Chapter 18 – The Alpha Feels the Bond

233 Words
Miles away in Shadowfang territory, Alpha Kael Blackthorn suddenly froze mid-step. A sharp, searing pain tore through his chest. He dropped to one knee, gripping his shirt as the sensation intensified. It wasn’t the dull echo of the broken bond he had felt before. This was different. Stronger. Urgent. Alive. “What is this…” he muttered under his breath. The connection to Ava surged violently, flooding his senses with something he couldn’t ignore. Fear. Not his own. Hers. Kael’s head snapped up, his breathing uneven. “She’s in danger.” His beta, who had been walking beside him, stopped in confusion. “Alpha, what are you talking about?” Kael stood abruptly, already turning toward the northern forest. “The bond didn’t break,” he said, more to himself than anyone else. “It changed.” The realization struck him hard. He hadn’t severed the connection. He had only pushed it into something deeper… something he didn’t understand. And now, it was pulling him back to her. Without hesitation, Kael began moving. Faster. Each step felt guided by something beyond instinct. Behind him, his beta called out, but Kael didn’t stop. For the first time since the ceremony, he wasn’t thinking like an Alpha. He was acting like a mate. And something inside him knew one truth with absolute certainty. If he didn’t reach Ava in time… He might lose her forever.
