Ava followed Lycan King Darius deeper into the forest clearing. The morning mist hung low among the ancient trees, glowing faintly under the silver light of the fading moon.
“You said I’m the Moonborn,” Ava said cautiously. “But I don’t know how to control any of this.”
Darius stopped and turned toward her. His golden eyes studied her carefully.
“That is why I’m here.”
Ava crossed her arms.
“I never asked for any of this.”
“Power rarely asks permission,” he replied calmly.
He stepped back and gestured toward the clearing.
“Show me what you can do.”
Ava frowned.
“I just told you I don’t know how.”
Darius suddenly lunged forward.
Instinct took over.
Ava threw up her hand.
Silver light exploded from her palm.
The energy slammed into Darius, forcing him back several feet before he stopped himself.
Silence filled the clearing.
Ava stared at her glowing hand in shock.
“I… didn’t mean to do that.”
Darius straightened slowly, an impressed smile forming on his face.
“You didn’t mean to,” he repeated. “And yet you pushed back the strongest Lycan alive.”
Ava’s stomach dropped.
“That’s impossible.”
Darius shook his head.
“No, Ava.”
His voice turned serious.
“It means your power has already begun to awaken.”
