Pearl's favorite boy group had just released a new music video. She can't' exactly hear and appreciate it at the moment since Vaeri's talking. And not wanting to spoil herself from the good stuff, Pearl saves it for later. She begins scrolling through her newsfeeds instead. What pops up on her screen doesn't exactly enlighten her that much.
“And that’s what brought me here.”
Vaeri had started ranting about the reason she was here. She's been stuffing pop corn in her mouth and even without soaring her a glance, Pearl is aware the popcorn's almost done. She's basically inhaling it like its hair. The show had long been forgotten and Pearl at the same time’s scrolling through her phone.
“No way.” She utters with zero enthusiasm. Zach on the other hand seems to be very invested. He’s leaning forward, elbows on his thighs and chin above his clasped hands.
“Yes, way. I mean who does he think he is? He may be my brother but that doesn’t give him the right to go through my stuff. My journal’s MY journal.”
“Maybe he just wants to know what you’ve been up to?” Pearl utters without sparing her a glance. "You've been busy with school anyway."
"Are you seriously taking my brother's side right now?"
"Hmm. No." Pearl doesn't sound too convincing.
The cupid widens his eyes at Pearl's answer. He slides his chin away from his concentrated knuckles and licks his lips.
“Give the girl some attention, will you.” Zach hissed with a glare. If he hadn't been told to intervene in human conversations in the first place, he would have already tossed a cushion Pearl's way. The latter had been ignoring her friend and he was starting to get annoyed by that fact.
“He could have asked me though.” Vaeri says in a mumble. she looks away in thought. “But he didn’t.”
"What's the point of him asking? It's not like you would have given him anyway." Pearl sets her phone aside and ruffles her hair slightly. Planting her palms on the couch, she pushes herself up and leaves for a moment.
“I’ll be right back. I have to use the bathroom.”
Zach finds himself following her too. Not because he wants to. It's just it has become a habit of his. A habit he can't quite control. And in the process of trailing behind her like a puppy, he's giving her a lecture. "I can't believe you. She literally came here to ask you to back her up but you're just ignoring her. If a friend came to me in that way I would have given them a hundred percent of my attention. What's wrong with you?"
She can't hear him. She won't know what he's going on about. But what's more confusing is how the situation's frustrating him. He's overstayed his visit. Stell isn't around, so why on earth is he still here? He doesn't know. He runs his fingers across his hair as Pearl closes the door to the bathroom.
The cupid leans against the wall, cheeks puffed in frustration. He has his arms crossed over his chest, waiting patiently. It doesn't take time before he hears the flush from the inside. Ten seconds pass by. Twenty seconds pass by. A minute.
The young cupid was starting to get weird things in his head. And oddly enough, he was starting to get worried for the more human.
Worried. That's a new feeling.
"What on earth are you doing in there?" He mumbles mostly to himself, pulling his body away from the wall to inspect. He could walk through it like a ghost but that would be invading her privacy. And besides, he doesn't want to see something he's not allowed to see. So he presses his ear against the door, making sure it doesn't go through completely.
He hears breathing, so that should be a good sign, right? He takes a step back when the knob rattles. Pearl eventually steps out and closes the door gently beside her. She then walks down the hallway, not going to the direction of the living room yet.
"I thought you died back there for a second... holy crap Zach. What the heck is wrong with you? She can't even hear you." He slaps himself across the face. Pearl makes a quick stop inside the kitchen, grabbing a bunch of snack bags.
"Don't tell me you're gonna start binging on those unhealthy snacks." A bitter expression contours his face. Zach had his eyes squinted with his lips curled sourly. He's never seen anyone eat that much junk food in his life before.
As he says that, pearl pulls out two containers of chocolate ice cream from the fridge. At least one of them was chocolate. The other one was mint flavored.
"That's disgusting."
Cupids- although similar to ghosts - are still able to feel and taste things. But it's not something that can be attained easily. They can move objects, yes. They can also taste things but they have to be driven by some kind of will or want in order to attain such a level of contact. It can take their energy away at times. It's hard to explain it and why they're made like that, but that's just how they work. No cupid has yet to ever come in contact with a human though. It's almost a rare occurrence. Pearl grabs the containers and places them on the counter in the mean time. She pats her pockets only to let out an annoyed grit. "Where the heck did I put my phone?"
Zack walks over to the counter and rests his palms on the edge, inspecting the two ice creams. "You left it in the living room." He answers. "You're not even old yet."
When he looks up, he could have sworn Pearl had just glared at him with so much hatred before aggressively taking her things to the living.
