.
“You can raise your heads up.” I say, using my hands to motion for them to lift their heads up. I don’t really care for any of this. It isn’t my cup of tea. What I really want to do right now is to taste all of the food that is being prepared, but I know that if I do that, I wouldn’t be as excited as I currently am.
“Are you done looking at the food because there are some things I’d like to discuss with you?” His voice cuts through my thoughts.
“What?” He says. It seems so peaceful here. I’m very certain that if we were in Italy, we’d have fought about five times only today, but so far, it’s just been a very chill and laid back day and I don’t even know if I like it.
He doesn’t respond to me, but he keeps moving forward which is his response. He’s telling me to follow him .I do.
I’m not even dragging it. This house is so big I can get lost and not a soul would notice on time.
The scanner scans his fingerprint and the door to the room opens. What the f**k is going on?
“What is happening?” I ask, not sure whether to enter the room or not.
“Get in. I’m not going to do what you are thinking.” He tells me. This man is getting very good at reading my mind.
“You’ll be here for a while and I’ll be gone. I don’t have any explanation to give.”
Honestly, I know not to argue. That wouldn’t stop me from asking for things.
“I don’t care for an explanation, but I do have a ton of requests to make.” I say.
“If it’s something I can grant you, why not.” He says.
“I need freedom here. Look I know you’re the leader of the mafia and all of that bullshit, but how long am I going to be trapped in your cage?”
“Go straight to the point.” He says.
“I need a phone and a laptop with unlimited access to the internet.” I say.
“That, I can’t grant.” With that, he walks away.
